We called ourselves by a "handle" in the CB world before CPUs and email emerged in the world. Now we have "screen names" ... couple on the other board tell us the origin of the name -- so why not share it with us on this post started just for that...

Monkey44 -- studied monkeys and apes as a behavior anthropologist at UCLA in California many years ago for a BA degree. Love that field, and continued camping and studying wildlife and nature afterwards during my "Camping Life" ... so the name Monkey44 emerged some time ago. Birth year 1944 gives "44" ... You all mi ght be surprised how much like our "cousins" we really are. :D ::)

Obviously, I don't have a hidden meaning in my "handle". But I'm glad this topic got started. It's always interesting to see what these strange screen names mean. Like "Monkey44" - now it makes some sense. :o

Right Larry -- some are pretty obvious -- but I'd like to see why anyone picks a unique name ... it's interesting and often tells a little about the person too.

Probably a few people we know out there too that would not like a "handle" we'd choose for them if we had the opportunity ... ;D ;D

my "handle", "moniker", "pseudonym", etc. is Navyzone. I retired from the Navy in 1978 and now work at an Autozone store, so I use Navyzone.

Well the guys in my unit ...wow... that was a long time ago were into that Star Trek thing
and loved the Klingons so They started calling me Chancellor and It stuck. Believe it or
not when I retired they gave me a Complete Klingon uniform headpiece and all.

I love the &%4# Thing! I never fail to win at Halloween parties

When we are in the motorhome traveling I use rvtraveler for obvious reasons. During the time at home I use mkebikecop.

In June 1996 I retired from the Army with 7years active duty & 23 years Army Reserve. In July 1996 I retired from the City of Milwaukee, WI Police Department where I was a motorcycle traffic officer for 25 years, thereby MKE Bike Cop

I have the computer set to receive either email address.

I spent half of my Navy career in Hawaii. Got into sportfishing and naturally spent many hours fishing off Kona. Still sportfishing...mostly off New England coast...south of Montauk. My buddy and fishing partner (my golden retriever) is also named Kona. Just kinda works.

Kona coffee is pretty tasty too -- can't get that so easily here in the states. Drank lots of it in Hawaii though, when I was at Subase ...

From the "Duh" department.

I owned a 1979 Fiat Spider for close to 20 years. I had to give up "my baby" when we started fulltiming a couple of years ago for practical reasons. I still miss her and my wife swears I wouldn't be as upset if instead I had replaced her with something "more practical." I steadfastly refuse to answer the implied question.

(For Kona - My first Duty Station Was Airbarsron-2 from 1957 - 1959 At NAS Barber Point Oahu, TH and in the good ole CB days I was Mongoose. For fiatspider69. I had a white 65 convertable 5-spd while stationed in San Diego from 1970 - 1973. What a great car for that area. Hardly ever put the top up.

Hey Eagle,

My first assignment in the Marine Corps was MarDet, USS Independence in 1963 but I left before you came aboard to go to the Naval Academy Prep School. As I was on the crew to bring her out of dry dock and through re-commissioning I was a plank owner. Unfortunately I couldn't make it to her decommissioning a couple of years ago.

Small world.

Glenn -- now you're making me remember my '63 Austin Healy -- I nearly cried when I sold it ... but it became impractical as I "grew up" and settled into "life's work" ... great memory tho ... had a Bullmastif that rode (filled completely) the little jump-seat in the back !!

Glenn, When we (USS Independence) Departed Norfork in early 1965 for a tour of duty in the South China Sea we were doing two firsts. First 6th Fleet Carrier to go on a West-Pac cruise and first ever all jet powered Carrier Air Wing.

Eagle,
So that's how she ended up home ported at Bremerton, WA? She was decommissioned there several years ago and now no longer exists. Shame.

I seem to always have 'miles to go' before I am done either at the end of a day or the end of a trip. Also, one of my favorite poems has always been Robert Frost's Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening in which the final two lines go "And miles to go before I sleep."

Spent my first tour of duty for the Navy on Ford Island (1957-1959)...FICPAC..Fleet Intelligence Center Pacific. There were quiet a few Navy pilots there as well, and they kept their flight 'skins' by flying the old twin engine Beaches attached to (if my memory is correct) FASRON 117. Used to hitch a ride with them to the Big Island for fishing and recreation. Ended up getting a TR3 that got me into much trouble with the HPD. Those were the days!

Anyway, the galley on Ford Island had bags and bags of Kona coffee. Ruined me for life. Have a tough time finding coffee as good. Guess I will roast my own.

In the naval service, officers who came up through the ranks have the nickname "mustang". My route was to SSGT (E6), Chief Warrant Officer 3, then finished at 20 years as an LDO Marine captain (03), so, Mustang03. 10 years in tanks, 10 years in intel. Lot of good times.
