We are planning a trip after Labor Day to Rt 66. We plan on going up the west coast of FL into LA then north to MS and into AR. From there to Ft Smith and US Rt 66 in OK. Anyone know of any campgrounds on or near Rt 66? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. The CG's can be commercial or FamCamps.
Thanks.

Visit www.legendsofamerica.com/66-Mainpage.html and identify the towns you want to stay over at. Then check this List @ rwarn17588.wordpress.com/campgrounds/ of campgrounds. If you don't find a campground near the town on R66, then google the town's website to identify parks.

Larry, where do you plan to access Rt 66 from Ft Smith? Ft Smith is not anywhere near Rt 66. Oklahoma has more of the original roadway of Rt 66 than any other state. From the west Oklahoma/Texas stateline it either overlays or parallels Interstate 40 to Oklahoma City. From there it angles northeast to Tulsa and then works it's way north-northeast into Kansas and over to Missouri. Between Oklahoma City to Tulsa it pararllels I-44 (Turner Turnpike) but does not overlay the interstate. That entire 120 miles is the "old road", is mostly two lanes and goes through all those little towns. It is a neat drive.

I live in the Oklahoma City area. There are several campgrounds here in town. Only sure of one that is actually on Rt 66 and it is the Twin Fountains RV Park in northeast OKC. Since I always take the Interstate/Turnpike when I go to Tulsa I don't know of any parks actually on Rt 66. BTW, the actual road designation in Oklahoma is State Highway 66 since the Feds did away with the U.S. 66 designation some years ago.

Rick: I made an error when I said Ft Smith. We will continue north in AR until we can cross the state line near Miami. I have info about the Miami area. I still have to finalize my route. Thanks for the info around OKC.

Near the end of your travels following Route 66, you will come along the fun
town of Oatman. A great place to visit! :woohoo:
Oatman is not far from Bullhead City AZ and that is only a few miles from
the Casinos B) of Laughlin NV.
