If you're trying to do things in the Jacksonville area, Mayport is further away, but not too far. Osprey Cove has lots of trees, which helps with the Florida heat, but also brings mosquitos. Bathhouse has 2 separate rooms, each with a toilet and large shower, a laundry room with 4 washers and 4 dryers, and an enclosed patio area with games, movies, and tables. However, the bathhouse is not air conditioned, so it gets musty and hot. Laundry is free, though all of the equipment is "smart" and spends a significant amount of time balancing and resetting. Even a small load of just a set of sheets took more than 2 hours because I had to keep going back and resetting the washer. Base amenities include gym, commissary/exchange (off base a few miles, on base there are two shopettes), pool, beach access (dog friendly), gas station, Dunkin Donuts/Panda Express, bowling, golf course, thrift store, auto skill center (closed when we were there), and lounge with bar, movie room, computer room, and gaming room. Pelican Roost is also on NS Mayport but is closer to the water, smaller spaces, and very few trees. If you need to have steady internet connection via Starlink, suggest going to Pelican Roost. We struggled to maintain a connection through the trees of Osprey Cove, but the shade was worth it. MWR has regular activities throughout the year. Two dog parks, one in enlisted housing and one by Pelican Roost.
