Famcamp website now says $35 per day.
Reservations in advance now MANDATORY. Do NOT arrive without reservations in advance. Contractor type generators will not pass new decibel restrictions of 74 db at 10 feet. Either bring quiet RV type portable generator or expect to be told not to run it or being asked to leave. Bring enough power cord to meet new mandate of all portable generators MUST be placed front center of the RV (no longer optional placement). When you arrive you will be given...
Dyess FamCamp is overpriced for the area, for the campground, for the space, and for what it offers. Many much better, much nicer Famcamps are way less money. This is basically a parking lot, with short sites, spaced closely together. The back in sites are not even numbered so that those of us arriving with reservations can know which site to park in! How hard is it to number the sites??? Sites are short, and pretty close to neighbors...
(Editors note: Updates were removed from review, but added to the listing - thanks!) If you have a DOD ID card use the Apache Gate across from the Love Travel Center, Mon-Fri 5 AM to 6 PM, Sat 6 AM to 2 PM, closed Sunday. Other days and times make sure to call the numbers listed for instructions.
Trumbo and Sigsbee both full to full capacity as of Friday 1/15/2016. New arrivals are being turned away. Highly advise calling ahead to see if departures have occurred to allow for new arrivals. Long drive to be turned away.
Updates: Trumbo Point dry camping is now open. Walk through pedestrian gate at Trumbo now permanently closed, as is entire area by the Coast Guard Cutters. Rotation has begun on Sigsbee, and is off and on as people come and go. Prices will increase on 1 Nov 2015 as follows: Full Hookup Military $24 per night, DoD $29 Dry Camp Military $14 per night, DoD $17 Change of food area at Boca Chica Marina,...
Just a few updates. Our last visit was in 2010 and some things have changed. The common areas and empty sites on Rock pile and Hollywood are not being mowed or maintained by the base or hosts and looks very bad. (The hosts work hard/long hours and they should not be responsible for the mowing in my opinion). The grass and weeds are overgrown along the waterfront and in empty spaces. Campers are responsible for...
Weekly rate is now $120 and daily rate $20. Club card still good for 10 percent off. New host this year. They are trimming the trees on the west side by the pavilion. WiFi down, but should be fixed early next week.
$7 per night for retirees with FHU. (pay at lodging office, box with envelopes if closed). Now there is an explanation of what FHU means here. Some pedestals are 50/30 amp, and some are 30 amp. Also boon docking sites if FHU are full (@ $3 per night). The water with pressure is either non potable, or very heavy in minerals with some arsenic. For pressurized water either use a key to turn water...
Stayed one night while heading through. Retirees now pay $23 per night for FHU 50/30 amp, water and sewer, and a concrete pad. Price is too high for what they have to offer compared to other bases. (Pay at the lodging office behind the upper tier of the campground). Small commissary in walking distance, with small BX co located with gas station behind the commissary. For $23 might as well just stay in a local...
As of 1 Oct 2011, new rate is $18 a night. They now offer free cable tv, limited channels, but a big improvement. WIFI is free but weak. Bathrooms and laundry still dirty, with layer upon layer of dead bugs in light fixtures. Dog droppings on many sites. No sign of the camp hosts for the entire 1 week stay. Stayed one week, charged for 8 nights. Had to get that...
Make sure to print out the directions and do not rely on your GPS which will likely take you to a gate only open a few hours on Saturday and Sunday. We have visited many famcamps in the past 8 years, and never met a rude MWR employee until here. The fellow who works in the store and assigns spaces and does the paperwork was very abrupt and rude both on the phone for reservations and in person....
We are at Fallon NAS as I type. $15 per day, or $90 per week. Large concrete pads, all are pull through. 50 amp FHU, cable TV with a tremendous number of channels. Free laundry (need a key from MWR or camp host, drop key in lock box before departure). Three working high speed wifi connections available. Verizon air card and cell phone reception is good. Great deal for a famcamp. ...
