This is an outstanding Campground/Facility. It is right next to the beach, it has everything that attracts most campers. Full Hookups (including 50 AMP) and the only thing it lacks is a good Mart to purchase food/groceries. There is a MCX Mart but you can thing of it as a high end 7/11. Definitely nice but not the type of place you can get groceries for cooking if you are staying say, a week (hence my four starts on Amenities/Facilities). Having said that, you can find anything your heart desires by driving seven miles Nortwest to the main complex, and by anything I mean ANYTHING! Just as I read in the comments, service at the reservation office appears to find its balance by swinging from one extreme to the other and it is hit or miss. When we checked in on Saturday, the reception could not have been more helpful, pleasant and professional. My immediate thought was, "it seems they likely addressed the customer service "opportunities" here. Overall it was a wonderful and outstanding experience. We've liked it here so much that we went to the office this morning looking to book, with our fingers crossed, another week at a later time next month. The lady at the desk could not possibly have been more unwilling to help. She dismissed us right away by saying "everything is booked through November" which could very well be the true and the one question she is asked every fifteen minutes. Had she faked looking at her system for cancelations (we hadn't even provided dates to her yet), I would have been perfectly cool with it yet she did not. She spent more time dismissing our inquiry than would have taken her to look and see if there was anything available, even after I told her that the very reservation we are currently enjoying was booked a short three weeks ago. Classic Customer Service 101 that seemed unattainable today. We'll go back tomorrow in hopes that the pendulum swings in the other direction and some one at least "fakes" looking for availability. This place is simply Outstanding.

This was our first time at Onslow and we were NOT disappointed. We drove down from Maryland for an extended 2021 Memorial Weekend Vacation. From check in to check out this location was perfect and the grounds were well kept (and this is coming from a retired Air Force family). The services were amazing and the location to ocean was the best. The staff were professional and courteous. We have a 25ft travel trailer, and I booked last minute so we stayed in the circular area campsites. The site was great but a little small (if I had something to critique), but perfect for popups and tents. When we visit next time, and we will visit again, I will try for one of the bigger sites.

Our 2nd time at Onslow. We had numerous issues last years visit. Not one problem this time. Check in was a breeze, we were able to select between 3 available sites. Everything was very smooth this time around. Staff friendly and answered any of our questions. COVID precautions throughout the base. Most all beach cottages and pavilions have been rebuilt since our last trip. The sand dunes also have been replanted. The campground was full the whole time (3 weeks) we were there. Only thing different from the above description, is there no longer is any WiFi in the RV park. Excellent visit and planning on returning in the Spring, hopefully for a month.

Another great stay, clean bathhouse, clean campsite. Great people working in the front office. Hope the COVID-19 doesn't close this campground down again, my family and I look forward to returning later this summer. Stay safe and healthy. RLMcDaniel

The camping area at Onslow Beach is still available and in excellent condition.Unfortunately, while we were staying in a Cabana in September of 2018, we were forced to evacuate due to Hurricane Florence, which produced major damage to most of the lodging units. The three-bedroom Ospreys, the ocean front Studio Cabanas, and the units reserved for higher ranking officers and enlisted were all rendered uninhabitable. At this time, the only units that are still available are the lodges. They are $56/night from November 1st through March 31st and $70/night (with a three night minimum)from April 1st through October 31st. Here is the information their web site provides about the lodges: Conveniently located on the second row of the island and just a short walk to the ocean! All lodges include a living room, full kitchen, master bedroom with a queen size bed, 1 bath and a loft area. All lodging units are fully furnished to include kitchenware. Please bring your own air mattress or sleeping bags if you will be using the loft area (extra linen is provided). Lodges can accommodate 2 - 4 if using loft area. Smoking is prohibited in MCCS facilities. Pet friendly units are available at an additional daily charge.

My wife and I enjoyed our stay(2nd time here this year). We had RV site #12. The Campground and bath house were very clean. A short walk to the beach and mini MCX. Courteous and Professional staff at the reservation office. We look forward to returning in the near future. We stayed July 15-18. RLMcDaniel

First time here at Onslow Beach. Great location ,you can't beat the great beach access. My family and I enjoyed our stay. We were at RV pad 24, we also enjoyed seeing the boats going up and down the Intercoastal Water Way. Only small complaint, the grass needed to be cut. We look forward to returning in the near future. rlmcdaniel

