J.N. left this review using the Directory software: - My reservation was lost, although they would not admit they made a mistake, even after I showed that on the 29 of May we talked for 4 mins. on my phone record. This not withstanding they did accommodate us. March 20130 of 0 people found the following review helpful
We spent 7 nights there. Is close to D.C. if you want to visit all the museums and memorials. Camp ground needs a lot of work on the premises. Base does have a good Commissary and BX. Website is minimum. It works only if you go to the office/laundry rooms. It is a great value, everything from Nashville to D.C. is more expensive. Great campground for the money to use as a base to seee all of the Washington DC sights. Folks in the office could not have been more helpful.....explaining the location of the Metro rail system, offering Metro rail passes with money already on them. Passes that other folks had left.....we paid forward...left more on the card than was there when we started, and they worked great. Laundry facilities were ok, and free ice machine was a great addition. We would absolutely return when we come back to the DC area. We had no issues with the directions getting off of 495 and into the Pearl Harbor gate. Jul 26 - Aug 4, 20122 of 2 people found the following review helpful
The best part was the price at $16 a night. The camp is not very well kept and the bath area is in need of upgrades. I wouldn't have mind paying 2 or 3 dollars more a night if I knew they would upgrade the wifi (useless), the bath/shower areas and groomed the park some. Staff need to turn off the A/C in the laundry room as it does not work, waste of electric. A new one would be nice as it gets pretty hot in there in the summer. The staff are very helpful. The metro pamphlet was very helpful. We were able to find the metro station easily. With the heat, a 50 amp service upgrade would also be a plus for campers. We enjoyed our stay at Andrews AFB. The staff was very helpful and really nice to our party. The Metro System is just about down the street and the people we met on the metro were helpful to "Country Come to Town". The BX & Commissary were fabulous, the commissary we ever seen. There isn't any diesel on post but out the Virginia Gate & turn right there is diesel there for a good price. Walmart is out the Virginia Gate as well. Exit gate & turn right at light, next light turn left, go under Hwy 5 & follow the feeder or something to that effect, Walmart & Lowes. June 20123 of 3 people found the following review helpful
Not much new to add to previous reviews. The location and price are the best things about the campground. And those two items alone make it a decent choice. It apparently is a money maker but I wish they would use the money to make it a better campground and more well run. The campground help (and phantom campground host) have a schedule that is hard to follow. There are people there during the day at times. Satellite doesn't work so I wonder why it hasn't been put in. It is a real shame to be in the nation's capitol and have such a horrible campground. I think it is a problem of leadership and interest by the MWR staff. Who ever is running this place really isn't. The staff seem barely competent. There is no presence of someone who is running the place. The same issues noted previously remain. No wifi, potholes, basic upkeep, rusty water etc. New gravel was put down around the roads and campsites a while ago but many of the campsites are not level. How much does it take to get them level? Not good when someone has to raise wheels off the ground to get it level. Would we came back? Probably. Because of the cost and location. It is just a shame it isn't in better shape and more well run. May 24-30, 20121 of 1 people found the following review helpful
This location is great if you're wanting to do DC. Overall appearance of park is pretty shabby--grass hasn't been mowed in weeks, trailers, RVs and dolly trailers stored hodge podge thru out the park. Only 30 amp and couldn't get satellite. We had a lovely site (25) that put us looking into the woods and this was very pleasant and relaxing. Staff was very friendly and helpful. 1-14 Sep 20112 of 2 people found the following review helpful
Location to Washington DC is great, location of famcamp on Andrews no so good, right next to a busy highway. Camp site nothing special, laundry room has 2 washers and 2 dryers, one doesn't work. Restrooms usable but not what I call clean.. Water extremely colored with rust or dirt, not fit to drink. Price great for east coast, no reason to stay longer than necessary for touring DC. Ask office for Senior Fare cards for METRO. June 20111 of 1 people found the following review helpful
