This is closer to the price we should be paying for a CG. When compared to others with the same "amenities" the only thing this lacks is sewer hookup. Of the over 50 military sites we've visited, there are a few that are still priced according to what is offered. Here there is beautiful lake, laundry/shower facility, and a nearby commissary and BX. My kids kept busy fishing and riding scooters around, and being close to St.Loius was perfect; Gateway...

Thank goodness this base was close to many sightseeing opportunities. Because, with its price, it doesn't offer what many other have. There is basically a laundry/shower room. The lake and playground are a bit far away to let younger kids go unattended, and other than that, there isn't much else to do. The roads are great, and sites are level, and the utility placements are perfect. I just think for what there is at the actual RV park there should...

The hosts were awesome! The new shower/laundry/rec room is excellent. The layout of the CG is good and sites are level, and utilities well placed. The kids had fun at the free pool (just outside the CG gate), and this was a great stay for the few nights we needed to catch our breath and catch up on "housekeeping." Loved the pot-luck BBQ, and free fire wood. Would definitely stay again.

The location is so very close for doing things around Boston, but it's a bit of a drive out of the park to get onto the base proper to the commissary. Although there is no playground, there are woods nearby and concrete roads (and bikes provided by the CG) so the kids mostly had fun. Many sites are strangely arranged, and many with 50 AMP are in direct, all-day-long, sun. The laundry room is clean and not too pricey, and...

A bit "out of the way" to be a base camp for sightseeing, this campground IS a lovely vacation spot. There was so much to do right at the CG and the community lodge is great for kids and adults. The staff is very helpful and accommodating. We had been assigned a site with overhanging branches, and they moved us w/o a fuss. The CG is easy to maneuver, but many sites are for smaller rigs. I do feel it...

LOTS for kids to do - fishing, swimming, boating/canoeing, a playground, and plenty to explore. Yes, the hill into the place gave me a "scare" but, having no one to follow in the toad (I'm the only driver over 16) I HAD to do it, and I DID! I think I'm gonna hate going down more than the up, though. We had a wonderful stay, and I cannot say much more than the others, except that it's VERY crowded...

Yes, the hookups are in strange places, but not so bad it can't be done. The pads are narrow (but level) and the E boxes/W faucets can get in the way of slides, and if you opt to be close to the W/E, plan to crawl under the RV to hookup sewer, as they are in the center of the pads. There is enough length to back to the edge of the drain, then the hoses and cords all need...

GETTING ON BASE; USE THE MAIN GATE off Hwy 1 !!!! Not the North Gate, and NOT the Commercial Gate. Really!! The MPs said it's been that way for a year now. We have a 35 ftr (and towing) and it's no problem - Easy on, Easy off. Yes, this IS a CG at the end of a runway but, we've been at WAY busier/noisier ones, and at least there weren't any trains nearby! The first three sites (1-3)...

I agree with ALL the other comments! It's nice for its solitude, the cleanliness of the bath house and other facilities, and its close proximity to D.C. and the Metro line. It's not so nice because most sites are uneven, all are graveled (not well), the CG roads are dirt/gravel (chunky and rough) and the electric only section is full of old, moldy campers. Because of the low rate (thankfully) I would stay here again, because the positives more then...

VERY poor layout in this CG, E/W/S in strange places! Very narrow and short pads, trash and showers/laundry at far end of CG - not an easy/quick walk (but clean). There is a small community room with a fooseball table, computer hookups, and magazines, but that's about it. No playground, no recycling, no commissary. However, this is a fast overnighter off I95, (although expensive for what's available), and nearby are George Washington's BirthPlace NHS, and Fredericksburg NB.

What a convenient spot for discovering our Nation´s beginnings! Also for visits to VA Beach and other sites. Like the previous reviewer, I agree; Ft. Monroe´s history is great (make sure you check out the Casemate Museum!), and it´s sad it´s closing. As for the Camp: Ft. Monroe is easy to find and get on/off, the sites are level and easy to maneuver, although somewhat narrow. There are numerous close play-areas (my kids had a blast), and the...

After reading the reviews, and hearing great things from a fellow camper while in FL, I couldn't wait to visit. It was rainy when we arrived and the gravel/dirt roads (and narrow pads) were aggravating. Many hookups were in very strange placements, as were the 'patios' for the sites, often times not matching where the RVs' doors were. And, since there were so many homesteaders, summer may be a hard pressed time for a free space, since no reservations can...

Since we're from Melbourne, this is a very convenient place for us. The great playground and beaches nearby are a big plus for the kids, and the commissary is great, as the BX is sufficient. With a theatre, library, and youth center on base, it's also great for long stays. The staff at the CG are SOOOO great; we had some issues with another camper and they looked out for the kids and I. However, I can see how many...

Like my previous review, not much has changed, except that now they're even allowing homesteading in the "14-day-stay" sites. Outdoor Rec states that "command" would rather have people paying all the time than meet the needs of campers for the two months a year they pass through (in spring and fall). Perhaps if more people could count on a spot (either by reservations or at least having rotating spots) more would stop. I plan to write a letter to the...

VERY neat, clean park with plenty of sites; all level and with great hook ups. All staff and hosts are very friendly and accomodating. Vehicle washing on site allowed (YAY), and a good selection of organic at the Comm. The base is well laid-out, and very tidy as well. Although no recycling is in the CG, the manager said they are trying to get some. Meanwhile, there is a huge recycling center on base that takes everything, even old furniture...

As with all other reviewers, it is VERY convenient/close to highway exits. Hard to rate cleanliness as there is only a barren campground, no showers or 'rec' room, etc. AS AN ADDED NOTE OR TWO: the gas station does fit the big rigs (mine is 35 ft and towing) and gas was easily 5-8 cents a gallon cheaper than any nearby - AND, I stopped at the dining hall, which allows retirees, grandkids, non-uniformed, etc and it's decent and inexpensive....
