We do it on retirment pay (E-7 and E-6). The biggest problem is the price of gas. It can add up really quickly. Planning where you want to be and how long you will want to stay will be the best way to go.

We live at the VFW campgound. Heads up they will adding sites sometime this year. Just got the approval through the city. Projected to add 10. There are temp sites available. As it is great place spots are not readily available. Great place for short stay in temp spot. Will keep you posted on progress of spaces

Know your posting was more than month ago - we are staying at Destin, there are always spots. We have 5th wheel some of the 'big' motor homes are here too. We had no problems with any toll bridge, but we came in from Pensacola.

Was on the DFAS military pay site and found this
A change in the law means you’ll receive your September and December pay a few days earlier this year.
The 2011 National Defense Authorization Act requires DFAS to process your pay by the first day of the month. When that day falls on a weekend or national holiday, the pay date is moved to the previous business day.

In 2011, this means your payment normally scheduled for Oct. 3 will be issued on Sept. 30 and your payment normally scheduled for Jan. 3, 2012, will be issued on Dec. 30, 2011.

As a result of the second payment in December, you’ll receive a total of 13 pay checks instead of the normal 12 in the 2011 tax year, which may increase your tax liability.

Because Jan. 1 is always a federal holiday, going forward you’ll always receive your January pay the previous December. So in 2012 and beyond, when we’ve fully transitioned to the new schedule, you will receive the normal 12 pay checks.

This change applies to retired pay, Concurrent Retirement and Disability Pay, Combat Related Special Compensation, allotments, garnishments and court-ordered former spouse and child support payments. It does not affect annuity payments.

Don't usually go on line to recommend anything but we recently went to a military campgroung that has WiFi but you have to go to another area of the campground to get a strong hot spot signal. Checked out the web and found this site which I recommend going to this site

Everyone has they preferences. One thing you will need to adjust to is less space. Any RV you get has its good and bad things. Have found going from pull along to 5th wheel storage can be hard. It varies with any RV. Remember you will be living in a space smaller than any apartment, things like books can take up lots space. The storage bags that deflate are great for storing winter/summer clothes - have them in the storage under bed. Any salesman will tell you that this is great and that is great and paying lots of money does not mean it will suit you. Get to know about up keep - changing gas bottles, tanks, Things like don't use regular toilet paper can mess you up. If you have time maybe rent one for a weekend. Find others who have RV's and ask them. Travelling is great and you see and experience so much. Have fun.

We are in Abilene at the momoment. Dyess campground was never started. Guess money etc was part of it. If you are going to be in town for short period check out VFW. It is right accross from the base, there are perm sites and temps spots. They have temp spots do not have sewer connections. VFW is on space available. Phone and address are (325) 690-1236 1049 Veterans Dr, Abilene, TX. There are other campgrounds by base and outside town. Tye has a cheaper one. Check the web for other campgrounds. Depends on what and how long you are in town. Be prepared for 100+ temps.
