Monterey Pines RV Campground

We had an unexpected opportunity to stay longer on the west coast and called to see about getting into this park. Rosalie couldn’t have been nicer. Given our short notice we thought we’d be lucky for a couple of days but she said if we didn’t mind moving sites we’d be able to stay for our 2.5 weeks…didn’t want to go home to the TX heat and didn’t mind moving (6 times in 2.5 wks). Pros: Rosalie was very friendly and great to work with in making local recommendations; you can’t beat the price for a CA park, especially in Monterey; the restrooms and laundry were clean and the laundry (4 washers and 4 dryers) were free; it’s centrally located to many sites to see and you only have to travel about 10 min to the beach and commissary & PX; convenient golf course (we don’t play) - the park lies between the front nine and back nine; breakfast at the golf club grill was good. Cons: This park just recently put in concrete pads, unfortunately the majority are far from level; we had 3 sets of “lego” blocks and still had to scrounge for some wood pieces in order to half way level our 26’ travel trailer; most of our neighbors complained of the same problem…even self leveling rigs had problems; wifi connection was very poor at all of our sites, but you could walk down the the golf clubhouse and sit outside for fair connection. Just a heads up: We’ve been RVing for 16 yrs and have never stayed in a more noisy place…the park is adjacent to the airport and flights came and went as early as 6:30a and late as midnight; the golf course lawnmowers were out at 6a; the contractors working on a military building started at 7a; the garbage trucks emptied the dumpsters at 6a; and definitely beware of golfers slicing the heck out of the ball…our truck was almost hit several times while parked at the campsite, in spite of high nets along some of the fairways. While we love the Monterey area, we will not stay at this park again.

This campground is well maintained and small, but very comfortable. We had full hook-ups and free WIFI. You do need to drive to the beach about 10-15 minutes. The base is within 5 minutes and has a nice bar area and good food too at the hotel, just ask the gaited at the gate for directions. I wish they'd had a place to run our dogs a bit, but that's only my preference. They also have clean bathrooms and showers, the handicap shower needs a little attention to cleaning, but the others were great. They also have free laundry, they are older machines so be sure not to over load and they can do the job. We will stay here again. Very friendly staff too!

$50/night USAF retired. Sites are tight. Vehicle parking is problematical. Sites on the hillside not level. Site 25-Sewer hook up covered by gophers. Wooden cribbing missing. Site 24 has cribbing keeping the dirt out of the sewer connection. Be prepared for some aircraft noise. The park is well away from the public road but there is no gate guard. Gate locked when golf course closes--you get a code. Still a bargain for Monterey area.

Monterey Pines is the most neglected Military RV Camp. There hasn't been any improvements since the camp was made. Management could care less about the RV camp and don't enforce any rules, except don't touch any part of the beautiful Golf Course. I believe money was appropriated to update the RV park but was used to improve the Golf Course. Dead trees, uneven RV parking, dusty road w/potholes, never mow the weeds, speed limit not used by management. Looks like a Junk Yard. Harvey Stolp

Make this review simple, next time in this area I will stay at any campground before staying here even if I have to pay $100 a day. Worst entry to park, no info given when registering. Sites a mess and on top of each other. Wasted enough time on this review, stay away.

We enjoyed a wonderful time in this glorious area. Yes, the spaces are a bit tight to back into, but well worth the effort - especially if you are a golfer. The recently updated 18-hole golf course is the best (military) track we've ever played. Well groomed, challenging, yet fair to both the golfer and the budget. Some reviews we read were "not great" (noise) but we put the staff and the area on our top 5 list. Actually the airplanes did not bother us at all. The laundry facility has just been upgraded which is a bonus. The immediate area just beckons one to get out and enjoy nature. There is the magnificent 17 mile drive along the coast (have lunch at Pebble Beach), charming Carmel-by-the-Sea, watching the otters, shopping & dining on Fisherman' Wharf as just a few suggestions. Also, for those interested, the American Legion is a great place for local information as they welcome members. If ever passing through that part of California again, we will be sure to book a week at Monterey Pines.

