After "living" in our daughters driveway for many months and not knowing that it was a city violation, we moved to Ocean Pines. We have been here a month and have another month to go before going to Sea Mist on Dam Neck for 2 months and then back here for one more month. We love it here. The rebels that we are, we are parked with the front of our RV facing the golf course, while every one else is backed in and facing the street. We love sitting and just looking at the woods and lake. As far as jet noise? Comes with the territory and we do not mind "the sound of freedom" one bit. And believe it or not, it is quieter here than at our daughters home!! The only problem we have had is a neighbors dog attacking our little dog one day. No permanent damage done. And the owner was very apologetic and had even informed the office before we filed a complaint. We will definitely be back. Love it here. We were very disappointed there are so many long term campers here. We were here for 6 days and on each side of us our neighbors were not present, only their rigs. The check in staff was very helpful. We did not use the restroom or laundry facilities so cannot comment on them. We were also disappointed there was no cable or wifi. We were able to pick a site where out roof mounted satellite worked and we received 2 local channels on the antennae. Our Verizon signal was very strong. Our site was level as we had two concrete rows to place our wheels. Also there was a nice patio and the sites very relatively spacious. Also liked the close proximity of the commissary and base exchange. If we come to this area again we would try to secure reservations at Sea Mist where we could be closer to the ocean. If everything in this park were as nice and accommodating as Rick, I could stay there for a month. And the truth is, most everything is that nice. But then I tend to nit-pic. A few too many homesteaders and a couple of them are in really old rigs that need to be replaced. I understand that the rent from these keep some of the Military RV parks open, but really?? Commissary and BX were both close to the RV park. There was only Bio-Diesel available on base, but it was very expensive. Regular fuel off base was much more reasonable. There is some nice shade to be had in the park. the seafood around town is fabulous!!!!! No cable, but the antenna worked fine. Had to leave early for an emergency back in FL. I'll be back for sure. 5-8 July 20120 of 1 people found the following review helpful
J.E. left this review using the Directory software: - Great site and helpful staff. Really enjoyed our stay. Jet noise? Comes with the territory. 3 - 6 Jul 20121 of 1 people found the following review helpful
Rick Sheffield worked hard to help two retired couples meet up with their RVs. He cheerfully adjusted my requests and schedules to adapt to the hot weather and friend's travel schedule. He called ahead with the gate code and helped us find two sites relatively close together. The price was right, the sound of the F-18s were great, the place was pristine, $25 a night great value. No cable, but not a big deal with satellite TV. Thanks, Rick. Dave Teal, Lt. Gen., USAF, Ret. May 20121 of 1 people found the following review helpful
We love the Virginia Beach area and like this campground and the one over at Dam Neck. Ocean Pines is a converted mobile home park which explains why some sewer connections are directly under the back of the motorhome rear axle. That was not convenient but overall it is a good place to stay. We would do it again. 03-06 JUN122 of 2 people found the following review helpful
We have stayed here before and enjoy the large lot's and supportive office staff. Virginia Beach waterfront is very close, as well as the Exchange and Commissary. I would suggest that everyone use some sort of water filter as the water here, although tasty, has a tendency to be muddy colored when you first open water valve. No big issue though, just plan on using water filter. I have found it easier to make my initial sewer connections before backing the 5th wheel onto the pad. That will save you from laying on your stomach and fighting with the hose and connection. The office/showers/laundry facility was immaculate; .75 to wash/dry. The jet's were using an alternate approach pattern while we were here, however I do love the sound of freedom! We will stay here again! May 11-16, 20121 of 1 people found the following review helpful
This was a great location for meeting family and beaching. Campsite was just fine, spacious enough. Lots of jet noise--I used earplugs and it was still very uncomfortable. May 11, 20121 of 2 people found the following review helpful
We stayed here for 5 nites while visiting family. The park has a nice spacious feel to it. Jet noise was tremendous!!!! Nov 22-27, 20112 of 2 people found the following review helpful
