We enjoyed our stay here and found the laundry room and restroom cleanliness have improved since past reviews. We did find the coin machine out of order in the laundry room and one washer not working properly. The trash dumpster was not overflowing and was in good order. You will never see anyone from MWR or a camp host but that is fine. The RV gate coordinates on this listing took us right to the original entrance to the installation. Some updates to info listed above for this campground - The "manned" front gate has moved to just before the traffic circle mentioned in the directions above. Also, at the traffic circle you want the SECOND right/exit onto 3rd BN Pond Drive. The other directions above are correct. Here are the exact GPS coordinates for the campground - N32.32673, W080.69725. Also, when you call for a reservation and get one they ask you to call back about a week before arrival so they can bill your credit card. And, they no longer use the lock boxes in the laundry room/restroom building. You just go to your site and the utilities are not locked. You will be given codes for the laundry room and restrooms although the doors were not locked when we were there. Lastly, in the this era of Covid, we were told to stay away from the commissary and exchange area until after 3:30 p.m. on Fridays due to graduation and if we went off base before then we would not be able to get back on until after 3:30 p.m. Here are a few things we like to do in this area. Hunting Island State Park is not far away and has some good kayaking/canoeing on the lagoon plus bike trails, a lighthouse, etc. The farmer's market in Port Royal (1615 Ribaut Road) every Sat morning 9-12 is good. Bike riding is good right from the campground to the left (as you face the road from your campsite) down to the water and around a circle) and also to the right from your campsite, then first right out to the golf course and back (there is a boardwalk and some historic stuff off the left side of the golf course parking lot). And in Port Royal there is a great rails to trails paved path (10 miles) called the Spanish Moss Trail - access at Depot Road (just put Depot Road, Port Royal in your GPS and follow it to the end) or access at 921 Ribaut Rd (Tech College of Low Country).

Very nice famcamp! Everything within a mile or so. VN golf course on base (Legends), big family park right up the road on the water, large BX & Commissary, main base, PI Marine museum and parade deck within a mile or so. On Saturday over 1000 recruits came by right in front of the RV's in various stages of training. Started passing around 0500 hrs. Quite a show and very obvious the Drill Instructors were in charge. It was great and reminds you that you are visiting a U.S. Marine Corps boot camp. Most Fridays there are graduations on the parade deck. A lot of whitetail deer in the camp area. Even as they have not yet installed the wi-fi or cable we were fine and at times got 29 channels on regular TV with MH antenna. We did not get any ATT cell phone service at the campsite but did right up the road at the park. Had a great time!

What a beautiful little place.  Only 18 sites, but everything was great.  Sites were level crushed rock and two pads.  One with the new table on it and one for a patio.  Power and water pressure checked out good and sewer was right along side the power pole.  Great area to explore history if you travel to the golf course where the Spanish and French Occupation took place in the 1500's.  Showers were large in the bathrooms which were old but very clean.  Laundry was also dated but clean with 2 washer/dryers at $1.00 a load.   This is South Carolina, so bring bug spray for mosquitos and biting flies.  I only marked down hospitality due to no camp host or anyone to represent the Famcamp.  We did not get to the main base, but shopped at the commissary/exchange that was minutes down the road.  There is still a lot to do for our next trip which we will make.  Directions to the famcamp seem strange, but with your co-pilot reading and watching also; no problem.  There is no cable, so bring movies or a satellite for entertainment.  You can also rent movies at the red box at the exchange, just minutes down the road.  My complements to the base.  We took this trip on, not knowing anything about the base or facilities.  It was a great decision and we will return.

This is a very nice park with full hookups, all sites are back in, nice laundry and restrooms. I was very surprised that they allow active duty members to live in the RV park, no wonder it took us so long to get a reservation. We totally understand this is a military training base/boot camp but if you like to sleep in you better be prepared to be woke up to drill instructors screaming at recruits as they march or run past the park. Overall a nice park which is close to Beaufort and lots of dining and shopping. We found the closest propane to be Tractor Supply.

