Does anyone have a definitive answer as to when the Fiddler's Cove upgrade will at long last be completed. It's such a great location - beautiful views of San Diego, but for all practical purposes, it's been open only on a limited basis for almost four years now!

We were down at Fiddler's Cove looking around on Friday. Latest was that they STILL don't have a date to start. They are waiting on release to begin on whatever the problem has been all along. She said it could be 6 months, a year, two years...who knows. They are as frustrated as they campers, I think!

you know, a person hates to complain, but the way MWR is structured, you take a 20 space r.v. park and charge say $30.00 a night. then hire three employees (minimum it seems) and pay them minimum wage, and benifits (and i have it from one employee, she makes 26.00 hr.) you cannot make enough money off the park to pay that much help and still improve the park. look around yourself at the things on bases that do not work and havent for years. car washes, saunas and spas in the gyms, etc. if they aren't big money makers they don't invest in repairs. personally i believe the parks need to be managed by retired military. i would take one just for the space rent and utilities, leaving profit for upgrades and maintainance. i had a park host tell me recently that i needed to take my own toilet paper into the bathroom as MWR wouldn't release funds to pay for it. how sad is that ?

Latest word is they have closed for redo and it will be 6-12 months to complete. No one was sure what the plans looked like but the rumor was that the rate will go to $40/night. That will price a lot of people out and a lot of people are not happy. It was just fine with dry camping.

Fiddler's Cove has started their construction but it appears to be moving at snails pace. They do have a facebook page but a lax about updating or responding. Few pictures but no real progress. We need to take a drive over and snoop around.

I drove into the parking lot the other day. There's LOTS to still be done. But it can be finished in a few months if they work hard.

The area is all level dirt and large pipes being installed. The bathroom building was up and framed in but not finished.

Our reluctance in believing they will be finished this summer is in their history of taking years to get this far. My other concern is they will probably charge an "arm and a leg" when open again.

I talked to someone at the campground reservation desk (by phone) today, and they said the thinking is that the campground would open back up this fall. The call did not leave me with a feeling of confidence.

We stopped by Fiddler's Cove the end of April and the staff thought the renovation would be done by September but don't hold your breath. The ground had been cleared, utilities in, some slabs poured and a new bathroom/shower building built about where the old bathroom building used to be in the middle of the park. Looks like about 54 spaces with three rows total. Of course the price will go up. My guess is $30-40 a day.

Made a quick stop at Fiddlers today. Looks good so far, a lot still to be done. Looks like all the slots are back in, both rows. Anticipated opening is late October/November timeframe. All reservations will be made thru the DOD website with a 30 day max. Must leave the park for 14 days before returning. No indication on pricing. Updates will be posted on reservation website sometime in September. If you want to check pictures, look at the MWR Fiddlers Cove Facebook page for latest.

Fiddler's Cove posted on their Facebook page they are taking reservations starting today for February and March. January 27th reservations can be made with either Fiddler's Cove direct or DODLodging.net. Opening is February 1. They did post the rates, but have since removed the posting. From memory, $35 for waterfront, $30 for non-waterfront Active Duty and Retired. No indication on the new rules for the park with regard to length of stay, etc. Prior to refurbishment there were a lot of very long term guests.

 :woohoo: I now have in my hot little hands a reservation for 2 wks in Aug. Been a long time coming. We love San Diego and have missed our favorite campground at Fiddler's Cove. Unsure at this point what the amenities will be (besides W/E/S). Anyone know about Wifi or TV ? No biggie, just curious.

We are going into our second week at the new and improved Fiddler's Cove. The staff has done an amazing job with the renovations. If you have stayed here before the renovations, you will be pleasantly surprised at what they have done. They still have some things left to do - additional firepits, TV and WIFI, but they are coming along.

We spent a week there in February. It was our first visit and we must say it was a memorable week. The sites have nice level concrete pads, lots of space between RVs, and are equipped with a marine style "power tower". You can park class A coaches facing the bay to get the views, but a 20' sewer hose won't reach the hookup, so bring along a hose extension. Our afternoon and evening entertainment was watching the Navy divers practice dropping into the water from helicopters, then being "rescued" by other divers. This is a great park with really classy upgrades. We will come back for sure - if we can snag a reservation! B)

Thanks - if you haven't already, you might leave a "review" on the campgrounds' information page.
