Stayed one night while traveling from GA to TX. Made our reservation easily and found the site level and easy to get into. The directions were very good, although the gate guard (not military) said we came in the wrong gate ..... it was the one in the directions! It's a very nice campground that we will come back to for a longer visit.
We stopped here again on our way south and spent 2 weeks. The office is now located on the campground side of the recreation facility, so you don't have to take a long walk to check in and pay for your site. Isaac and Bill are friendly and responsive, however the base facilities took 2 days to replace a 50 amp circuit breaker. The base needs to put some funds and effort into supporting this campground....
We stayed here for 2 weeks visiting friends and enjoying the Savannah area. This is the third time we have stayed and always find the campground a reasonable value and haven't experienced some of the problems others have described. We have always been able to find a "hole" in the canopy of trees to get signal for the satellite. There are fewer homesteaders than we remember, though there are some units we saw there last year. ...
BIG change! Homesteaders are gone!! We stayed here in November on our way south and again in April heading north. In November we were told changes were coming, and they now have limited length of stay which has made the homesteaders move on. There were 7 sites available, when we arrived. The staff is friendly and responsive. There are improvements that need to be made to some sites. Drainage is an issue for...
Have never stayed here, but we lived in Hampton for many years before selling the house and going fulltime in 2006. We have driven through each time we come back to the area to see if anything has improved . . . . . it has NOT. In the past we have tried to contact the manager for reservation information without success. On our last drive through we saw much of what has been said in earlier...
Savannah is one of our favorite cities and a regular stop as we travel along the coast on I-95. This was our first stay at Hunter AAF, but we will be sure to check availability and stay here again. Herschel is exceptionally hospitable and friendly, always ready to offer assistance. The campground roads are not paved and neither are the sites, but the electric, water and sewer connections are new and easy to use. They have...
Had heard about the nasty gravel road before arrival and took it real slow. Nice new concrete pads with new electricity and water hook ups, but why no sewer? The office has no parking area for RVs but was told on the phone the site number when reservation was made. Very, very dusty. Stayed there to visit family in Daleville but would stay at civilian park in Dothan next time.
Nice quiet campground with everything you need on post a few miles away. The 2 lane road in to the campground is pretty straight, but very dark with lots of deer at night. The host was very helpful. We didn't have much problem at the dump station with our 35 ft. MH but sure would like to see sewer added to the sites.
Great location in the Hampton Roads area. The rates seem high without having a community room and no WiFi or cable, and the grounds are not very well maintained. The view of the surrounding area is really nice, especially the sunset across the water. It is very quiet there.
The base is remote and the campground is even more remote, but it is really quiet. This was the second visit for us and we have enjoyed the peace and quiet. The staff at MWR are friendly and the gate guards made sure we had the phone number to security in case we had a visit from Momma Bear and her cubs. We never saw her!
