While it is apparent that there is very little management associated with this CG, I'm not one to look for dirt in a pile of gold. There are a lot more positives than negatives. All sites are level concrete pads which any sized rig can fit onto. The interior road is asphalt. The bath house is modern with a couple showers/toilets each. The laundry room has two new wash/dry machines and they are free to use. ...
Other reviewers have previously commented on the poor WiFi. I've been here twice in the last 30 days and it still sucks to the point that it sometimes isn't even usable. It is absurd that the grass all over the base gets watered every day, but this long term issue goes uncorrected. I won't be returning to this FamCamp.
I was here to attend an airshow event and was allowed to park without charge in what could be considered an overflow area for two reasons. One is that the CG is completely full of permanents and the other is that sites are open only to active duty National Guard members. Retirees are not permitted whether you are a Guard member or not. Even if that were the case, the park would not be one that...
This is a nice FamCamp. The access road is paved. The sites are either paved or concrete, but there is some degree of sloping on many of the back-ins; although, there is plenty of space between sites. There are picnic tables and fire rings. The utilities worked as expected. The combination MWR office and club/bath house is pretty much centrally located. There are at least a half dozen individual shower rooms which precludes any waiting. There is also a...
The campground is not in the Academy section of the Navy base. That makes it hard to find and difficult to get to. One has to drive through a residential area on a curvy road where there is a lack of signs pointing to the campground. That is one issue that makes it not big rig friendly. Another reason is that the interior campground road is gravel and hilly with some sharp turns. Most of the...
The last time I stayed here was a decade ago. It was nice then and still is. The trees have grown to provide some shade for sitting around the campsite. They do not interfere with satellite signal reception. All pads are concrete and level. Utilities work well although the voltage dipped occasionally. Perhaps due to the campground being full and abnormally hot weather for this part of the country. The bath house was clean. Verizon cell coverage, to include 3G,...
The campground is located in a nice quiet area of the base and I found it to be clean and well maintained. The access and campground roads are gravel. The sites are gravel and level. Some sites are wider than others so if one wishes elbow room from the neighbor, then ask. There are only eight pull through sites and they have no shade. Each site has a picnic table. There is a pay for...
It isn’t necessary for me to repeat most of the information that others have posted for the campground. I found most of it accurate with a couple exceptions. First, this facility most likely will never be a ‘Five’. It will need to make huge advancements toward the common resort type amenities that actually deserve that rating. Wi-Fi, landscaping, cable, etc. would be some of those necessary to garner a five. If anyone thinks that the military is...
This is a small, but nice FamCamp. Access to it is easy for all size rigs. It is on an off base area lake which provides some MWR rentals of boating and other water recreation equipment. The drive to Goodfellow for such things as commissary and BX will take about 20 minutes depending on traffic. Most other off campground shopping needs are close by. The office, pool, and host staff were very cordial and helpful. Campsite roads are mostly...
I was here a couple months ago and have returned during my travels. The purpose of this second review is to recap some of the issues brought up in other reviews. There is some train whistle noise depending on their schedule and is more pronounced at the back of the CG. The airfield traffic from sailplane towing creates some noise, but it’s during daylight hours. The access road is gravel, but well maintained. Some sites are not completely level...
My normal driving day is around 300 miles/day before I stop at a campground. Today I drove 452, thru winds and some rain, just so I could stay at this particular one. I’ve been here before and have never been disappointed. If you need to have a site for satellite coverage then ask for one that provides it. If you need to be near a bath house, then ask for it. If you need a big rig site, then make...
All sites are level and utilities are good. There are no trees for shade and there isn't much room between sites. POVs have to be parallel parked between rigs next to the road which henders getting into a site if you have a larger RV. All rigs need to come thru the commercial gate on the south side of the base otherwise you may not fit thru the barriers at other gates. There is a huge mall just out the...
Positives: Professional staff, laundry facility, reasonable prices with age and America the Beautiful Card discounts, close to Ft Knox facilities, small lake with fishing, fairly new cabins to rent, well kept bathhouses, pleasing surroundings, free Wi-Fi. Negatives: It's a journey to get to this place from the major interstates. There are 32 rules mostly aimed at protecting their grass, Wi-Fi is as slow as a dead turtle, the squatters have all of the FHU 50 amp sites, the dump...
There is an old and new section in the C/G. The older section has trees for shade, but those sites nearest the office are over grown. It would be difficult for a larger rig to fit on them without scraping the branches. The new section of the C/G has all gravel, wide, level, and long sites which will accommodate any size rig. They actually would fit two larger rigs on each site. There is a picnic table but no fire...
The base is 10 miles from town so if anything is needed that can't be had at the commissary or BX it might be handy to stop there first. Entry to the base will be much easier if the commercial traffic Crowe gate is used. Once past it, follow the road for a few miles and turn left on Falcon. There are very few signs directing you to the base facilities. Fortunately, it's a small base so a minimal amount...
They wouldn’t keep us from returning, but there were some annoying aspects to our stay here. The very first is that the Roy gate movable barriers made for a tight entry for my large MH plus tow. The security guards refused to move them a bit to make it safer. Be aware that the base doesn’t have many road/information signs. Ask for a base map at the gate. The camp ground has community water faucets in the original section of...
