This was quite possibly among the very best military RV park we stayed at during an almost 8 month tour of the U. S. Extremely well-spaced sites, with large, level concrete pads. Fire pit suitable for grilling. Pretty and green, well-maintained. Didn't see the interior of the bathrooms but laundry was well-equipped and nicely kept. They rent kayaks right down on the water. Base swimming pool within walking distance. Commissary and BX nearby. But the really awesome thing is that...
Nice RV park across street from base park and near end of runway. Not too noisy although we could hear the four lane highway and an occasional train as well. Roomy enough. Did not use any of their facilities so cannot comment. Our main thought is that the gravel RV park road REALLY needs to be graded. Such deep ruts and potholes make it so difficult for larger rigs such as our coach to navigate. Even at a snails pace...
Have sent an update re: accessing post from the new 24-hour gate. Large military presence, kind of out in the country, but comfortable for trips to Baltimore inner harbor as well as the US Naval Academy (a must-do!). They do not guarantee a satellite signal because of all the trees, (not having TV for a week doesn't harm us). Check-in was a lengthy process compared to other mil camps; they kill a lot of trees giving you regs you're...
Somewhat over rated in our opinion. Certainly the most expensive military RV park on our cross-country trip. Outdoor Rec closed at 3 p.m. and we arrived to check in just after. There was nothing for us in the late arrivals bin so thank goodness I met a maintenance guy just leaving work who helped me because our site had changed from the info in the confirmation. The gate access in and out is a nice touch. But their one rental...
Cheatham Annex is a sweet spot. One can see from the giant warehouses (many of which badly need exterior makeovers) and ship storage yards that there is still a military mission here, but at least 50% of the mission seems MWR! Everything needed for all things rest, rec and fun are present and accounted for, even though somethings were closed due to COVID (the grill and maybe the swimming pool?). If you play golf, the Annex has a gorgeous course....
Enjoyed our stay. Using the photos from this website, I deliberately picked the north section due to fewer trees for easier satellite reception. No problems there (driving through the more "scenic" south section, I see where some sites might have blocked our reception). Couldn't see the ocean or hear it much, nevertheless we liked being just a walk over the dunes. Would have been nice to get a better briefing upon checking in as to where to access the pet...
Not much has changed since JimUSMC reviewed the park with some exceptions. Our reservations paperwork said site #4 was ours but we couldn't determine any site numbers because the small signs are covered by black paint obscurring the little site numbers. So odd. It's like they don't want people to know which site is which. So before just taking one, I drove our tow car down the street to MWR in Bldg 24 and found NO ONE despite wandering all...
Not much to say one way or another. Had a roomy paved pull through but still couldn't get fully level in our 39 ft coach. Quiet place. Didn't have need to check in personally (probably a COVID-19 measure), so "hospitality" is based on a few phone calls. Didn't use any facilities as we were there to visit Civil War sites. Fort AP Hill is off the beaten path and no commissary; They said there was a small Exchange but we...
Here we are on the beautiful shores of Wateree Reservoir. We can see the lake in two places from our site #3. Had no trouble getting our motorhome level in this site on the concrete slab but walking around we saw several sites that would have been a challenge to get leveled. Had to wait greater than one hour to check-in as the sign on the office said "out to lunch." However, the gal was efficient and friendly once they...
Maybe this RV park was a trailer park in it's previous life? Nevertheless, it was just what we needed as a "home base" with which to go into Charleston to explore Forts Moutrie and Sumter. Not within a gated area, we still felt very safe as it's located through and off to the side of one of Joint Base Charleston's housing areas. The friendly camp host met us for check-in. On the right of our site, the next site over...
Nice little campground and we loved the lake view from site #15. Appreciate the concrete pad even though it still had a slope. Despite having the maps they sent us, we had a bit of a challenge actually finding the RV park. Mainly because we have been with Uncle Sam for 45 years and still find it odd to not go through an ID checkpoint gate to get onto a military base. But there is no gate that protects the...
Stayed in two different sites in the trees over by the bath house--lucky for us they had a site available so we could extend our stay due to slide problems in our coach. Unfortunately we couldn't pick up a satellite signal from either spot, so no TV for a about a week (yes, we survived!). Did use the laundry room and it was clean even though one machine leaked out the front door which I reported to the office in...
Somewhat of a challenge to find and because our emailed confirmation gave the address as "Bldg 13," we somehow missed that you have to check in at the main billeting office first (Navy Gateways Inn). The RV park is literally right on the shores of Lake Michigan and check-in is up on the bluff a few blocks from the old administration building with the big clock tower. The potable water to fill your RV tank is also hard to find....
Nice quiet little park. Our site was on the hill side overlooking the pond and golf course and we enjoyed that view. Only downsides were no garbage disposal of any sort...had to go driving around the base to find dumpsters. In addition, they need to re-grade the gravel roads into and around the RV area as storm water run-off has made huge ruts. Our coach was rocking and rolling despite proceeding at a crawl. Be ware your phone's GPS...
Little gem in the big woods. The Army really did it right regarding this facility. We had a pull-thru loop that was clean, green and spacious, not to mention paved and level. Campers here can truly get a sense of serenity, no stuffing rigs too near each other. Those without RVs are in luck too, due to numerous cabins in different sizes. They appear well kept from the outside. Swimming pool (not open yet), playground, bicycle rentals and boat launch....
What a great park! Just the right mix of shade and open areas. Helpful, friendly camp hosts. RECYCLING bins, which are hard to find these days. Clean shower/restrooms and, wait for it...FREE laundry. I mean, who does that? Nice deck to sit outside while your clothes wash and dry. You can walk to the harbor water as well as Mulligan's bar and restaurant at the golf course. The commissary, BX and gas station are all very close by. The only...
