Great Fam Camp. Although it is small in size, the hosts make every effort to keep everything in top condition and their efforts are commendable. There is no club house to gather in and all sites are back in (and the first row is very tight). The WIFI is slow and sometimes spotty. Our own air card was much faster so we just used it. Retirees can eat in the dining facility on Fridays and holidays. The club has free food on Friday nights for club card members, (just wings and shrimp with a relish tray when we were there). But there is plenty. The truck gate is where RV's must enter, and during the week it can be a bit of a long line waiting for inspections. (RV's are NOT inspected, but must pass thru the same gate so you have to wait in line like the big rigs). Laundry and showers were nice and clean. Three washers and dryes are kept very busy, but their costs are reasonable. I understand that there are plans to add either some pull thru's or put in elect for the overflow area, but nothing firm. Park is very clean and well groomed. Spaces are difficult to back into unless you are experienced RVer. While the park itself was exceptional, found the manager to be on the rude side. My wife had to listen to a lengthy lecture about us parking a quarter inch over a white line. Upset her so much, that we left promptly. Great park, but manager could use some sensitivity training. Bill and Sharon are the Best. Stayed for 10 days while going to school. The campground was full on arrival had to park in overflow for one night. Stayed full for the 10 days we were there, people in overflow almost everyday. Do wish the sites had a little more room, neighbors are close, but all were friendly. Had to run to the bathhouse for a tornado warning with alot of others, 15-20 minutes and all passed and no tornado. We have a 38 foot MH and had no problem parking. Will stay here again in our travels. May 20-May303 of 3 people found the following review helpful
Back again and Bill and Sharon are still the best!! $.50 washers and $.50 dryers that get clothes DRY first time are a real plus. WiFi isn't available at all sites but works great vicinity laundry room. The proximity to I40 and I240 make it an ideal RON while the convenience of the exchange and commissary are great. No Diesel on post, but service station next to famcamp. April 22, 20093 of 3 people found the following review helpful
J.B. left this review using the Directory software: Nice little CG but has very little shade. Watching the martins dart around by the lake is fascinating and knowing they eat their weight in insects every day is encouraging. Staff were very helpful. One note -- the 30A sites share power. There's one power panel for every two 30A sites and the power panels are well behind the pads. A bit of advice -- if you don't already have a 30A extension cord, get one; there's a good chance your going to need it. The host had us park in a 50A site because our 30 foot shore power cord would not reach in either of the two 30A sites available when we arrived. I do not think a more professional, friendly, courteous, knowledgeable, caring, and any other superlative adjective hosts can be found. Bill and Sharon go out of the way to insure you have all the necessary help and information. Then they check up on you to assure you are comfortable, and they do it in a none interfering manner and with a big smile and friendly voice. The FamCamp is a little small and tight but it works. Very clean and well organized. All other managers and hosts should choose Tinker Famcamp to imitate. 6 MAR to 10 MAR 20092 of 2 people found the following review helpful
This is a great Fam Camp. The only reason I didn't give it all 5's was because it was difficult to maneuver our 5th wheel into our campsite. It was a back-in campsite yet they have parallel parking for your vehicles directly in front of the sites, so if there are vehicles parked there (which there were) you have to do a lot of jockeying to get into your spot. The hosts, Sharon and Bill are just SUPER friendly and helpful. Laundry is only 50 cents for washers/50 cents for dryers and they have a nice little book/magazine exchange in there. No cable but we got quite a few stations with our antenna. We didn't get a chance to check anything out on base because we were visiting with nearby friends off base but we DEFINITELY want to come back when we have more time. On our cross country move in our TT we only picked a few famcamps to stay at and dry camped at truck stops for the other nights... We got in real late and were accommodated without complaint and the host was super friendly. The only Famcamp we made a major effort to it was this one. And it lived up to the reviews no problem! It was great and we plan to stay there again!!! Pros: super friendly/helpful host, cheap laundry, clean laundry and bathrooms, little lake with fishing, close to gate, location (just a few miles off the 40). Cons: no internet, a little small.. had some trouble pulling out. Oct 2-6, 20080 of 0 people found the following review helpful
C. left this review using the Directory software: Hosts very friendly and helpful. Sites are small and although it is listed as Big Rig Friendly, our 50 amp site was short and we hung out into the street. A wooden plank at the rear of the site prevented us from backing up into the site any further. 30 September - 2 October 20081 of 1 people found the following review helpful
This Famcamp is relatively small, but can handle larger RV's. The hosts make this CG a great place to stay. They are very knowledgeable of the base facilities and local area. They obviously take pride in operating a first class Famcamp. Only negative is the lack of WIFI at the campground. |
