Shaw AFB is actually about 45 minutes away in Columbia. Wateree is right on the lake, about 20-30 minutes outside of Camden. Though there are several signs that the area is only for military access, local townsfolk came and used the beach and bathrooms frequently. Staff was lovely, though they could not keep up with the whole park, the bathrooms were not cleaned very often, and the park was in a state of disrepair. The entire time we were there,...
Right on the lake, some spots are "premium lake spots" but the regular spots still have great access. Lots of trees, but Starlink access still did ok. Concrete pads were mostly level. Bathhouses were impeccably clean, but only open 0530-2100. Two bathhouses, one on either side of the park, and porta potties in the middle. Laundry was on the more expensive side, but lots of washers and dryers so there was hardly a wait. Base amenities: gym, commissary/exchange, Texas...
Right on the lake, we walked from our spot to the water. Great for paddleboarding or renting a boat from the MWR. Had some issues with a steady Starlink connection with all the trees, but camp wifi was solid. Trees provided great shade in the hot months. All spots were concrete and mostly level. Tent area does not have power or water. In the lower loop, spots are kind of on top of each other, but the upper loop has...
Technically this is adjacent to the base, but you have to drive out and around to get to the gate, which took about 10 minutes. Park was very quiet except the constant stream of aircraft in and out. Bathhouses were clean and well kept, though one of the shower stalls had a window in it that did not have a curtain and was not frosted, which made me a uncomfortable. Laundry room had 4 washers and 4 dryers. Office staff...
Small park, very few trees so Florida heat is excruciating. Bathhouse has several toilet stalls and shower stalls, as well as a laundry room. Bathhouse is not air conditioned and was extremely hot. Laundry is free though. Spots are somewhat close together. Base amenities include gym, commissary/exchange, auto skills shop, pool, river access, golf course. Auto skills shop had several lift bays, but was very busy on weekends, so arrive early if you need to do maintenance. Fairly quiet park,...
If you're trying to do things in the Jacksonville area, Mayport is further away, but not too far. Osprey Cove has lots of trees, which helps with the Florida heat, but also brings mosquitos. Bathhouse has 2 separate rooms, each with a toilet and large shower, a laundry room with 4 washers and 4 dryers, and an enclosed patio area with games, movies, and tables. However, the bathhouse is not air conditioned, so it gets musty and hot. Laundry is...
Almost no trees, so the sun beats down hard, be wary of that during hot months. One of the baseball fields was converted to a dog park right next to the campground. It was well maintained with minimal poops that were not picked up, grass wasn't too tall and few holes. Bathhouse close to the dog park was well maintained, 6 individual rooms with a toilet and shower in each. Bathhouse also had a laundry room, but we used the...
