Stayed in early February for 5 nights. The park is simple, though a bit odd in that there are multiple sites that require all left-side trailer utilities to be strung over to the right side in order to connect to the facility connections. Clearly, poor planning/design. The stay was very pleasant and I found that the park's two combined restroom/shower rooms were nicer than most parks. You do get the sound of freedom flying over most of the day given that it is a Navy pilot training base, but when inside your trailer it can be quite tolerable. The odd thing was trying to figure out the base's daily bugle calls... they varied from day to day as to what time they were played! The RV park is right next door to the base gym and the very spacious outdoor heated pool -- a wonderful place to relax! The Club was also very nice, though not heavily used. However, the staff was tops and they put on some nice evening events during the week. All in all, I would certainly stay at the park again if in the area. It is hard to beat all the pluses offered at the very fair daily price!

The rv park has improved much over the last visit 12 years ago, BUT! could be so much better if someone with some RV savvy had laid it out. The way it is everything is wrong when it comes to hook up and there is no reason it could not have been laid out the way it should have been, there is plenty of room and very level. I am enjoying my stay here the folks in the outdoor recreation are great. They had nothing to do with the park layout. You will find no cheaper rates then what they have here. They do have to many site that they are renting out to GI station here as far as I'm concerned. The RV park should be for folks traveling or spending a few months in the area. Here they are trying to make it a paying concern and renting out trailer left over from Hurricane Cantrina to GI's that are station here. That is the purpose of "Trailer Parks" and should not be a part of MWR.

The new sites are almost complete. They are in the final stages of installing the sewer hook up and paving the roads. It's a bit of a mess now because they had a lot of rain right in the middle of laying down the road sub surface and its muddy. All will be finished soon and it will be quite nice. The parking is strange...you have to parallel park in many. The Commissary and PX are small but adequate. The base gas station is accessible and cheaper than town. Strong Wifi. Free ice. There is a Lowes and Walmart in town and a great Chinese buffet that even includes steaks! Office guys are great and most helpful. For those traveling to/from Mexico, this is a good staging area since Brownsville is only 2 hours away. We'll be back.

They are full right now, put us in overflow with water and electric. They now have sewer at all the sites. Yesterday they started laying out 12 new sites. This will double the size of the campground. They also have wifi.

Honestly, just did a drive by on the campground while on the way down to South Padre Island. The campground is small arranged in a circle and located behind the Auto Hobby shop. It looked neat and well kept. Bathroom/Shower was located right on the edge of the circle and, while I didnt check out the inside, looked well kept from the outside. The grounds were neat and well kept with no trash or high weeds. There are no trees in the campground, but there are picnic table shelters at each site with newer looking tables. There is a small NEX and Commissary nearby with a gas station. NAS Kingsville is a small base located pretty much out in the middle of nowhere. Might be worth a stop if you were headed down to the Texas Vally. Hope this helps. Dave