Large clean campsite-great camp host-great location. My wife and I stayed over the Thanksgiving holiday and enjoyed the stay. Felt very safe. Had trouble finding the sewer hook up due to cover not marked. Camp host had this issue fixed within 20min after arrival. We will come again and hope others take advantage of this great campground. i love this area. nice rv park if you like jet noise but is in a great location to the nex and commissary. the new person in the front office, rick is rude. don't let him be rude to you...report him. i heard other people complain about him. they need to find someone else. lisa, the rv park host is ultra friendly and nice. jackie and dick were so much friendlier than rick. we will not stay there again because of rick. We've been here most all summer, wife had and still having health issues. Jackie is no longer here. Rumors were going around that she got fired, but I also heard and know she was getting ready to leave, they were building a home in NC I think. Butch from Dam Neck annex comes over to sort of over look the operation, but he doesn't know the computer. They are looking for a new camp host. We planned on staying a full month at Ocean Pines RV Campground but were forced to leave because of Hurricane Irene. We had a pretty good site (Site #4) but on Wednesday and Friday nights the noise from the Honky Tonk Bar across the street and outside of the campground (Smokies Place) was very loud ... lots of bikers. The military beach was outstanding! My wife and I were enjoying a peaceful time on the beach when our beach chairs began to sway to and fro ... it was the earthquake! No WiFi and no cable but good satellite reception. Easy to get to the Navy exchange and commissary. The Navy exchange was the largest exchange we have ever seen! Lots of F-18 Hornets doing touch-and-go practices and the planes got quite loud, but, hey, it's the sound of freedom, so we didn't mind. Hated to leave. We were going to move over to Sea Mist (brand new RV park right on the ocean) and stay a month or more, but that all changed with the hurricane. We will definitely come back to the Virginia Beach area. Where else can you experience an earthquake and be run off by a hurricane! JULY - AUG 20112 of 2 people found the following review helpful
Just wanted to say that the RV campground is well maintain and the Host is very helpful. I will be staying there again. Jackie...Hats off to you!!!! The jet noise is there but once but not a big problem for me. The overall campgrounds makes the noise bearable. Once again JOB Well DONE JACKIE!! This would be a great place except for the jet noise! I know that the base campgrounds are a perk & obviously the navy has to do whatever is necessary to be prepared BUT it was soooo loud you couldn't even talk to each other half the time. We've stayed at other NAS, but they weren't like this. One night I timed the jets going over us, it was every 45 seconds for over 2 1/2 hrs until almost 11pm. Every day we were there the jets went over the campground for several continuous hours. The campground itself is very nice. There are some trees, the sites are spacious & it's very clean. There is a nice playground for the kids & the laundry was one of the nicest base laundries around. It's close to the beach & Williamsburg & Jamestown were within an hour from there. Jackie, who runs the campground, was very nice & does a great job. I would have given it a much higher rating but we just couldn't stand the noise. Love this campground! Jackie goes above and beyond to keep her campers happy. She is an excellent manager. The campground is always clean and there is a great playground for the kids. The only downside is the upper management PJ who harasses the people staying here and makes disparaging comments about active duty personnel. She isn’t around this campground very often so she is easy to avoid. I love the proximity to the beach and to the base services. I would stay here again as long as Jackie is still running the place! The jet noise takes a little getting use to...but a great location. Spacious sites. I feel secure in a gated RV park... Jackie and Dick are very friendly and professional. 10-17 September, 20101 of 1 people found the following review helpful
Stayed for one week and was very impressed with the staff and the campground. All sites are well maintained and the grounds are exceptional. A nice playground for young children and the whole campground has a 5 MPH speed limit that is strictly enforced. Saw a large number of campers with dogs, but never found and surprises. Jackie and crew are super and this is a real well kept secret. 17-21 June 20102 of 2 people found the following review helpful
Great place to stay while in Virginia Beach. Price was reasonable and sites were large, not very shaded but most sites are situated to get shade in the morning or in the evening, most spots with shade are taken by long term campers. The exchange and all other on base facilities are real close. There is a big, well stocked commissary up the road about a mile and a half from the campground. Code needed to get into the campground and the bathrooms are inside the office area which you will also need a code for. There is pay WiFi signal available and it was reasonable and stable, we were here for four days but paid for a week of internet, cheaper than if paying the daily rate. Jackie was very accommodating and does a terrific job taking care of this FamCamp. Everyone in the campground seemed friendly and courteous. We had a real nice bike ride down on the boardwalk but if you intend to use the city parking (which is much cheaper than the private parking) get there early or the lots are full. Will definitely stay here again if we get the chance when we are in this area. 21 June 20102 of 2 people found the following review helpful
Just wanted to update you on how committed Jackie is. I just called to make reservations for this upcoming weekend as our Florida vacation had to be canceled because of the oil. I called and left a message on the answering machine and about 5 minutes later Jackie called. She was very nice and accommodated our request of 2 sites. I was pleasantly surprised I could get this location with such little notice. Anyway, I will be back to update when we visit this weekend. The site required that I rate the campground. I will come back in and update the ratings when I visit. |
