Change in management and as a result of COVID the bathrooms were very clean! Thank you ODR. New staff has really taken ownership. Still pretty limited on # of w/e sites. The dump station is tight but not too bad. We’ll stay there again.
Wake up every morning to the sound of Freedom! Love it! It’s been one year since we stayed. No significant changes and our biting pesky friends were still there to draw our blood inside and outside the camper. Staff is friendly and responsive. High water from rains have reduced number of camping spots by roughly 1/3. Some sites have humps and curves limited trailers to less than 35 ft length due to turning radius. ...
Cons: 1. Besides the Lake there is nothing here. 2. The latrine owned by the park service is generally dirty. This gave myself and my boys something to do. Pros: 1. Super simple campground that has everything but showers. Very slanted yet long sites with perfect flat spaces in the middle. The air base’s cantonment area is very small. No real hospital only a “super” clinic for assigned personnel. BX/PX super small but had what we needed. Commissary was perfect. Nice place despite the virus.
Campground located AT THE END OF THE RUNWAY! So if you don’t like the sound of FREEDOM every morning at 0800 sharp than look else where. Big rig friendly. Very family friendly. Bathrooms are toilet/shower combinations. Parents please clean up after your kids or teach them how to use the bathroom. This place could be great. But sadly it’s not. Run by the MWR Outdoor Rec, it is poorly managed. Sites were level, well spaced, secluded with shady and sunny sites available. Zero oversight. Very very roughly run campground. MWR bldg which is in charge of the two campgrounds is located 200 meters to west southwest and there is little oversight. Bathrooms are located at the MWR bldg. The bathrooms and laundry facility were very dirty that they gave my wife and momma something to do while washing clothes. Really needs just a little oversight. Small and closing for winter when we arrived. The staff was cool but located not on the campground but at the MWR shop near target reference point Burger King. The gym was very nice for the small size of the base. Sites were good size and level. Would stay again.
Staff was awesome. We had rv issues and they truly helped us out until it was resolved. Pay raise for Jessica. Very family friendly. Some sites are very tight go early and inspect the site before dragging your 39ft toy hauler to many of the sites. McChord has lots of opportunities, we loved the library. Though the ants and their ant hills are a source of entertainment.....they do bite. Will stay again.
Two campgrounds: one long term typical parking lot and a second tucked in the back corner of the base. Shower/toilet combination bathrooms in the back campground. Could use more cleaning however. Very small, very easy to back in. No immediate bathrooms have to use the gym which is pretty old school but cool. My site’s water did not work. Family friendly. 12 or so sites and three were held by long termers. Would definitely stay again!
Pretty and lots to do but lake ten steps away was off limits. Our site 12 or 13 was difficult to back in. Bathrooms were nice toilet/shower combinations. Off post access, I think Walmart was closer than the commissary. We’d go back.
Quiet and family friendly. Sweet bathrooms toilet/shower combinations. Well laid out and easy to park our rig. Concrete pads are not quite level. A lot of birds. Williamsburg is very close.
On Perdido Bay, water quality issues from paper mill discharge. For two days it really smelled bad. All sites are first come first served, making it difficult to find a site suitable for our rig. Campground layout is very tight! Go slow! I finally parked and walked until we found a site. No big deal but the check desk could have reduced our effort by knowing what sites are available to fit our rig. ...
Tight tight spots. Cleaning solution used in the bathroom could be used to decontaminate military equipment and then poison the crew. It was very clean however. Staff was very nice. Pool was fun. Halfhitch Tackle is roughly a mile away and worth a stop for gear. Probably won’t stay again if other nearby locations are available, just too tight for the family.
Fantastic! Great place for the family! Campsites were not for the faint of heart. If you want easy parking lot or concrete pads without overhanging live oaks....this is not your campground. Quiet despite the toll bridge cutting through the campground. The manager was a great guy and made sure we were taking care of. Beach was awesome! Parked our kayaks overnight on the water.
