Time for an update on this great little park. We live only three hours away, so we have visited frequently for the last fifteen years. The best, and most pleasant, change recently is a new park manager who goes out of her way to accommodate campers. Very nice change from the prior management, and I expect some of the old-timers to return this winter. Other than all the new picnic tables, not much...
BIG RIG ALERT - The NAS Corpus RV park has two areas. Park A (at one time a mobile home park) has 28 essentially unlimited length grass sites with concrete patios. About half of these sites are pull-through. There is a restroom and washers, but no showers in park A. The larger Park B has concrete pads for parking and patio and all are back-in. Nice bathhouse, laundry and community kitchen in Park B. ...
One of the best fam camps we've visited. Well laid out and more amenities than we've ever seen - especially appreciated the huge air compressor at the dump station. We spent three nights in overflow while passing through the area and found the dry camping area better laid out than some FHU sites at other installations. Large, beautiful exchange and commissary were icing on the cake. Our only complaint is the no reservations policy. They should...
Beautiful location and a staff that went out of their way to find us a site. A couple of important notes, though. 1. This is the first installation we have visited that requires RV's to use the truck lane at the gates. The sign says delivery trucks use right lane, but they mean anything larger than a car. They told us a large vehicle would not fit through the serpentine barriers. 2. The RV park...
THE RV PARK OFFICE IS NO LONGER AT THE MARINA OR CHAPEL. Big flashing sign at the main gate tells people the RV office is now at building 4008 (the auto hobby shop near the commissary). Yet, every day we see people trying to check in at the marina. Not many other changes, lately. Price went up recently to $25/night which is still a bargain. Same friendly faces in the office and great camp hosts....
This is our favorite campground and we hit it several times each year. There have been a few changes in the last year. First, the check in office moved from the marina office to the old chapel (Bldg 332) then (currently) to the auto hobby shop. When you come in the main gate, pass the hospital then look to the right and you'll see the NEX/Commissary. Turn right before or after the NEX and you'll see the...
This park is the consolidation of the Army Rec area (still called Hancock Cove) and the AF Rec area (still called Sunnyside) on either side of the road. Both parks have about the same facilities - RV sites, cabins, marina, etc. and common management. The Hancock Cove side has a small store. Both are gated and require a code to enter after hours. We get good 4G coverage on Verizon or Tmobile and we don't have any trouble streaming...
This is the former Randolph AFB recreation area at Canyon Lake, TX (sometimes called Sunny Side). On the other side of Jacobs Creek Road is the former Fort Sam Houston recreation area. Both areas are now run by Joint Base San Antonio and there is often some confusion between the two areas, which seem to each have different management. We stayed at the Ft Sam area a few weeks ago and were interested in how the Randolph side compares....
This is a beautiful campground with well developed sites, some with lake views. Be aware that this is the former Fort Sam Houston Rec area and the former Randolph AFB rec area is right across the road. Both are now under Air Force management as part of the JBSA organization and the names can be confusing. We thoroughly enjoyed our one night stay here and hope to return. The area is exceptionally clean and well maintained. Lots of wildlife...
We just spent three days at Shields Park NAS Recreation Area and enjoyed it very much. Nice and quiet, great location with access to all the base facilities as well as the City of Corpus Christi and the beach. Had no problems and the staff was excellent. Lots of space between sites and the grass was well maintained with no (well, very few) stickers. Everything was well maintained and very clean. Only very minor criticism is that the 30A...
