ACCESSING THE BASE - Called Security Forces before arrival at Tye Gate and still ended up waiting a good 30 minutes before anyone showed up. We exited I-20 east bound at the Tye exit (277) and easy enough to find the Tye Gate. We called for access before 6pm, turns out shift change is at 6pm and day shift didn’t pass info along to night shift that we were waiting at gate. Had to call a 2nd time and then got a result. At first they questioned if we couldn’t come in thru the Arnold Gate (main gate). Told them that is site and fampcamp office said big rigs should come through this gate plus we were at the gate and really didn’t want to find way to Arnold Gate. The two SF airmen that arrived were friendly. They wanted to do a full check of the RV, so opened all cabinets and basement storage for them. We haven’t done that in a long time. They were pleasant enough and we enjoyed talking with them. We exited the base via the Arnold Gate and mostly a straight shot out. Entering the base via the Arnold Gate might be dicey for a big rig, if coming from west would definitely opt for the Tye Gate. FAMPCAMP – The famcamp was easy enough to find and our site was easy access, pull-thru but a little short to keep the toad attached. Nicely laid out famcamp with some empties the night we stayed. Talked to two other campers about wi-fi access and neither had info about connecting. So not sure if it was available. Bathroom and wash facility was very nice and clean. Yes it is pricey but would stay again if back this way. Gassed up at Exchange pumps, open 24 hrs.
