Remington Park RV Campground

Stayed in this park all summer. Full hook-up sites accomodated my Class-A completely. Each RV site has a picnic table and fire ring. This campground is brand new and is being rapidly expanded with more RV sites and log cabins with full ammenities. There is no cable TV or internet but I was camping not staying at a hotel. The price of $25 was excellent compared to a commericial/public facility in this region, which averages of $40 to $50 per night. I was told that there is a shower house, restrooms, and huge lodge in the plans and should be fully constructed by the end of summer 2013. Remington Pond, which is actually a lake, is .6 of a mile down the road and hosts a nice beach, docks, boat rentals, bicycle rentals, etc. There are a ton of pavilions for rent for special occasions and smaller pavilions as well. The PX, Commissary, Shoppette, Laundry facility, Burger King, Banks, Class VI Store, etc... are 1.2 miles away from RV Park and are very large. Fort Drum appears to be forever expanding and I believe it has become one of the larger U.S. military installations that I've been to. All of the reservations during my stay were taken care of 24 hrs a day through the Army Lodging Office, however I was told that Army Lodging itself will be privatized on 1 May 2013, and that the Parks & Recreation Office will take over full operations of the RV Park and Campground. Their hours are wierd and seem to more accomodate their employees rather than customers. I am going back for the summer in 2013 so will be sure to post an update.

We stayed at this campground and were able to find it rather easily. Loved the quiet nights. Our dog had a ball running around in the grass. We did not use any of the amenities because we were in a class A. Good Dish reception. Excellent dog run, just up the road and looked like everyone picked up. If you like to fish, there is a big lake on post, also a kids and large picnic area. the only problem we had was this is a 20MPH and we got stopped by the MPs for doing 25, ended up with a warning. Turkeys are all over the place, the wife even gave them names, the 3 stooges, etc. Be glad qwhen they finish the expansion.

Staff at lodge and campground maintenance guy are very friendly and helpful. CG is extremely spacious, quite clean with gravel roads and concrete RV pads, but no wifi or cable and overpriced at $25 per night. There's more than 12 spaces available and they are adding cabins & removing rental trailers. Wild turkeys and deer roam around freely, and the CG is near hiking & bicycling trails. Ft. Drum is very spread out, and there's no PX or Shoppette nearby, but you also are a bit removed from day to day troop movements & etc. (Not a bad thing.) There's a some things to do nearby and a great wine tour out of Watertown as well. We'd only be staying a day or so if we were traveling, but we're spending a 10 days to visit my son, so we've done just about everything there is to do! I've been told the Thousand Islands way to and from Canada is one of the less traveled, so some prefer it over anything east or west. We went to Kingston, ON for a day-trip and spent way less than an hour getting through customs each way. Another note - they told us they close the CG when the weather freezes, not on a set date. This year that may be in January!)

Very clean location and cement pads with full hook up. No real trees as of yet for shade. Close to everything on post and Wal Mart in Watertown about 10 miles. Price is not right its higher.

I attempted to make a reservation in August 2011. No sites available. Instead stayed in not so nearby commercial park. When we visited the base noticed there seemed to be several unoccupied rental units in the campground. In fact, 8 of the 12 sites had rental trailers in them. Asked the office if they would move an unoccupied trailer to make room for someone like us calling for a reservation. No. So, at most 4 sites are available for RV owners and info in campground description about moving rentals is incorrect.

This is a very out of the way location but near the Lake/Commissary/Bx with Adirondack Mtns close by there is no Cable but you can get about 10 channels but my complaint would be there is no control on the animals and found it difficult to believe the waiting list for family's. I had a family with 4 children next to me in a 30ft trailer from 8 to 6mths but did notice that there was new rv spots with lots of room and full hook ups. I saw lots of turkey,deer with one porcupine and a nice friendly skunk. There is no showers but a restroom to use.

P.A. left this review using the Directory software: Visited on 06/11/2011, I received good directions from clerk on the phone when I made reservation a few days before my arrival. After I told him I had a big rig He told me my site number and recommended I park my fifth wheel first then come to the "Inn" to register. You pass by this "Inn" on the way to the campground, it is on the right while driving on Po Valley Road. The sites are excellent, great commissary & PX. It was a quiet relaxing night and checkout was uneventful.

If you want to stay here you have to first go to the Lodging office where if you are lucky the girls, ditzey, know what you are talking about. Then they will give you "directions" to the park. There are no real signs telling you where to turn. We took the second and had to drive around, apparently we entered at the exit, which is not marked. All of the spaces have trailer rentals in them, except for one which was our space. The add says they close 30 Sep, but we were here on the 14 through the 22 of October. GPS and On Star will not get you to the park because it does not have a address. The park is also expanding so hopefully it will improve.

