Stayed here one night before moving to the better US Army Seaward Resort across the street. This (USAF)facility closes the end of August 2012. Spoke, or tried to speak with the female manager. JE, having stayed at the WP FC many times over the years, I am hard pressed to see any "improvements" the now retired manager did for the facility. Hopefully she took all her useless orange cones with her! We were there the day the "new" fam camp opened at WP. And from that day on it has been nothing but a down hill slide. HEADS UP: the MCChord Fam Camp will be CLOSED during the McChord Air Show July 2012. Over the years Roy has done a great job of improving the McChord FamCamp. June-July 2012 the bathhouse/laundry room is closed. It is being redone and will be a great improvement. The Fam Camp will be closed for the McChord Air Show believe dates are 20 - 23 July. We had no problems while staying there for three weeks and did not have to move to another space. We were in a back in space across from main laundry room. Not all of the spaces are 70' long as stated below. The pull through are longer. Back in spaces are less than 70'. Rates: seems rates are going up at every FamCamp. Daily rate of $35 at Meade is way out of line....
There is no host at the WP Fam Camp. The woman who works there is a full time employee. Been there for years and years. They could use a host. But, WP MWR will not let anyone be the host.
Yes the price is reasonable for full hook up and partial spaces. But, what is price if a FamCamp starts to fill up with homesteaders and you cannot get in? Jax NAS should follow their own rules on length of stay and make homesteaders move on. A Fam Camp is not a mobile home park.
I have never seen a military, state, or federal campground do this: the woman who runs the Fam Camp at Wright Patterson AFB, Ohio will charge $10.00 per night PER tent/item for the tent campers. Also, she tells them they are not permitted to use the shower room at the RV park (which is right at the tent area anyway). Agree with below comments regarding homesteaders. When staying at JAX NAS RV park for two weeks last December,2011, we noticed a hand full of them (mostly active duty and DOD civilians) who were there from our visit in 2010! We learned from other campers that some of these homesteaders have been in the campground for Y E A R S ! Agree with below post, we also wonder how "they swing that being there are length of stay...
First week May 2012, after last visit 2 years ago: While there have been some improvements, we do not rate this campground even a 3.0. The woman who works in the office still needs to improve her customer skills. Looking around the camp ground we found many of the same fixtures are still broken from over two years ago!
