1. Park Quality - Decent place with easy access to Oceanside and Carlsbad. Overall, the park is well maintained and clean. You can expect a daily dose of sand in your rig, no matter how diligent you are about cleaning your feet. I did not utilize the showers or restrooms so can’t comment on them. I did utilize the laundry, and it was pretty gross. Open access to anyone and very poorly maintained. There is a park store but found the hours limited and just preferred to head over to the mini mart or the commissary or Exchange. 2. Sites - With the expectation of a few sites, all are right on the sand. Well packed and easy to set up the camper. Utilities were great with pretty high-water pressure. (I tested the water, and it is extremely hard. I wish I would have had a portable softener.) 3. Location - As mentioned, location is great for access to Oceanside and Carlsbad. For walking the dog, the Oceanside marina or on Hwy 1 in Carlsbad are really great options. 4. Noise - Like many places right on the ocean, noise is masked by the crashing waves. However, it is an active training base and as such, there can be lots of loud vehicles that will run right along the park to access training locations. Also, helicopters and Osprey flying overhead. Nothing so egresses that it was bothersome. 5. Cell Service - Verizon was two bars of 5G. 6. Wifi - There is no park WiFi. For my Starlink, I got 70 Mbps down and 48 Mbps up. 7. Rates - $83 a day plus $3 a day for a dog. 8. Access - Of course you need to be a qualified person to make a reservation and utilize the park. Use the main gate and follow signs to Del Mar. Overall, it is very easy to find the park. 9. Dog Friendliness - The walkability is great for dogs and the is a small off-leash park in the El Mar housing area. Also, as mentioned, the Oceanside marina, which is just outside the base, is a great place to get the pups out for a nice long walk. - Wrapping it up. The price is steep but if you were to book off base, it would be twice as much. The location is perfect, and I would certainly return again.