There are two camping areas on this base. One is a 12 site campground at Remington Park. Google Maps shows this off Remington Pond Road at location N44.053113, W75.769551. Each site is pull-thru, level, and 30 amp, water, and sewer. Roads and sites are gravel. No trees, out in the open, and away from everything else. The other camping area, where I stayed, is 4 sites located on Officers Loop Drive right up against the side of a building that looks like an old barracks but is now being used as temporary lodging for active duty personnel assigned to the base for temporary duty. These 4 sites could be more accurately described as a very small mobile home park since 3 of the 4 sites were occupied long-term by active duty personnel. The one next to me had a woman, two small children, and a dog which was chained outside most of the time and barked at everything that caught his attention. She finally brought the dog in about 10:30 each night. This camping area had a trashy appearance and needed a new application of gravel to cover the dirt areas that had turned to mud from recent rains. There are no signs on base to guide you to either of the camping areas or to the registration office, Building 2229, which is across the street from the barracks next to the 4-site camping area. The entrance to the registration office is on the other side of the building and cannot be seen from the street or the camping area. Previous reviews mentioned a laundry in the temporary lodging building, an exercise room in a nearby building, and the continental breakfast at the registration office. I asked the pleasant young lady at the registration office about these amenities and she said that they were intended for the use of the active duty personnel staying in the temporary lodging but, when pressed, she reluctantly said that the campers could use these, too. The commissary and exchange are full-size, well-stocked, and appear new. I agree that $22 is in the upper range for military campgrounds but, by New York standards, it seems like a bargain. Private and state campgrounds in New York are much more expensive than their counterparts outside the Northeast area. We originally signed up for 5 days, but after 2 days listening to a barking dog and screaming kids, we asked for and received a refund for the remaining days and are now camped at an idyllic setting along the banks of the St. Regis River.

Very ignorant people. Asked at gate for directions. Was directed to the fort's recreation area. They are in progress of building a rv campground. Not ready yet. They had no idea of any other rv sites on the post. Pulled away from the rec area and was flagged down by a civilian employee. He took me to the rv spaces. They were located in a "parking lot" next to transit barracks. Finally found the check in office. They assigned my a space that was blocked by parked vehicles. No signs posted to forbid POV parking in the spaces. I feel that the most they should have charged would be $5-6, not the $20. Personnel were friendly but as stated before, totally ignorant. This is ok for a one night stay but only if the price was lowered.

First off lets dispel the rumor that a Golden Age Passport will get you in for half price. When checking in I was told the passport was good, however, when we decided to check out the next day I was informed they don't do the passport any more and since I had only paid a total of $20 I would not get a refund for leaving after one night. This is when the whole thing turned ugly. The sites are in a parking lot, site one, the one I was assigned, had two huge holes that you have to back thru and was just barely large enough to park my 33 ft RV with almost no where to park my toad. My connections are to the rear of my coach, the sewer, water and electric are way to the front of the site. Site 2 has twice the space and site three is also large. From my perspective, the sites are not worth the $20 per night. I've stayed in some really nice spots, Ft Benning, Mayport etc and paid less for a lot more. The major difference between the PX parking lot and these rv sites are the hookups. I will say that the young lady who checked me in was fantastic, however, the people after her left a lot to be desired.

First, I would not call this a recreation area when comparing it to other campgrounds. The 4 RV sites are in a parking lot between two barracks like buildings. They do have full hookups and picnic table at all four. I was assigned site #1 and told it was the one farthest in. When I got to the area, #1 is the first one and #4 is the farthest in. #1 is the smallest of the sites but had no problem with my 26 foot travel trailer. The water for #2 had a problem so the RV in there had run a hose to the #1 hookup and put a Y in there. Again, no problem. The continental breakfast is in a building across the street. Not a big choice of items, but as stated before it is free. I didn't use the laundry, but see that is free too. With my Golden Age Passport, $10 per night was a real bargain. The commissary was not stocked that well but had most items. Exchange was well stocked and typical Army exchange. This is a place to park your rig to do other things in the area. Another plus is there is a fitness center in the building in front of you. New equipment and was never busy when I was there. The coordinates given will take you to Pine Ln. which is not where the camping area is. It is on Officer's Loop. The check in is at Drum Inn. Coordinates for that are 44.03608 75.78658. I have checked these a few times and I end up there every time. I also checked the coordinates of the campsites. Should be 44.03388 75.75312. These took me right to it. Again checked. It does take you a little round about, but it gets you right to the area. Good place as a base of operations or overnight.

We stayed here for a week over Labor Day weekend using our Golden Age Passport for $10 a night. Check in at "The Inn at Fort Drum." They will then give you a map to the campground. Although not in a particularly scenic part of the post, the sites are fine. Active duty families waiting on completion of some new post housing were in the other three sites while we were there. We particularly liked the free laundry in the building behind us (second floor) and the small physical fitness center across the way. Continental breakfast and computer access is available in a building nearby. The base is huge and was good for bike riding. A park with lake swimming and boating and lots of other family activities looked inviting, too. The 1000 Island area, specifically Wellesley Island, is a place to see on the St. Lawrence Seaway. Lake Ontario and Canada are close by also.

We were impressed after we got to the site. Personnel are very helpful and polite. Plenty of room in last 2 sites however other 2 sites are short, but could handle up to possibly 38ft.