J.L. left this review using the Directory software: - Stayed here briefly last year and so loved walking along the salt marsh and beach that I wanted to return and stay longer. Only this year, I really felt the negative impact of some of the management issues. The lock box seems to be corroding with age and causing problems. I had trouble opening my assigned box, and also tried in vain to help others who were totally unsuccessful in opening theirs after hours (so never had utilities). There is no welcome packet in the box, just a key, so you're left to figure things out yourself. The combination to the restroom and laundry is posted on the wall (so why bother?). The facilities seem to be cleaned only on Monday, and although 3 extra rolls of toilet paper were left, this is hardly enough for the week. The manager does not return calls in a tmely fashion. It was almost a week before she called me back, and some calling about a site the same day never heard if one is available (and many sites were open). The manager's response, when you do talk with her, suggests that reservations are very tight, but it was never more than half occupied when I was here (5 nights). It's such a lovely location and decent facilities. With very little extra effort, it could be a real plus. At a minimum, 1) service or update the lock box facility 2) leave welcome sheets in the box and not posted, and 3) consider instead having an on-site host and non-site specific reservations. That could permit more campers to make use of the facility, increase revenue, and make eveyone feel more welcomed and oriented to the facility.

First time here and the sites are huge so if we fit anyone can fit. Water pressure is good and electricity for a 50AMP RV is great. Do not use laundry and bathhouse but checked them visually and all is neat and clean. Even have a water dispenser you can use for a charge if you need to fill jugs etc. About 75% full for this time of year as most RV'ers go further south. First AM saw all female recruits with full gear marching down to the beach and as you drive around the base these new recruits are looking younger all the time or are we just getting older, hmmmm. Commissary and MEX are larger than expected and fuel price on base is the best we found in the area. There is so much to do and see in this area as we have not been in the area before it will take us two weeks to do it all and that may not be long enough. We certainly would come back here as $15.00 for this fantastic site is about the best price we have paid at any military campground. The only problem I had was the key to access the pedestal for utilities was in a locked box with a combination lock and it would not open after 3 tries. Fortunately someone who visits family assigned to the base was there and had been here many times and opened it for me as it was a tricky procedure.

A tiny RV park on the Marine Recruit Depot that is utilized primarily for families of graduating recruits. It is a no-host camp, so if you are into social life with fellow campers this is not for you. But we loved it. You can see recruits in maneuvers and watch a graduation on Fridays. BX and Commissary are fine, and Port Royal and Beaufort have everything else you need, including fine restaurants. The remoteness is either a positive or a negative, depending on your preferences. We loved it.

I was here in Jun 2016 and it was enjoyable. After this past weekend, I will have second thoughts about spending my time and money here. Following the above directions and a phone call with Cheryl the day before arriving, I was greeted with a total surprise. I called the same number to check-in and no one answered. I tried several times and all I ever got was that their mailbox was full and to leave a message. Instead of that, I called MWR. Maybe they didn't know the line was out. There was no answer here, and I got the same message. Since I can not get codes for the restroom/showers, laundry room or their wifi, I figured I would go find them. I had no map so I went down the street to the Golf Pro Shop. The two attendants had no idea what I was talking about when I mentioned Outdoor Recreation Center or MWR. The lady attempted to use her computer to get me an address, but she was very lost. I got an address from her, but I could not locate it. It was some type of Headquarters building. When all this failed, I returned to bldg. 1018 and found the "cubbies". Maybe my information was in there. The cubbies are like a post office box, but again, I had no code for this either. When I pulled on it, the large door came open for access to all the cubbies. It was obvious from then spider webs and dust that these have not been used in a long time. I'm glad that my guests had to cancel their trip. This would have not been the example I set for them when we planned the trip.

