It has been a couple of years since I last stayed at Lake Elmer Thomas Recreation Area. I was disappointed to see condition the park was in. I was there on Monday thru Thursday. The office and all facilities are closed on Monday and Tuesday. $50.00 a night is a little pricey because no recreational activities being open and no wi-fi. I could not get a TV signal on antenna, and my Verizon cell phone service was weak. When I...
This is a small RV park, having 12 sites. The pads are level concrete, and the park is well maintained. The commissary, which is well stocked, and the exchange are located close by. The main gate is a tight fit for a class A motorhome.
When I arrived, I call the office to confirm my site number, but it was closed when I went to sign my rental agreement. The roads in the campground are narrow and most are one-way. My site was a concrete pad with a patio and level. It had a good view of the lake. The bath houses were clean but could use some updating. I was in a 39' motorhome and pulling a Jeep. When I left the campground, I...
Having been here before, I knew to ignore my GPS trying to get me to go to the commercial gate. The barriers at the main gate are easy to navigate, just take your time. I had made a reservation and was given my site assignment at that time. I was able to go straight to the FamCamp and get set up before going to the Outdoor Recreation Office to complete the registration. It had been five...
This now a privately owned and operated campground/recreation area. Navy Lake RV Park and Event Center, www.navylaketn.com.
Arrived at the campground and was met by Roxi, who told me to pick a vacant site and get set up. She was very polite and helpful, explaining the check in process and things to see in the area. During duty hours, you have to go to the MWR Recreation Center to complete the check in process. The sites are long level concrete and easy to back in to. The tall trees kept me from getting a satellite signal,...
It had been several years since we were at the Little Rock AFB Fam Camp and was in the area to watch our grandson play college basketball. Just did a drive-thru and saw a lot of construction taking place; more RV spaces and a new comfort station. The better pull thru sites and back-in sites were taken by "homesteaders". It looked like some of them had been there for years.
The location was perfect for me as I graduated from Altus High School and was there to attend my 50-year reunion. The FamCamp is small and was full. We had reservation and an assigned site number, so was able to go straight to the FamCamp. I got set up and then went to Outdoor Recreation. Their parking lot is not RV friendly. I’d suggest making a reservation or checking availability. The sites are back-in, but there is plenty of...
I was in the area and just drove thru to see if improvements had been made to the RV sites. It had been four or five years since I'd camped there and the sites were in need of upgrading then. The road to the RV sites was closed because of high water, but I could see the RV sites. From a distance, it did not appear there had been any improvements. The FEMA trailers were gone and it looked...
Very nice campground with a helpful camp host. We called the day before arrival and asked about availability. We were reminded they didn't take reservations, but there shouldn't be a problem and to come on. The park is well laid out, clean and maintained. The new exchange at Malstrom AFB is opening soon. As posted before, getting onto base can be a hassle. Waved right on thru the first time, but the next day...
When we arrived, was told they were not expecting anyone in that day. I showed Jerry an e-mail from Peggy confirming a site, things changed and I was welcomed with open arms. Found everything to be very clean and well maintained. There seemed to be several (about half the sites) occupied by long term visitors. The exchange and commissary were well stocked and an easy drive. My only criticism, MWR nor the camp hosts have...
This campground is remote and basically quite. Artillery impacts can be heard and an occasional convoy does go by. The rest rooms, showers and laundry room are cleaned daily. I've stay at LETRA many times and this is the first time my reservations were not accurate. The camp host was not real helpful in correcting the mix up. The recreational facilities are open 9 to 5 and closed on Monday & Tuesday. The campground...
