Very impressed. Great, helpful staff even before my arrival. I had to change plans and they were very accommodating. Mostly new base with rebuilding after Katrina and movement of functions from the old base to the new. The park is well laid out and has all that you need. Mostly back-ins, a couple of pull throughs, but no problem getting in and out of the sites. A bit of a distance to New Orleans (about 20 miles), but we preferred to take the Algiers ferry across and use the all-day bus pass ($3) to get around on the streetcars. Just make sure to check the times of the ferry before you go. There is a back gate to the base that cuts off several miles of traffic, however I could never figure out when it was opened or closed so we usually didn't take the chance to try and use it. The one thing that I was most impressed with was the staff's desire to do the best--sometimes you don't see that anymore and they should get credit for doing a great job with a good attitude.