What's not to like? Other than check-in of course. Check-in is at the ITT office in the Marine Corps Exchange and the parking lot IS NOT big-rig friendly. Our advice would be to go to the campground and park your rig in your assigned space. You can set up except for water and electric and go to the MCX in the toad or puller to check in and get your keys. I talked to the manager and he said they are trying hard to come up with a better way of doing it. This campground is the old base trailer park and therefore the parking spaces are massive (100' deep and 55' wide). They could be considered handicap access spaces because the gravel all around makes wheelchair movement possible. Each space has an aluminum picnic table, concrete pad, electric, water, sewer hookups (and we understand cable TV is in the works--which is good because TV out of Savannah and Charleston is a bit iffy). Each site has a choice of 50/30/20 amps. Our Verizon cell coverage was minimal and the Internet card gave us a slow but workable access. The community building has new handicap access showers and bathrooms as well as a laundry room (2 washers, 2 dryers at $1 each). If you are up at 4 a.m. most mornings you can see recruits marching by enroute to the Crucible or other field training. Less than a mile from the picnic area called Elliot's Beach where there are tables and pavilions as well as a boat launch and field toilets. Stay away from the Marine Corps Exchange on Thursday and Friday when it is over-run by new Marines and their families. Recruit graduation is almost every Friday at 9 a.m. on the Peatross Parade Ground. The museum is well worth the visit. And if you are a history or naval services nut like us, there are the remains of a wooden dry-dock in the park across from the Commanding General's residence. They are planning to build cabins in the near future and then expand the campground.

Since this campground opened two years ago they have steadily improved the experience for visitors. First, they have resolved the need to drive your RV into the Marine Corps Exchange parking lot to get your keys. You call on the day of your arrival and they give you the combination to a lock box that has your keys in it. They also have a date for WIFI to be put in--Jan. 25, 2012. You see deer and recruits walking through the area all of the time. Early (like 4 a.m.) on some mornings you awaken to the shuffle of hundreds of booted feet as recruits who have completed the 3-day crucible are on their way to a Warrior Breakfast and their Eagle, Globe and Anchor ceremony. Thursday through Sunday this place is packed with friends and relatives of graduating recruits but otherwise it is mostly empty. They need a campground host. These lots are so big you could park a 40 foot rig sideways. Plenty of room between pads. Cell service is a little spotty but 3G for the internet was solid. We got 21 over the air TV stations including NBC, CBS, ABC, PBS and Fox. Great price, super, spotless facilities, It don't get much better than this.

Great RV park all around, PX, Commissary, Golf Club all within five minutes. Loved listening to the privates going by in the early mornings on Fridays and Saturdays, and the sound of the rifle ranges throughout the week. Very clean facilities. Had a bit of problem with Verizon WiFi but phone worked real well. The only problem I experienced is the fact that there hardly any food facilities open during the evenings so therefore yo have to go outside the gate. The only place open until 2200 is the Subway at the bowling alley and sometimes they do close early depending on business. Will definitely return.

We stayed here for just three nights because that is all they could accommodate us for. We had a nice level site with FHUs. As early risers, we had fun watching newbie Marines march past the campground ... sure they made quite a ruckus, but that was half the fun. We triked all over the base; including to the commissary and base exchange. The small museum on the grounds is worth a stop. It is a bit of drive to get into town. Rated the amenities/facilities as three stars since we did not use them. Would definitely stay there again.

Contacted Arlene for reservations. She went beyond the standard and squeezed us in for 3 days between previous reservations. The park is small but clean and neat. Extremely quiet, just right for relaxing. NO cable but the MCX has REDBOX for movie rental. Cell phone service is iffy. The MCX and commissary facilities are very good. The addition of cable TV would be a great improvement. I would definitely stay here again.

Check in was not bad, but parking in the main exchange parking lot was challenging at best with a 5th wheel. Fellow neighbor active duty camper, would open door and let his pit bull out to relive him self at any time day or night. Informed ITT the next day. Elane was vary helpful, was told to call Jeff Odom Outdoor manager. Came out next day and showed him. He was moved down two sites, and continued again letting his dog out. On site supervision is a must. I pointed out several short falls, that would make the camp ground form a fair camp ground. To what is accepted by active, reserve, retied and 100% disabled, a quality military camp ground. Like, Kings Bay, Pelicans Roost, and Short Stay too say a few of many. Don't get me wrong, I take my hat off for Parris Island being one of the first to have graduating students parents to say here. I hope Fort Jackson is watching. The showers were clean and roomy. Here is what I discussed, No camp host, no handicap sites, no internet, no cable, no dog walk, no cell phone reception, no dumpster locations and signs, no golden access, no late arrives cheek in procedure, no storage of campers, no prime camp sites assignment. I am cautiously hopeful that the command will try to make there camp ground up to accepted standards, as they have their golf course. As most of the retirees, reserve, 100% disabled do not play golf.