Overall this famcamp was great. Directions were right on if followed. Pay attention to the directions and you will make the commercial gate with no problem. The folks at the gate were great, minor delay for inspections and right on in. No problem with the roads or streets getting to the campground, even at the gate. The folks at the campground were great, very helpful. Some of the camp sites are newly improved and it is my understanding more to come in that area in the near future. The attention to the landscaping showed the hard work in it's condition and appearance. Overall the facilities (club house, bath house, etc.) were fine. Trees everywhere, so a lot of shade. Might give problems at some sites for sat tv. Sites are extremely close together, not my favorite situation, but manageable. The internet service needs a huge upgrade. First problem was I wasn't told about it for several days after I arrived. Once I knew it was there it didn't provide reliability. If you get the signal it doesn't always provide the speed we are expecting and it will drop out fairly easily. For us that have working vacations this is a must. Finally, the manual reservation system is not reliable for those having to use it or the customers. There was a lot of confusion my last day about moving from one site to another because of someone coming in to my site. Turned out there was no reason for me to move at all. There has got to be software available for these folks to more efficiently manage the reservation system. Had no problem with location next to the golf course or closeness to the outside roads. Finally the dog park is not adequate and really did not provide a secure area for small dogs. Although I had no problem walking my dogs the area designed for that purpose and to allow them to run free needs some type of renovation, enlargement and improvement. If you visit DC you will like the location and I think the famcamp overall. March 20111 of 1 people found the following review helpful
Positives are (1)campground is in a good location for seeing the DC area; (2)daily rate is good; (3)bathhouse, game room, and washer/dryers (2 of each) are available. Negatives are (1)the main water system has been flushed three times in the past few days but the water is still orange; (4) WiFi is available, but not in your RV - campers take their computer to the campground office building for internet connection; (5) the "dog park" at the campground is an incredibly small area that is totally unacceptable as a space for dogs to run or chase a ball; (6) too many potholes on the gravel road in the campground;(7) no playground for children; (8) golf course is too close to the campground. I was walking my dog by the office a few days ago when a golf ball came close enough for me to hear it as it flew by -- landed about 20 feet away from me; (9) campground is very close to an off-base, heavily traveled road (which means loud traffic and booming music at all hours of the day/night). The rest of the base looks as if it is well taken care of but the campground is sorely lacking in many respects. Mar 12-26, 20111 of 1 people found the following review helpful
Closest military RV park to DC and the Metro (only 4 miles away) which makes it a real bargain, however, it is small and the sites are close together. If in the DC area to be a tourist, highly recommended. Commissary and exchange large. The base itself is rather small for an Air Force Base. The park could use a good face lift, according to the camp host, it's better than it use to be. If you are a golfer, you would be in heaven. This was our second stay at this famcamp. They have added some concrete pads. Nice idea but not executed well. They are too close together and when taking the rig off the ball, it was a long way down as the concrete was much higher then the gravel. My 35' Trailbay almost didn't fit. There is nothing for kids at this famcamp, not even a swingset. I had to move my neighbor's picnic table so I could get the slide out. Good thing he wasn't ever there because we were right up against him. There are other sites that have a little more room. Never saw the staff, communicated leaving notes, they weren't very organized but they tried to assist you. The location is great, price is even better and we will definitely return. Makes a great base camp to see D.C. Commissary and Ticketing office are very nice. Far more positives then negatives with this one. Make sure to use GPS coordinates to find the commercial gate as it is new and the road has been changed from most of the maps in the GPS systems. I would never try to take a rig through the any of the other gates, too small and not equipped to handle anything but cars. 18-26 Sep 20102 of 2 people found the following review helpful
If you have a firearm, gate guards will call for an escort to take you to the armory to store the firearm. We use a sediment filter and never noticed any rusty water inside our motorhome, but the filter was unbelievably rust colored in just one week ...far more than when we normally change filters every 4 months. Voltage tended to sag under load, so we were careful to turn off the ac anytime we had any other load on other than a few lights. Could not get satellite TV due to tall trees, but some sites would be ok -- there are a number of local digital OTA stations. WIFI was "down indefinitely," but our Verizon broadband signal was good. We were stationed at Andrews, and have stayed here in the past so knew what to expect ...the best thing about the famcamp is the location. Other than location and price, the famcamp has very little going for it. Unlike most facilities at Andrews, the famcamp is a strong candidate for the worst military campground in existence (...we have been to over 40 around the country). 31 Aug-7 Sept 20101 of 1 people found the following review helpful