This camp is in a very special area and location wise could not be better. The staff is exceptional, Carlina really adds something special to the experience. We originally planned to stay two nights but she insured that if we wanted to stay additional time the site she placed us in would be available. She reminded us that there was much to see and do and she was right. I wish we could start a competition for the best staff. I hope this doesn't become one of those golden egg things...even in the off season it is relatively full and at the rates charged it should be a money maker. But maintenance of the grounds is an issue. I would recommend that if you have a choice that you not use site 21. If you do look up and you will see a large dead tree with large branches high above you hanging over the site. Truly widow makers.

Rather high rates for little in return. Rates go from $24.00 to $27.00 on July 1st. Not entirely sure what they spend the money on. Poorly maintained and lots of weeds at each site. Road is full of potholes, but at 5 mph can be managed. Carlina is very helpful. Sites are small, but do have a small patio site and charcoal grill with picnic table. Airport is close by and can be somewhat noisy. We are Air Force, so it doesn't bother us, but may bother those who aren't used to an airport so close.
Commissary and BX are on Fort Ord and pretty nice. Location is great. Not much on views, but a short drive to the beach and downtown.

This was a great little camp ground. Located right on a golf course so you can play or walk down to eat in the restaurant or bar. This is perfect for touring the monterey area. Bathrooms were very clean and laundry room was great. My wife and I really enjoyed our time there.

Been going here for a few years. This was once a top place to go. The grounds are being over run by weeds and grass not being cut. Half the sites are not even close to be level. During our stay, 4 families that are long term occupants. With 1 family having a freezer outside his trailer. Restrooms and showers, and washer and dryers were clean during the stay. MWR needs to start putting some money into this place. Golf course as always gets the most dollars, it looks like they are building them a new club house. Looking at the previous reviews have to totally agree about the sites being hard to back into. Also the sites are sandy dirt all over. Only saw the camp host once, didn't get to talk to her.

Yes, location is great. Lots to do and enjoy in the area and that is why we were visiting. After reading previous reviews, I was apprehensive about what we'd find at the park and, well, it really is that disappointing. We camped in a 40' fifth-wheel. Check-in was smooth and then it all seem to go downhill. Very tight getting through the one-way road because of cars parked along the way. We had a horrible time backing into our site; narrow road and very narrow site. Once in, it was all sandy dirt. No exaggeration, I was filthy after having to crawl around the embankments that surrounded our slides to hookup. (I should've taken pics.) And then we discovered it was only 30amp. Thank goodness it wasn't summer so we didn't need AC. (We made reservations through DoDLodging, so you never know...) Had to park our truck in the parking lot at the clubhouse because it wouldn't fit at our site and no where to park nearby. Not a big park and quite a few permanent campers, but sites were pretty much free of clutter. The thing that shocked me the most was that the first two groups of people we met were just plain rude/unfriendly. Couldn't believe we were at a military campground. Wifi didn't work. Thank goodness most of the time we were gone enjoying Monterey and Big Sur. When we did watch TV we had to pause the show when planes took off, but it wasn't too often and considering how many air stations we've been to, it just doesn't bother me. Laundry machines were good and decent cost. Oh, one last thing. The camp host was out quite a bit and busy. She really kept up with things.

The person who assigned a 40 foot motorhome in a 35 foot space must have done so out of maliciousness or humor. There are several spots that could have been more appropriate and that remain available as night falls. The CG is a perfect spot for exploring the Montery Peninsula though it is lacking in appropriateness of it's facilities. Some spaces are way to narrow to maneuver and are too narrow for a full size motorhome or 5th Wheel though perfect for a small trailer or Class B or C. There are no convenient parking areas for your Toad and no space to park in front of or beside you RV. At $30 a night it is no bargain given facility shortcomings. Although they say WiFi is available throughout the CG you may have to wander around a bit for a Hot Spot. I think I'd rather go elsewhere to a CG that really gives a damn about their campers. I hope somebody in authority reads this evaluation.