This rv park is trashy and I just came from 29 Palms, CA. The base should be ashamed of the lack of care at this rv park. The sites are decent, but the facilities are disgusting. There are dead bugs, spider webs, spiders and trash over flowing in the laundry room. The bathrooms are just as bad and not worth attempting to use. It looks like it has been months since someone came here to clean the facilities. The dumpster area is full of bulk trash that hasn’t been cleaned up. Sadly, this is the only area to stay if going through or stationed at PI. However, I’m grateful to have full hook ups so I can utilize my rv.

I'm glad the commissary was closed since we had to pick up the key at ITT. We could not have parked our 40' 5th wheel if the parking lot had been full. They need a different way of checking in and someone to police the area or make rules for pets. The camper 3 sites from us had dogs left alone without air conditioning or windows opened and barked the whole time we were there. We were planning on staying two weeks but left because we could not ride our motorcycle on base unless we took their safety course. It would take months to get a slot for the course. I didn't understand why we couldn't get a temporary pass for the two weeks, but this is something I need to take up with the Commander. I just mention it here so others will not be surprised when they can't ride a motorcycle on the base. The campground was clean and so were the bathrooms and laundry. But because of the motorcycle problem and management of the campgrounds we will not stay here again.

The weather in the Carolina’s during October and November is usually very pleasant so we planned our autumn trip to the Carolina’s and Virginia for this period. Our first stop was Parris Island. We stayed at the PI RV Park for seven days with the intention of playing tourist in the local area. It rained for the first six days of our stay which put a damper on our tourist plans. However, the weather was absolutely gorgeous on our last day and we took advantage of it by visiting downtown Beaufort – what a wonderful experience. Now about the PI RV Park. As stated in other reviews, the RV Park is located in an isolated area near Elliot’s Beach (which is really not a beach, it is a picnic area and a site for Marine recruit Land Navigation training). The RV Park provides an excellent location for the families that come to attend the three days of family activities associated with recruit graduation. We give the Marine Corps a big kudo for providing such a place for friends and families of our Marines. A visitor should plan for a means-of-transportation to and from the main side if they are here for the graduation. We did not lack for any amenities at the RV Park during our stay. All of the 18 sites are back-ins with full hookups. There is plenty of space around the sites which will accommodate the largest of RV’s. The lack of shade on the sites during the “hot and humid” summer months may create an uncomfortable situation. We went for super-enjoyable long walks in between the rain showers. The downside with the walks is you have to walk on the road; there are no sidewalks or hiking trails that we know of. During our stay there was not very much traffic so it didn’t distract from getting out there and enjoying the outdoors. We highly recommend that you wear bright clothing while walking on the road. It is very easy to blend in with the shady landscape and become invisible to the automobile traffic. If we could make one recommendation, it would be: install street lights in the park. Overall, we really enjoyed our stay and look forward to returning.

We tried to make a reservation for a short stay at Parris Island. We were told the electricity is out at the RV Park and the entire electrical system will be replaced during the summer months. We could still stay at the park but would have to use our generator for electricity. Hope this info helps others with their trip planning.

Tried to make reservations today, 7 Jul 17 but also told the campground was without power. The power has been out since September of 2016 because of Hurricane Matthew. The office personnel advised they were expecting repairs to begin in the middle or late July 2017 but if you were in the campground using generator power you would still have to vacate the campground when repairs began and they would give you a refund. They advised they were in limbo and had no exact dates when repairs would begin. Semper Fi

A great place to stay with appreciated automatic morning reveille at 07:00. Would have liked it better if the Marines would wake me at 05:15 though. Great and very clean base for America's best young folks. Enjoyed the quite surroundings and great sunrises. Friendly check in at the exchange where they issue you a key to unlock the water and power outlet. Wash room was spotless and very warm. Extremely quite area with beautiful drive to the RV area. This is an area that should be much busier with activities although the Holiday season was in full swing. Beautifully new base housing is impressive to see. Enjoyed our stay there very much and was too short.