We have been RVing for the past 3 years. We have visited every state except Kansas and have tried to stay in military campground whenever possible (we have been to dozens). I try to leave reviews so others can know about the RV parks. Most every park have been adequate to excellent. Never left a ‘less than ok’ review, until now. The good~ location, location, location! We tried to confirm the RV Park location at the gate, “no idea”. The directions on this page say to get in the left lane to turn onto Snead Ferry Road. It is a RIGHT turn. Do not go left! Check in was not smooth. I made reservations 2 months in advanced. I was told twice that we pass the Mini Mart and just choose a site. Then, let the office know what site we chose. Never heard of this before, so had the gal confirm that we are not assigned a site. So, we get to check in and they say that info is not correct and they don’t know who gave us that info. I told her the site we wanted and she said we couldn’t have it, there was someone in the site. (nobody on site).I asked which site we were assigned. Her reply “you aren’t assigned a site” What???? She had just said hey have everyone assigned and we couldn’t take the site we chose..confused. Asked to speak to a manager. That person tells us we weren’t supposed to check in for another couple weeks. Umm, have the email confirmation in hand with our dates. That got straighten out and the manager tells us our chosen site is fine, that nobody was on that site. I told the check in gal that we couldn’t get WIFI. The site had said free WIFI. She informs me that the WIFI is available (during business hours) in the office and very spotty in the RV areas. ‘Spotty’ is a generous description. It was pretty much nonexistent. I then told her the cable wasn’t working either. “ Oh, you want cable? You need a box from us for that”. They have a few papers available in slots on the wall, but give you no check-in booklet, as most military camps do. I asked the check in gal where the Commissary was located. “About 15-20 minutes from here, near the Exchange”. I told her we had never been here before and didn’t know where that was. Her reply, “oh”. The supervisor was friendly and thinking she has to deal with issues frequently. I almost felt badly for her. Another camper was in the office saying his site couldn’t get 50amp. The office gal said that some sites are not getting the 50amp and there wasn’t anything they could do about it. They would let maintenance know about their issue. The sites. Lawns (weeds) overgrown and not really neat, kept up sites. Your water hook- up is in the adjoining site, next to your neighbor’s picnic table. Some sites have a cement pad under the tables, others don’t. Sites are sandy gravel and weeds. There are one set of dumpsters at the end of the road. A dog in a site across from us barked pretty much nonstop during our stay. The cable worked fine with their equipment (that you need to ask for). No channel guide given at check in, so had to go through a 100 channels finding the ones we wanted to watch. The bathrooms/laundry require a key card to enter. Those keys need to be returned at check out. The bath house and laundry are adequate. Woman’s bath house has 4 showers, 3 did not turn on, one worked. The air conditioner unit (I think that is what it was) over the sink area had a significant leak and good size puddle on the floor. The laundry has several washers and dryers. $2.00 for wash, $1.50 for dryer. One thing to note. The $2 washers you must put 2 quarters in each slot. Not put $1 worth in and then the 2nd $ worth of quarters in. The location is picture perfect and you can hear the ocean. The price is higher than most every military campground we have visited in the past and doesn’t offer much except nice location. Sorry for all the negativity, but this was not at all what we have become accustomed to with military campgrounds. If they fix some of the issue , the location would make this a perfect campground.

Onslow Beach has reopened as of Dec 14, 2018; However the Osprey, Cabanas and rank beach houses (E9, O5, O6 and GO/FO) are NO LONGER available and the dry camping area is closed. Public beach access will be limited to the area extending from the EB Training area to Star Fish Pavilion. The beach has seen significant shifts, resulting in the potential for sharp drop offs just off the shoreline. www.mccslejeune-newriver.com/beach

Just thought I'd advise all that, due to damage by hurricane Florence the Onslow Beach is CLOSED until further notice: months back we had reserved for the end of Sept, but got a call earlier this week that the campground has been closed & will remain so until further notice. :-(

Onslow Beach – Camp Lejeune NC $32 a day RV site with cable/electric/water/sewer/WiFi Pros: + Location- sites are located on the Intercostal Waterway with a 5 min walk to the Atlantic Ocean + MCX shop on site for all your shopping needs (only open thur-sun) + Bathroom key cards for access (keeps bathrooms cleaner) + Temperature controlled bathhouses + Cabins/beachfront villas available for rent (we did not explore them so no feedback avail) + Sites are grass with a covered picnic table attached to each site + Handicap shower stall available + Laundry - $2 for wash $1.50 for dry + Trails throughout the base for biking/running + Glacier water refill station on site + Fenced in dog park Cons: - We loved it but others may not: Live fire ranges can be heard in the distance as well as LZ/DZ nearby - Pretty far distance from things other than the beach (which can be really nice but also can consume a fair amount of gas if you plan to do activities away from camp) - Several long term residents so it can be difficult to get a spot at times, but totally worth the wait - Though there is WiFi the signal is weak, unless you are in the laundry room where it is housed We really enjoyed our stay at this campground. It's a great spot for someone who loves fishing, lounging on the beach, going for beach hikes or wanting to see/hear military training.

