We stayed here two nights on the way from southern New Mexico to Dallas, TX. Small campground, but spacious enough sites. The campground near the hospital and close to the Arnold Street Gate so don't have to drive through the base to get to it. The road to the campground is currently torn up for construction. We stayed a month and really enjoyed our stay. Great setting in a pine forest, with birds, squirrels, pocket gophers, and the occasional deer. We stayed three weeks in the new section of the Sea Mist RV Park. No shade trees to speak of, but more cooling breezes here than the older section gets. Rated amenities/facilities as 3 star only because we did not use them (they did look clean and well-maintained). The walk to the beach can be a bit of a hike, but wasn't a big issue. Operated by Maxwell-Gunter on Eglin property. There are no manicured grounds here. Nor are there any concrete pads; or any amenities other than a bathhouse and laundry ... and kayak rentals from the campground office for $5/hour. The campground is rustic — and more than a little rundown ... doubtful it will be upgraded anytime soon. That said, we really enjoyed our stay, and Eggy was a wonderful, friendly hostess. Great campground, and you don't have to wander through the NCBC to get to it like you do on some military facilities. It is just past the main gate. No surprise, I guess ... the SeaBees know how to build things. We liked how the long term and short term campers are in separate sections of the same campground. Our corner pull through was excellent for a short stay. Be warned if train noise bothers...

The five stars all the way down the rating chart says it all. We loved this campground and if not for plans already in place, would have happily extended our stay. Kenny and his staff are welcoming and do a good job of maintaining the campground, and providing guests with information about the area. We had two weeks booked here beginning 3 June. Unfortunately, we left without staying because the sites in the section we were assigned to (section 4) were infested with ants .... teeming with them. The campers in the neighboring site indicated that the ants were getting into their trailer and truck. If you go, be prepared with ant spray and bait. We were prepared, but the area to be sprayed was too big ... work more...

Great camp. We stayed here for two weeks on each occasion. The sites in the new section are very easy to maneuver into; all pull through FHUs with level concrete hook-ups. They are a bit closely-spaced, but no worse than some resorts that charge a great deal more. The old section - mostly long-termers - could use some policing; big rigs could have difficulty getting into them because of the narrow roads/sites and the canopy over the picnic tables in...

We paid the few extra dollars for a waterfront site ... were told which sites were available when we arrived and selected one of them.
