In reference to the previous dry camping comments. Here is what was in the latest base newspaper, Thunderbolt, dated October 26, 2017. Julie Farcy, a recreational aide at the camp: "As of this week, the FamCamp is about 80 percent full, said Julie Farcy, a recreational aide at the camp. There are 384 camping spots." "A change this year is that the dry camp, or camping without water or electricity hookups, is not available. The dry camp area is...
The desert location we found okay. The base has no assigned aircraft but many come here for the good winter weather to practice: including the Blue Angles Jan-Mar. It can be noisy at times but we are guest and if we don't like it then we don't have to stay there. The commissary is like the old corner grocery store: has almost everything, no problem parking and the staff is very friendly. Not sure what was going on with...
This is one of favorite stops when we visit Florida for the winter. We always make reservations and this is a must if you want to stay here during the spring time when everyone is moving north after their winter stay. If you want to stay on the front row to have a better view of the ships, reservation is definitely required. Wi-Fi did not exist where we were parked even though a worker told me the antenna 40-feet away...
Had reservation for April 15-18. Our schedule allowed us to arrive two days early so I called and they were very accommodating to allow me to arrive early. Be careful with the directions to the park. Take exit 183 off of I-20 and go north. Once you turn left on SC Hwy 47W, the entrance is just past the convenience store/gas station on your right. The directions should say 8/10 and not .8 because we missed the decimal point and...
First time staying here and enjoyed the quietness and larger sites. The directions to the area need to be updated because the McDonalds is closed and sign is gone. However, the NEX (Navy Exchange) is just past the old McDonalds and is a good landmark just before your turn to the left. Your left turn is between the NEX and a fire station. We had an assigned site when we made our reservations but it was changed upon our arrival....
We had a reservation so upon arrival we visited the office. We were told to drive around and pick an open site. We wanted to stay in the annex so we headed that way. We were surprised that most of the sites, especially the better ones, were already taken by the end of October. A large number bring their RVs there in September and early October and leave them for 1-3 months just to get “their site”. Of course they...
Amenities/Facilities: Fitness Center is small and usually very crowded. The BX/NEX and Commissary are several miles out the front gate. VALUE: I rated value lower because there is no discount for weekly or monthly payments. EXPERIENCE: I was required to pay for the entire 2-week reservation at the time I arrived. I decided to leave 1-day early due to approaching weather. I was unable to get a refund but did receive a credit for $20 for my next...
I had a reservation and called one day before to confirm it. At that time I was told that effective Oct. 1, 2011 that you could reserve the front row (closest to the water) for $2 more or for a total of $20. The other full hookup sites are $18. I took the up front sites and the view of the ships is worth the extra. I also noticed that Osprey Cove, the long term stay RV park, is...
The directions were accurate. The hardstand/full hook ups are shown as 10. However, two are taken by the host and asst. host, and six appear to be taken by those living there like a trailer park. That only leaves two and I was able to get the last one. The price is good but if you have to go to the 30 amp and water sites, you pay the same. The full hook up sites are close and there is...
The RV park is in a very quiet part of the air station. It is located very close to the salt water resulting in a salt film covering all vehicles. Washing of RVs and cars is allowed and highly suggested during your stay. It is also very windy there and several nights we had to put in the slides to protect the slide covers at the top. 20-30 mph winds are not uncommon and we even had winds in the...
The directions were right on -- don't try to use your GPS to find the campground because it can bring you in the wrong gate. If you attempt to use any other gate then you will experience lots of construction, lots of traffic and narrow roads. We did not experience any external damage to our coach from trees on Winans Rd. but I did go slow and moved to the center of the road. Winans Rd. has some holes...
Was able to get a full hookup. Easy to back in, level site, good location of hookups and plenty of room to park the coach and toad. The laundry facilities and bathroom were clean. Free cable and laundry was a plus. I would return again. Note; I asked the manager to put some maps at the Gowen Gate so that it would be easy to find the FamCamp. The gate guard did his best to give us directions but...
