Lori Sloan replied to the topic Re: DAV Welcome? in the forums. If " a regular Military Retired ID card" is issued to the disabled Vet by the his/her service branch, then they should present that when using the CG. but the ID must have "MWR privileges marked" on it along with the PX, Commissary, etc. 100% VA disabled Vet is just that....which requires a different ID card from the military which is issued when the 100% Disabled VA Vet presents his/her VA paperwork to the proper authorities for that ID....
The state of GA offers about the same deal that you quoted from CA, which gives them discounted pricing at state parks. but unless the VET has either the Retired ID with MWR Privileges or the 100% Disabled VET ID, they are not authorized to use the MCGs....
But if the Vet was first discharged,(not retired) from the service then went to the VA, received a disability rating less than 100%, then they are not eligible to use the MWR facilities...
This issue is very familiar to us as we learned the difference as Camp Hosts over 5 yrs.....
Hope this helps with clarifying the issue (but I'm sure there will be some who will have issues even with the explanation).....but this is how it was explained to us.

Lori Sloan replied to the topic Re: Campers Choice Best Military Campground in the forums.I agree that if a CG wins, let's say 1 or 2 times, then those should be "retired" from competing for a period of time, such as 2 or 3 years....letting others shine threw. There are many smaller CGs out there that are great!! Some with full hookups, but many with just W/E and they work just as hard at making your "camping experience" the very best possible...but since they aren't located near a major highway or tourist town, etc., they can't compete with them.....I'm also for the category of "Most Improved"...cause alot of locations have upgraded things and services and should get recognized for their efforts....but this is just my 2 cents on the subject....but sure will miss the "Best of" contest....

Lori Sloan replied to the topic Re: Golden Age Discount in the forums. You need to obtain a National Parks Service Senior/Golden Age Pass. Will run you $10 for life. You must be 62 years old to get it. Not all military CGs will give you a discount with this. (Mostly the Army CGs will.) But it doesn't hurt to ask...If you are a 40% DAV or more, you can obtain an access card which is free and for life...must present your VA paper work for it stating your % status.....but to use this card at Military CGs you must be retired military or 100% DAV with proper proof. Hope this helps...

Lori Sloan replied to the topic Re: Website Directions Need Improvement in the forums.Well, the issue of which gate to use at Ellsworth AFB, Rapid City, SD has been solved. It has been determined via the MILITARY POLICE GUARD AT MAIN GATE that as long as you can maneuver and fit thru, you can use the MAIN GATE. We purposely asked today on our way to the PX (without the 5er) and got the above answer....so we checked out the FamCamp, got a site, paid for it and went back to where we were park, got the 5er and the dog. We are now nicely parked on a great site....Am not ready to post a review, yet, but did want to let you all know the decision has been made.

Lori Sloan replied to the topic Re: Full time in DC area in the forums.Military Campgrounds are for "RECREATION" not "trailer parks"....suggest you may want to look into any local "mobile home parks" there....some do let regular campers stay for long term.....

Lori Sloan replied to the topic Re: WARRANTY: GOOD SAM CLUB VS OTHERS ? in the forums. We were members of AAA for years, but this last year while planning our up coming trip West, we discovered that membership with Good Sam (CG discounts, Roadside Assistance, and Extended Warranty) is a better deal. So dropped the AAA and are now Good Sam members. Are quite satisfied so far. And the benefits at Camping World for stuff is nice, too. Their customer service folks are very helpful and have answered all our questions....

Lori Sloan replied to the topic Re: No Military Campgrounds in Central Pa? in the forums.Lots of commercial/private campgrounds in the area...but if you'd like a "no frills" CG, try Cole Brothers Conewago Campground, 1507 Narrows Rd., Biglerville, PA....It's about 8 miles NW of Gettysburg on PA route 234 West. Mostly "Seasonal Campers", but they do have 15-16 sites aval. for short term stay. Water and Electric with dump station....on Sundays, they have a "honey wagon" for dumping at $5 charge. Phone # 717-677-8958. sites are gravel or grass, but somewhat level....Price per night is $25. Hope this helps....we have a seasonal site here, but are on our "wild west adventure" this year, so can't personally greet you. Let me know if you have questions...

Lori Sloan replied to the topic Re: anyone out there rving on retirement pay only? in the forums. It can be done....
We've been full-timing for almost 8 yrs. on his Army retirement, small PA pension and my small VA Comp., less than $3,000/mo. But we don't own a sticks & bricks house, no property, and have nothing in a storage lot. Planning is the key....such as where do you want to go and how long you would like or can afford to stay. We camp hosted for 5 winters (6 months at a time.)and traveled the other 6 months. We try to stay in 1 place any where between 2 wks. to 1 month. With your truck & rig paid for will help alot....The best thing to do is alot of research & planning. There are alot of blogs out there of full-timers who retire early and full-timing forums. And ask questions...
BTW....our SS kicks in this month...it will help with the gas on our trip west this summer...

First, let us thank you for your service.
Unfortunately, this fact doe NOT qualify you to use these facilities. You must be one of the following: RETIRED MILITARY, ACTIVE DUTY, 100% DISABLED VET, NATIONAL GUARD/RESERVIST ON ACTIVE DUTY,or DOD CIVILIAN presently employed by the DOD.
This question has been asked many times here. And more can be found by doing a search or looking in the FAQ section.
Sorry that the news isn't what you are looking for.