Great location to visit D.C., it was an easy commute to get to the Branch Ave, Metro station and travel into DC. We used the Smart trip card and were very pleased with using the Metro service. After getting into DC we were glad we didn't drive, traffic is horrible. Parking at the Metro costs $4.25 a day and well worth it for the convenience. At the campgrounds we were assigned one of the newly poured concrete sites. The site was fine, 15 foot wide by 40 foot deep and level. After reading some of the other reviews about these new sites I was apprehensive about taking one but am glad I did. There was plenty of room between sites, we parked the 5th wheel toward the edge of the pad and ended up with an 8X40 concrete patio under the awning. I would recommend not hooking up to water here, we did and found out quickly that what others had been writing about the rust was indeed very true. Bath house was old but kept clean and serviceable as well as stocked with the necessary paper goods. As far as the roads, they are gravel and dirt and the dry conditions of the week we were there made them very dusty but everyone traveled below the posted speed limit to try and keep the dust down. Anyone wanting to visit D.C. this is a great place to stay for the money, we would definitely stay here again. August 12-16, 20100 of 0 people found the following review helpful
Like other reviews this is a great location to visit D.C. Staff friendly and helpful. This could be a great camp grounds with a little work. A few gravels and maybe someone mow the grass a few times a month. Was able to use wifi outside of the camper didn't have to go to the office. Anyone wanting to visit D.C. this is a great place to stay for the money. Visited on 28 Jul, 20100 of 0 people found the following review helpful
I saw the other reviews and had mixed feelings about being here. But after getting here I feel that some of the problems voiced might be a tad harsh. The site I had was exactly what I was given to understand by the Host, a nice basic hook-up, electric only. There was obvious damage to the connection by previous campers (if you pull away from your site with the electric shore tie hooked up, you may want to consider using motels). But the staff was doing all they could to repair damages and keep the park running. The new pads may be close, but I have been in parks where these would be considered "spacious". Please remember, the costs are low for the area. The staff went above and beyond assisting me at every turn. Knowing that I have a disability, one even volunteered to take my wife and I to the Base Facilities, returning to pick us up after shopping. Will I return, there is no doubt. We had a very pleasant stay for two weeks. Each day some of the campers threw trash and bottles around but these were cleaned up quickly. Trash seemed to be the fault of campers not the staff. They had free wifi at the office and laundry. The metro station was about 4 miles away and made getting to the sites in DC very easy. I will go back to this campground. 15 June thru 24 June 20100 of 0 people found the following review helpful
They have just put in six new pads! The only problem, they are so close that anyone with a awning or slideout will be on their neighbors spot. They need to rethink the whole process. Looks like an engineer that has never camped designed the layout. We spent 9 days there, the area is very historic, but, the traffic and attitude of the locals were so poor that I would rather be anywhere else. Maybe the campground upgrades will help the campers attitude of people visiting. Base has a very nice exchange and commissary, well stocked. Security forces personnel were very nice (had to check my weapon into the armory), escorted us to the armory and then provided directions to the campground. Won't go back, but, it has nothing to do with the campground. May 9, 20100 of 0 people found the following review helpful
If they put concrete pads in like it looks like they are doing and concrete the areas around the pads, this will be an outstanding RV park. It rained for one of the days we were there which made it a little muddy. The camp host was very helpful in providing us a last minute reservation and the help she provided during our stay. Would be nice if they had cable RV hook-ups. Being just outside of DC, this is a great value for the money. 18 June 2010 till 1 July 20101 of 1 people found the following review helpful
After reading the other reviews we were a bit nervous about this campground. We were met by a very helpful Camp Host. She explained she was there during the day and closed the office at 1630. We are staying on lot 9 and hook up was easy. The park is quite clean and well maintained, comparing it to several we had paid a high price for. The boys found the bathroom adequate and had no problem with washing clothes. The water was clear. Talked to one of the permanent Camp Hosts and he explained the problem with the water at times. They have to flush the lines regularly since they are at the end of the line. They are in process of putting cement pads and 5 of them are almost completed. Our trailer is on one of the graveled sites but we just had to wear shoes. We did find the Metro a bit of a challenge. Husband is handicapped and uses a electric scooter. The elevators not working at several stations made our trip quite interesting. Would we come back? Definitely. |
