This FAMCAMP is a mixed bag. Here are the details from our visit. 1. You need a reservation to stay in a full hook-up site. I tried to do an online reservation online, it looked like I could, but I got an email that I had to call during their business hours M,T,Th,F. 2. If you don't have a reservation, you can stay in the graveled overflow area with no hookups. It's big and can hold a lot of campers. You deposit your check at the kiosk by the shower/laundry building. 3. They have a dump and water fill by the overflow area. The other sites are FHU. 4. Sites 1-5 are for temporary visitors. That's where we stayed. 5. When I called and said our total length with truck and camper was 45', they said we'd have to park our truck in overflow or at the bathhouse, which was right across the street from us. We were able to fit in the pull-through site. 6. Sites 1-5 are for temporary campers like us. I'm not sure who gets to use the other sites, but I'm sure some are for active duty living here. 7. The campground doesn't waste money on watering and mowing. It's dusty and there are knee-high weeds in some areas. It's not a pretty campground. It's either a cheap place to live, or in our case, a place to empty our tanks, do laundry, and restock after boondocking in the Sawtooth National Forest. 8. The laundry is FREE. There are 2 washers and 2 dryers but one of the dryers didn't heat up. I called and was told they had put a work order in and they hadn't gotten around to putting a sign up. Fortunately, there is a clothesline with a few clothespins. I put some of my clothes on hangars there and the dried very fast. When you've been boondocking for 2 weeks, the free laundry is very welcome. 9. Each site has a picnic table and grill, but if you use the grill you might blow sparks and smoke into your neighbor's camper. Things are close here. Our grill was knee high; maybe it was for someone in a wheelchair. 10. You need base access to stay here. If you are not retired military or active duty, I'd call the Pass and ID to find out what their requirements are. 11. You may hear the sound of freedom. I'm not sure how late it goes on. The last jet I heard was at 8:48 pm 12. The commissary had lost over half their refrigeration and freezers when we were there, which limited restocking somewhat. However, prices were tons cheaper than what we saw in the mountains. 13. The toilets and showers were very clean, but TP was getting low. It took a long, long time for the shower water to get hot, but then it was very hot. Laundry was fairly clean, but the floor could use sweeping. Plus there was an outlet dripping water onto the laundry floor. I really didn't know what that was about. So it's not a perfect campground, but it served us well to come out of the mountains, do a lot of cleaning, and restock. I would see no reason to come here other than to spend a night when traveling, or to clean and restock when boondocking in the surrounding forests.
