They had entertainment on certain nights, a disc jockey and karaoke, everyone had a blast. Then things changed, they got rid of the hosts and moved everything down to a building that was previously the gun range. They added more sites and continued to tighten the rules. No longer could you wait for a spot in Chevron park, if there were no spots you have to leave. The camping spaces they added were too small and not laid out well....
Major reconstruction going on here with all 35 overflow electric only sites shut down due to adding sewer and water. There are 33 new sites being constructed south of the campground office. There are 17 waiting in line to get into full hookups. Overflow into Chevron park has only 3 spaces allowed for a maximum of 48 hours only. If you do not get a spot after 48 hours you must leave the base. The worst is the muddy...
This is a great place to stay, easy off I-40 and easy to get to the camp site. The hosts, Steve & Audrey really go above and beyond the call of duty to make this place enjoyable. The first day we were there Steve came by and invited us to the Navajo Gourd Dance on Sunday. The dance was held at the old Indian Village on base and was really nice. We have been here for 10 days now. When we arrived we were placed in over flow with no hook ups. We stayed in over flow for 8 days and were moved to a 30 day full hook up (spot 3) next to the water front. We could have had a partial hook up site in 3-4 days. This is a very nice place to enjoy the warm Florida winter. Lots of activities to choose from on base and off....
We were very disappointed....surprised at the run down condition of this campground. Most of the spaces were taken by homesteaders that had built decks / porches and had their personal junk scattered all over the place. Very small spaces arranged haphazardly with long water hoses and sewer hoses needed to hook up. If you have a large motor home do not go here! The price has been increased to $12.50
