My retired Navy wife and I stayed here for the first time from Aug 23-30, 2009. What a great ocean FamCamp. The host/hostess seemed preoccupied with the motel area rather than the RV park. Who ever is in charge of maintenance is lacking consistency in taking out weeds and other debris around the park. A puddle was in the middle of the cross-walk leading to the office, the entire week. This was due to sprinkler run-off. We met many very nice people there. A major peeve with me was the illiterate people who can't read the signs posted everywhere; "Dogs must be leashed." You can't believe how many people we observed who ignored this requirement completely letting their dog run up and down the beach and dropping their waste there without picking it up. Its disgusting. The few acted as if it was a big dog park. G. OKeefe, MCPO (SW) USN Ret. p.s. They should have a shuttle to the NEX from the RV Park.

Can't beat the view! Camp is nice, enjoyed the fire rings and ocean breezes. Only reason we left so soon was that the park was full for the surf contest weekend. We will definitely be back! Wifi was down during our stay.

One of our favorite campgrounds. Hadn't been here in about a year and was reminded upon arrival of just how beautiful this area is. Nothing like walking along the estuary and seeing the seals, brown pelicans, plover's and other wildlife. Campground was very clean and I observed one of the camphosts, Tony, consistently working to keep the place clean on weekends. Very customer oriented young man. Great jumping off point for sightseeing the California coast from Santa Barbara to Santa Monica.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder...your approach is off of scenic Hwy. 1, you drive along a gorgeous coastal road and your entrance into the base off of Las Posas Road is of the lagoons filled with wildlife. The lagoons teeming with a variety of wildlife, both avian and sealife. It can be subtle, so take time to stop and observe it. We watched seals, herons, egrets and even some nurse sharks right along the road adjacent to the RV park. Be careful when approaching the RV park, the signage can be misleading, drive past the sign that points to the park and turn left into the campground parking along the motel for registration. Our experience with the staff was wonderful; both on the phone making reservations and in person. Some caveats: mosquitoes were rampant during our stay (supposedly unusual), the water pressure at the camp sites was over a 100 and the electricity varied depending on how many rigs were in the camp. The water pressure affected our rig and our friends, so much so that our reducers were inoperable and we ended up using our onboard water and water pump to avoid any damage to our plumbing. It is an active base and the campground is adjacent to an aircraft engine testing facility, which can be noisy at times but that is the beauty of being military and having the HONOR to be able to use active military installations, previous reviews have complained about these issues but remember; "Our freedom is not free". P.S.-there is a memorial to the passengers and crew of Alaska Airlines flight 261 that crashed off the coast of Point Mugu a few years back, it is at the end of the point past the beachfront RV and cottages.

Sorry to be so contrary to my contrary comrades, but this is our fourth trip in two years and OUR FAVORITE of the many RV military parks, especially the beach sites, especially the many with haughty tenured civilian management. If quiet and casual framed by the best ocean setting of the lot isn't high on your list, a fancier place might be best for you. But with an endless show of Dolphins, Sea Lions, Pelicans, Sea Gulls, and Sand Pipers in the inlet sanctuary and along a private half-mile beach with sheltered surf, we've scheduled another visit next month. Management, by the way, is refreshingly non-intrusive, mostly hang around the neat motel office with information and basic supplies at the ready. A couple of on-site RV monitors take care of the RVers and use laissez faire management. Helps make this the most open and relational campground we know. Reservations is cool, too. No pay in advance means there are more cancellations and no-shows and NO empty "paid for" sites. Get on the wait list and they'll call you or just drop in: probably will get a spot, especially when school's not out. There are a bunch of good locations with ocean view for MH's. Fivers have less options four good sites, six pretty fair ones in terms of view. No site number reservations, however. First come, first served...keep ears open for departures from favored sites and arrange with management to move. Email me if you want clues; I've got the chart. First time to check out what a great area this is. 30 scenic minutes south to Santa Monica beaches, half hour to the wonderful Channel Islands National Park and the tourist shops and restaurants. About the same to Old Ventura. Lots to do.

We had a very nice stay. The campgrounds are well kept, although the restrooms and shower rooms needed to be cleaned no matter what time of day I went in. The overall park was nice, ocean view from almost any site. Some of the front sites on the left (looking at the water) were only 50 amps and we didn't have an adapter, so we moved a little farther from the ocean and used a site that had 30 amp. There was a sewer back up on the row over from us, but was taken care of in a very timely manor. Personnel walked around the sites and informed everyone they could see sitting out that there was a problem and it was being taken care of and to please avoid the area. Office staff was great and had lots of useful information. The seals were out and the pelicans were plentiful, we had a great time just watching all the wild life. This campground is a gem in hiding. We will visit it again!

Each campsite has FREE instant on local telephone and DSL broadband connections. There are 24 50A and 37 30A electrical connections for a total of 61 total FHU blacktop campsites. There are several sites that are limited to RV's 29 foot or shorter. Office is open 24 hours a day. Las Posas Road gate is only open M-F from 0530-1730. Main gate is 1 mile NW of Las Posas Road gate on Hwy 1 and is open 24/7. There are 10 additional full hook up sites down the beach. They only have 30A and don't have the DSL, cable or phone hookups that the have in the main park. Total 71 spaces.

The U. S. Military has some of the best real estate around...and this is one of the best. For military (retired) folk, the sounds of freedom (test cell) and the near daily low fly-bys of high-powered jet aircraft only add to the charm of this beach front RV park. Staff was friendly and courteous. Wildlife was awesome...got to see some seals and sealions amidst the surfers...later got to see a family of dolphins swimming home no further than 30 yards from the shore! We plan on making this a frequent destination spot.
