I'm not eligible for VA, so we use Express-Scripts (TriCare). No driving out my way, no waiting in lines, no hassles. Only $1 (generic) or $3 a month per prescription. One of our few remaining TRUE military benefits.

Hi,

I have used the e scrips for about 2 yrs. now. It is the way to go. Military may be free, but, at the price of a gallon of fuel, might even be cheaper than military!

Express scripts is the only way to go. Price going up a little, but still cheaper than the drive, waite and hassel at military bases, and civilian pharmacies. Plus 90 day refills.

Hello All; I'm new to this forum, but will share my experience with refills. My husband and I are retired and have been living in the UK for about 3 1/2 years and returned to the States on 1 June to begin our latest retirement adventure of full-time RVing. While living in England we were fortunate to have full medical care at RAF Lakenheath. When we got ready to leave, we asked about our prescriptions and would we be able to refill them in the States. We were assured that all the military hospitals were on the same computer system, so we would be "Good to go." Well, this wan't entirely true, but so far, all has been good. We made our first stop for a refill at Beale AFB in August. The only glitch we encountered was that they had to call Lakenheath to confirm the prescriptions with the pharmacy there. We aren't ready for another refill for a couple of months, but we are at Nellis right now, so will check out the Satellite Pharmacy here.

Floozie,

Welcome to the website and the forums. I hope you enjoy the full-timing lifestyle as mush as we do! ;D

We've never tried getting prescriptions from a base. We love Express Scripts. As mentioned earlier, the meds are mailed directly to us, so there's no waiting or hassles and we can get them anytime, anywhere. Generic drugs are only $1 a month, and brand name is $3 a month. This is one of few TRUE benefits we have remaining. I hope they don't raise rates too much anytime soon. I don't count using military campgrounds as a TRUE benefit anymore. With prices at some military campgrounds at $30 - $40 a night, it's not much of a benefit anymore. But there are still good deals on some military campgrounds.

Larry,

If you look at it objectively you?ll come to the conclusion that Express Scripts is an extension of a free ?Benefit?. For people like us that use lots of prescriptions a month (11 generic) the free issue at a military pharmacy is our best option. Once you learn how to transfer your prescriptions from base to base it?s very easy. After more than 31 years of active duty we are pretty accustomed to using our base privileges.
