One of our favorite campgrounds. Hadn't been here in about a year and was reminded upon arrival of just how beautiful this area is. Nothing like walking along the estuary and seeing the seals, brown pelicans, plover's and other wildlife. Campground was very clean and I observed one of the camphosts, Tony, consistently working to keep the place clean on weekends. Very customer oriented young man. Very convenient to the surrounding Jacksonville area. Very well stocked mini-mart at the usual mini-mart prices. Individuals working there seemed well informed and were very helpful. This is a nice campground on a small base with very limited amenities. You definitely want to get a campsite in the new section (sites 5-14)! The sites are new, level, with excellent reception potential for satellite. They have 3 very nice cabins right next to the water. We visited this campground and recreation area to check out all the options in the area for future visits. The location of this campground and all the cabin options makes it an excellent central place to stay while visiting the Williamsburg area. There are two sections of the campground and sites 11-19 are the best option for bigger rigs. Be sure to have extra cable wire (50 ft or so) as you may need to go to an adjacent site...
This is a small, quiet campground on a very historic base. It is an excellent value as they accept the Golden Age/Access Passports. The campground sits in a site that is close to the water and a nice recreation area. It is within easy driving access of many attractions in the area. We have been staying at Sea Mist Campground at the Damn Neck Annex in Virginia Beach and went exploring to all the local campgrounds to check out other places to stay. This is an excellent location to visit the Tidewater area. It is one of 3 military campgrounds in the area (Oceana and Little Creek are the others). It is just a short walk on a boardwalk over the sand dunes to a beach where you can fish, sunbathe and wade. There is NO SWIMMING allowed at this beach. The camp staff is excellent and very helpful.
