Great location to explore the area including the Badlands, Mt Rushmore, Black Hills and Devils Tower. It's a bomber base with all the facilities you'd expect such as a large commissary, BX, gym, auto hobby and craft shops. Entry into the base is a bit odd, as there's no direct road from an interstate exit. You'll come off the interstate either east or west of the gates (Liberty - Main gate, Patriot - School gate, and Bismarck - Commercial gate). The Famcamp is just inside the Patriot gate, but this gate has limited hours - basically weekday mornings and afternoons. Biggest issue entering at Liberty or Bismarck gates and getting to the Famcamp is the total lack of any signage directing you there. Watch for signs to the CDC as it's right across the street. If you're staying in the new section turn in at the "Rec / Housing office" sign. If in the old, it might be better to proceed to your site than walk back to the office. As for the office, it has very limited hours and was closed when we arrived. Packet of check-in info was in the atrium. Famcamp itself appears to be comprised of an older area of pull through spots on gravel roads and pads. There's a dry camp "overflow" area, but you're only supposed to use it if no FHU sites are available. Newer part of the camp is three circular drives with back in "spokes" off each circle. All paved and the spoke arrangement gives you privacy from the adjoining sites. One bath/laundry building (in the newer part) that was kept clean and stocked. Free washers and dryers are very nice. At $54 a night in peak season of 1 May to 31 Oct is one of the highest prices we've encountered at Famcamps. WiFi was intermittent, fine on day then slow as dial-up the next.
