I am trying to this right the first and not learn expensive lessons that you veterans of RV'ing have already learned. So I need your help, because I just spent 3 hours online researching and got a head ache.

So here is the scenario; I plan to be home in my house ~60% of the year and RV'ing cross country ~40% of the year. Phone service is easy, my wife and I will have wireless cell phones only whether we are at home or RV'ing.

QUESTIONS:
- INTERNET and TV for both HOME and RV: What is the BEST service, set-up exchange, and cost efficient combination way to go so that we can have one service provider both at home and RV'ing. I am guessing there is a way hook-up at home when home and in the RV when RV'ing for both.
- INTERNET and TV use on the ROAD (in motion): If I am driving my RV and my wife decides she wants to connect to the INTERNET or watch TV, can one or both of these be accomplished ? If so, how much would something like that cost (on average knowing that it depends on services) ?

Go to datastormusers.com I think you can find all your answers there using their forum. You don't have to be a member to ask questions. There are several members who are very knowledgeable.

We have dish network at home with 3 individual receivers for each TV. We take 2 receivers with us and use on the road, cost will depend on what type of dish package you purchase, our cost is about $100.00 a month. We hook the receivers up at home and we also have an in-motion so just turn on the inverter, your King Dome or whatever you have on the RV roof, the receiver and TV you want to watch and that is it. For internet at home and in the RV we use a MiFi from Verizon as we have a Verizon cell phone. MiFi runs us about $45.00 a month but we can get on the internet anywhere, anytime and no one else can use it as it is securely installed only on our laptop and the MiFi can be used on 5 wireless devices just in case you have more than one laptop/desktop or wireless printer etc. with you. If you are not a Verizon user check with your cell phone carrier as they most likely have something similar. We used to use a broadband card but signal was iffy in certain areas.

One issue you will always have is local programs, and also, somehow, we always get the shows we do watch - not a lot of those - at the time they are shown in Florida ... so if you are in Texas, for example, and live in Florida and take the Florida Package, you will see the shows two hours earlier each evening.

I think that's about it, but not positive, somehow, some get local, but when I ask DirectTV, got a runnaround ... and not the sharpest tools on the phone ...

But we don't care about local - watch movies, and nature, etc ...

One thing, if you ask for something, and they give it when you sign up - GET IT IN WRITING OR EMAIL, or it will get changed and DTV will have lost the record of your talk - BELIEVE THAT ...

Both are good services, it's the followup nad service people that are a hassle - also, they sell you 150 or 200 channels, and half or more are 'sales' shows, selling you 'things' so, if you think you're getting 150 channels all movies and drama/commedy or nature - never happen.

So, just be careful what you order, and be sure you get what or pay for. The actual mechanics are great, clear picture and sound, that part is excellent ... it's waht you get ofr what you pay that gets bouncy,..

If you are a Dish Network subscriber you can have local programs from the area you are in. We just call Dish Network and ask for the RV Technician and tell him the zip code we are in and they switch our at home locals from Tampa, Fl. (pay $5.99) to the local channels in the area we are in. We even switch to the Dish locals even if we have cable as no need to switch back and forth from cable to Dish, whatever works best for you and your pocketbook.

I have dish. NOT dish network(no local channels while on the road). Dish lets me get local channel wherever I am at. All I do is unplug the receiver for 10 seconds and when it comes on it ask where you are.Scan down to the city you are at and push the remote button. I bought a cube called tailgater for the RV ($320). It came with a dish for the RV but you had to align it and I am lazy. I have a dish at the house.Pay $49.00 a month for 1 receiver and 120 channels.