We stayed at Onslow Beach on Camp Lejeune in one of the oceanfront cabanas. They are amazingly spacious studio units, with a comfortable king-sized bed, a kitchen at one end of the main room, and a separate bathroom with a shower. The unit comes supplied with linens, cooking and eating utensils, and an initial supply of toiletries and paper towels. The units we stayed in had a full kitchen with a small refrigerator and other large and small kitchen appliances, except a dishwasher, which we really didn't miss. Each unit also has a large deck overlooking the ocean. The only thing we missed was someplace to store our clothes, but we worked that out by placing our open suitcase on the bench at the foot of our bed. The resort has three life-guarded beach areas, plus roving lifeguards that walk and drive up and down the beach all day long from Memorial Day through Labor Day. In addition to the usual beach activities, we enjoyed shelling and finding sharks' teeth. The staff were very friendly and helpful. We had a minor problem (a sticking entry door), which they fixed immediately, even though it was late on a Sunday afternoon. There is also a mini-mart right at the beach in case you forgot something or feel like having some ice cream or another snack. We are looking forward to staying in a cabana unit at the other end of the beach in September and October. We've been told they have a larger refrigerator, but are otherwise identical to the cabanas we stayed in. Onslow Beach also has other lodging units that sleep up to 6 people, but since we are a retired couple, the cabanas are perfect for us. This facility is a fantastic value, so needless to say, all of the lodging units are in high demand and it is important to reserve a place as soon as reservations can be made. If we can reserve a lodging unit, we plan to make Onslow Beach a yearly destination. We also plan to stay in the RV area of the facility.

We liked this campground because of its location. The Atlantic Coastal waterway and drawbridge is 100 yards in one direction and the Onslow Beach is the same distance in the other. Great location! The registration office staff are friendly and helpful and we had the pick of 1/2 dozen sites. They could be a little longer, but it was no real issue in our 40' motorhome. Another real plus is the NEX mini mart that is next door to the office. Don't think we have seen that anywhere but it is really nice to have that nearby. The wifi is poor so we were unable to connect. If you want a good signal, you have to go near the office to log on. The views and beach are great, the picnic shelters are a plus and this is a place that we will return to.

Another GREAT stay at Onslow campground! We hadn't stayed here since last October & noticed they've had some staff turnover in the office: the folks we dealt with were friendly & helpful. You REALLY need to be into "beach activities" in order to have a good time at the campground, since there really isn't a whole lot else to do there. The last evening of our stay the "OSPREYS" were flying low over the campground, so that was enjoyable. We spent an afternoon in Swansboro - thinking it might be an enjoyable time in a quaint little town - but left feeling a bit disappointed. The "Hibachi buffet" restaurant (located in the K-Mart plaza just off base) was very good & the fact we hit it on "Senior's Mondays" made it all the more enjoyable! :-) All in all, another good visit to Onslow campground: we'll be back in late September!!!

Another great visit to Onslow Beach including shark teeth hunting and walking ad bike riding on the beach.  Got to visit with grand nephew currently at school at Camp Johnson.  Only about 10 RVs while we were there.  We were moving up the coast and always stop here.
Very friendly at the office.  We accidentally left remote part of thermometer at table shelter and they offered to mail it to us. It can be tight backing in if campground is full.

Second time here this year. Although I've heard some complain of the price at $32 per night I'd suggest they go spend a week at pirateland or Ocean Lakes in Myrtle Beach and then compare the bang for the buck. The beach here is just as nice as a Myrtle Beach and much less crowded. The commissary and BX on base are large and we'll stocked. Some campsites are a little unlevel and it would be nice if they were cement rather than gravel but again, go spend a week at Myrtle Beach and pay their prices before you stay here and I'm sure you'll agree this place is a fantastic value. I'd highly recommend this to anyone who likes the beach at an affordable price. I'm confident you won't be disappointed.

I camp hosted here for three years and enjoyed it. I had not been back very often because I was put off with the $32 per night for an RV spot. While this still bothers me, I have been overwhelmed at the changes that have taken place here. The staff is incredibly friendly and helpful. And a lot has been done here to improve the facilities. They got rid of the officer, enlisted and staff NCO lodging sections and opened it up so that availability of facilities is more equitable. The beach areas have all been repainted and new colorful signage is everywhere. The office is new as is the MCX right beside it. We had guests who stayed in a lodge on the beach all of the appliances, counters, and furniture have been upgraded. Price is a bit high but the money has definitely been put into the rec area and it shows. Well done.

Overall this is a good spot. Great location, not to crowded - however, I do have a couple 'complaints'. When we made our reservations, we asked for a specific site. We were told it wouldn't be a problem because this time of year didn't have may RV'ers. When we arrived, The site we asked for was already taken - funny thing... every other site was open. There was no one else there. Pretty disappointed about that. Next, 32$ a night seemed a little high for a military base, but it was cheaper than staying out in town at a local RV park. The small PX that is right there on site has NO camping supplies - it has plenty of beer, hotdogs, chips and sand castle building supplies. You would think that they, MCCS would carry a small about of RV/Camping supplies for those unforeseen emergencies that we have from time to time. Beware that there is a contracted lawn service that is "up and moving" at 7:30 am on Saturday mornings (in the rain, none the less) Lastly the fresh water hook ups will be in your 'front yard' and the sewer lines are very far forward and uphill, so you'll need supplies to run your hose UP HILL to empty - plus your neighbors septic is also in your front yard. Its not terrible, but on experience, the hook ups are usually far enough back, that this isn't normally a concern. The only way to fix this issue was to basically have our trailer so far forward, that our hitch was almost in the road. I'm not trying to bash this place, it is a great location, they have clean showers and a decent laundry facility - I just want to bring attention to issues that we delt with on our trip.
