New part is NICE. I would call at least two weeks ahead and more if poss. If J-130s and choppers don't bother you, you will really like this place. If you just want to get away and see the water, Nice. Internet uptown at Muddy Waters (coffee shop) head to town turn right at light past school stay on that St. it will be on your left(at Main I think)

This is a nice campground on a small base with very limited amenities. You definitely want to get a campsite in the new section (sites 5-14)! The sites are new, level, with excellent reception potential for satellite. They have 3 very nice cabins right next to the water. You are right on the water and there is a small recreation area closeby. We are using this as a jump off point to explore the outerbanks area and to go to the Dixieland Speedway to watch the car races. Bring your bikes, your chairs and settle back to enjoy your time in the area. The staff person in the MWR/ITT office was very helpful in setting up our future reservations when we visited there in person before our intended stay. This is definitely a nice gem for people to check out!

Very nice new and clean campsite (if you get a site in the new section) with level cement pads and great hookups. Not many amenities on the base but that was ok. Two washers and dryers located in a small shed up by the check-in site. Only showers available are at the gym. Small PX but met all our needs. Had to go to town to get wi-fi reception but found a great coffee shop where the coffee was great and wi-fi reception was also (Think it was called Muddy Waters). Did learn that the city was totally wi-fi friendly and were able to get reception almost anywhere we went in town. Unfortunately, the base is apparently just outside the reception area. The reason for staying here was access to the outer banks and this was great. Great area with lots to do. Were there during bike week on the outer banks but did not have any problems getting around.

Sites are nicely landscaped and maintained. We had called in a reservation several days before arriving. However when we arrived on Saturday our name was not in the book. Checked in at the Gym as directed for weekend arrivals which was manned by a young watchstander who didn't have a clue. Not a big deal since we had paid by credit card over the phone. There is a nice beach within block of the "waterside" area. There is a Minimart within 3 long blocks. No bath house except for a small facility at the beach which was not very clean. In the late afternoon noticed that shore power at our site was out. There was no number to call so we ran the generator for a while until the 20 amp came back on in the early evening.

New section of campgound is very nice. Large back in only concrete pads. Large enough for any size RV.

The newer sites, 5-14, are really nice in the cooler weather - large, sunny, easy to set up satellite dish. Nice large level pads. Easy walk to the Country Store. Reservations is hard to contact on a weekend. I made several calls on a Saturday to inquire about coming in the next day, but no one I talked to knew anything about the RV sites. We arrived with no reservation on Sunday and had a choice of 3 sites. Still couldn't find anyone to pay or register with, so we took a site and paid on our way out on Monday. The gal at MWR office whom we paid said the gym is supposed to handle sites on weekends, but I had checked there and they claimed to know nothing. Call 252-335-6482 weekdays for reservations.
