Denny replied to the topic Re: Vechicle Registration in the forums. We were at Jacksonville FL NAS last week. Our window sticker had expired 12/2012. Only installations near me are Army/Air Force and neither are issuing stickers any longer. When I arrived at Jacksonville NAS, my ID card was checked by gate security and I was flagged thru. I went to base ID to get a new sticker. They told me that only active and permanent party need stickers now. Retirees only need to show an ID card.

Denny replied to the topic Re: Careful at Fourth Cliff in the forums.Don't forget to add your comments to the review section for Fourth Cliff. When we travel we read the camp's reviews but don't do a search of the forums. Maybe someone in charge of Fourth Cliff will also read the review.

Denny created a new topic Anyone at a famcamp in San Antonio? in the forums. We're planning on heading to San Antonio in 3 weeks. Looking for updates on the campgrounds at Lackland, Ft Sam Houston, and the 2 at Canyon Lake.
Just wondering if they've been running at full capacity, any changes to the facilities, preferences anyone has of one over the others, etc?
Thanks for any and all info.

Denny replied to the topic Re: Cross country by motorcycle in the forums. Are the motorcycle training course requirements pretty much the same DOD wide? Or do they vary base to base, post to post?

Why is the base commander allowing this travesty?

CCNAS isn't the only installation that allow non-military civilians. At least this place runs security checks on non-military types or they say they do anyway. Some of the other places permit non-mil in on space available with no checks.
I understand they are trying to keep the place funded but I don't agree with allowing anyone with a camper to pull in and stay particularly if it prevents those who have earned it from staying there. At the very least if a non-mil is going to be allowed in then if a qualified mil-members comes in then the non-mil should be moved regardless of day/night/weekend/whenever. The problem with that is when the non-mil member is out and about and can't be found for hours.

Denny replied to the topic Re: New Orleans in the forums.I'll 2nd dchaz's recommendation of Bayou Signette State Park. We visit NOLA at least twice a year and stay at their state parks. Bayou Signette is nice. It also has free WiFi if that matters. Always find it very clean. Lots of space between sites. A lot less hassle getting to than driving to the NAS. It's just a short drive into the French Quarter.
We've also stayed at Fairview Riverside SP and Fountainbleu SP on the northshore. It's about a 45 minute drive into the French Quarter across the causeway.

Denny replied to the topic Re: WHAT IS THE RULE ON TANDEM ? in the forums.Larry is correct.
Some states allow it, some don't.
Some have restrictions on what you can tow behind your 5er.
Most if not all states that do allow it will have some kind of overall length limits.
What is legal in one state does not mean it will be legal in another.
Statutes concerning double towing is like nearly every other statute - they are state specific. What one state allows has no bearing on what another state allows.
Do not rely on statutes for commercial vehicles. Many if not all states will have separate statute covering RVs/non-commercial. What may be allowed for a commercial vehicle will not be allowed for RV.
Be careful who you ask and who you believe. Some people know but a lot don't. Too many rely on internet stories they've heard from someone else who doesn't have a clue either. Or they will cite some internet site that is put together by who knows whomever. There are some websites that have some major erroneous information.
If someone actually knows or says they do then tell them to provide the applicable statutes for their state. You'll find alot of people have never read a statute nor have any idea where to look.
For IL here is what the statute says:
(625 ILCS 5/15?107)
Sec. 15?107. Length of vehicles.
(c) Except as provided in subsections (c?1) and (c?2){refers to semi truck/trailr combos}, combinations of vehicles may not exceed a total of 2 vehicles except the following:
(5) Recreational vehicles consisting of 3 vehicles, provided the following:
(A) The total overall dimension does not exceed 60 feet.
(
The towing vehicle is a properly registered vehicle capable of towing another vehicle using a fifth?wheel type assembly.
(C) The second vehicle in the combination of vehicles is a recreational vehicle that is towed by a fifth?wheel assembly. This vehicle must be properly registered and must be equipped with brakes, regardless of weight.
(D) The third vehicle must be the lightest of the 3 vehicles and be a trailer or semitrailer designed or used for transporting a boat, all?terrain vehicle, personal watercraft, or motorcycle.
(E) The towed vehicles may be only for the use of the operator of the towing vehicle.
(F) All vehicles must be properly equipped with operating brakes and safety equipment required by this Code, except the additional brake requirement in subdivision (C) of this subparagraph (5).

Denny replied to the topic Re: KARS, Cape Canaveral, FL in the forums. The reason we stopped by KARS was due to your notice a few months ago. We figured we'd stop by and get what info we could so we could pass it on.
Maybe someone will find it useful. It's a nice campground but if choosing between KARS and Patrick AFB (Manatee Cove) I definitely go to Patrick. Much nicer and more available. KARS now gives us another option.
I've got more pictures of KARS but no need me tying up space on this site. If someone wants to see more of it I can send it to them direct.
