Just bought a 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee and need to wire the tail lights for towing behind my coach.

One hitch place is telling me I have to use a bulb and socket kit and drill 1" holes in each tail light. They say using diodes would casue problems with the Jeep's sensors.

Another place is telling me I can use diodes.

And another place is recommending something new called a Towdaddy Plug-n-tow model 3011.

Just wondering if anyone else has already plowed this ground with the 2011 Cherokee and what they learned. I have always used diodes in the past but have seen several mentions of them causing problems with "Bulb Out" sensors. Not even sure if my Cherokee has bulb out sensors.

Had my 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee wired for towing using the existing lights. They used diodes and it has worked perfectly for the past 5 months. Unfortunately, I didn't do the work myself so don't know what diodes or how exactly it was connected.

Just the rear lights are connected. I know they used a pre-packaged diode connecting kit as sold at Camping World.

I also don't think I have "light out" sensors.

Thanks Larry. That's part of what I needed to know. I believe I will go with the diodes too. Now if I can just find a way to run that 4 wire cable from front to back and figure out the pin-out on the tail lights.

Maybe someone will come along who has wired one of these up themselves and can give me a clue on wire routing and pin-outs.

I also did the diodes. I have a 2012 Jeep.Ran wires up past battery down by left foot on floor board( drilled small hole to get wires inside by foot ) stayed along floor all the way to back and spliced in there.Used hot probe to find correct wires to cut. Took about 1 hour and 2 Budweiser to do.
