This was our first trip to Corpus Christi and we enjoyed it very much. I'd called the Navy central reservation service and was told they had no availability but Outdoor Rec @ Corpus Christi said they did. We arrived with a reservation for a full service site for a few days and dry camping a few days. As it turned out there were cancellations and we were able to spend the entire week on the same site. ...
We've stayed at Lackland several times and it's always pleasant. When we arrived the office was closed so we checked in the following day. We used our coupon from the AF FamCamp program plus had the weekly rate so it saved us $40. There are a few long term campers as we have found at a lot of the military campgrounds in the South. It's hard to fill those places up during the late spring and...
If your goal is to be in West Texas, this is a great place to stay. Good value - $100 for a week. Check in and Outdoor Rec is in the PX. Close enough to Lake Amistad for day trip and the Visitors Center has lots of information and films to see. Not a lot to do in Del Rio but we had a recommendation from a local for Poncho's Restaurant - great Mexican food and very reasonable...
This is clearly the unwanted stepchild of Buckley AF Base. It has a lot of potential - concrete pads, grill & picnic tables at each site. Small bath and free laundry facility. They bought 2 high end washers & dryers with a ton of options - good for a household but not for a public facility. One washer was broken when we were there. Bathroom was clean other than the sinks - toothpaste remains but that's patron...
Nice small FamCamp. Good location if you're traveling on I-25. Interesting things to do in Cheyenne - try the trolley ride @ the old RR Depot. If you want a site open for satellite you'll be a bit crowded and you park with one rig headed in and one headed out so you'll have no private space outside. Good Commissary & PX facilities. Staff is friendly and efficient. They keep the facility clean and mowed....
This FamCap of 100+ sites has about 40 sites (West Side) with no electric. The power is off and they are beginning construction on the new 30 and 50 amp service this week. One employee said they hope to have full service finished by Labor Day. Also, they were limiting entrance to the South Gate (Exit 151 from I-25) as the bridge at the North Gate (Exit 156 from I-25) has some structural problems and they were limiting...
Hours for staff have been cut back. While we were there for a weekend the office wasn't open and we did the self check in. The prior comments still hold true - it's a good value for the area and lots to do around the city. I did notice one change - a new bath facility in the middle of the "parking lot." People were still working on it so I didn't go inside.
We spent a week @ the Travis FamCamp and had a great time. Mary checked us in and was very professional and pleasant. Tony parked us and kept the rig off the grass and the wood that marks the site limits. Enjoyed talking with Tony & Painter about the good old days. I understand Mary is a contractor for the FamCamp and Tony and Painter are volunteers. Mary & Tony have been managing the FamCamp for almost...
This is a great bargain @ $13/night. We stayed in the section with only W/E. Very private, lots of big trees (no sunlight gets through) and very peaceful setting. When we arrived no one was around so we took one of the sites available on the board and registered the following morning. Staff was helpful. Verizon cell phones and wi-fi worked well. No Direct tv - too many tall trees. Didn't use the showers/bathrooms. Laundry...
We landed here without reservations - bad mistake in the summer! We moved 3 times but the staff was very helpful in locating spaces for us to park our big rig. Lots of amenities on the joint bases (McChord & Lewis and don't forget Camp Murray) and a good place to play tourist from - Seattle, Tacoma, Mt. Ranier. Staff is pleasant and helpful with accommodations and suggestions for touring the area. MWR office has discount tickets for...
Great location if you like a quiet peaceful setting. We were tucked in under trees (lot of shade) with a view of the water (nice sunsets) and a breeze coming off the bay. There's a large recreation area - nice for families with room for kids to play and just a short walk from the campground. The employee at check in was very helpful and offered suggestions for museums. He also accommodated us receiving an overnight...
As always, this past week @ Eagle Hammock was perfect. We took one of the lake side sites and watched all the birds feeding and we even spotted the alligator doing his morning swim! The place was clean (as always) staff helpful and friendly. We know why they take the number 1 spot for military campgrounds.
