This is our first stay. We will probably stay here again since it is so close to our daughters place in Virginia Beach. The campground is old and cramped (e.g. narrow roads, tight car parking). The campground has lots of trees so limited there are only a few sites that where you can get a satellite connection. But they have cable TV which is nice. The restrooms are adequate and clean and the laundry facility is good. The campground manager is friendly and helpful. But this is an old park. The grounds are not very well taken care of. The grass has not been mowed since we have been here. Looks like it has been a couple of weeks at least. There is a one-way road through the campground but you have to be careful to figure that out when you enter the campground. There are no signs that tell you that. A big problem for us was entering the base. We got Gate 3 correctly, but there was NO indication of which way to go for RV's. There were signs for commercial vehicles. That is the direction we should have take. Hindsight is great but some times areas for commercial vehicles are only for them and not for RV's. Making a split second decision since there were cars behind us, we inched toward the main gate. It was a slow maneuver but we made it past the concrete abutments with out scraping. Very scary. And the gates guards were clueless. No help what so ever. They had no idea what to do with us as we approached the gate. A simple point to the right or waving us through the parking lot where we should have gone would have saved us a lot of trouble. (Can you tell how frustrated I was??) $22 a night for a campground like this is about $7 too much in my opinion. But convenience makes it worth it to us so we will be back. We camped in a 40' motorhome. Oct 10, 20120 of 0 people found the following review helpful
Diesel now available at renovated gas station. Package store now at new gas station. Large & well stocked. Many sites used as active duty housing. During our 5 day stay some units never showed any activity at all. One sailor took out her own gas powered leaf blower & cleaned up her site. Made a BIG difference in appearance. Entire campground should be beautiful. Instead it looks dingy & dirty. A Billy Goat vacuum would make a world of difference. Different staff person (still part time) seems much nicer, but command needs to change attitude. Golf course is the magnet for us. Very nice & friendly staff. Arrived on a Sunday and obtained assigned space from display board at office. Assigned space was occupied so I took next available space since no host came out to greet us. My reservation was for 3 days but plans changed and I requested 2 additional days. The reply was unable to grant request due to a reservation for the space I was currently in, which I had no choice to be in anyway, but was informed that I could pick up everything and move to another spot for 1 day only. Not happy with that option I decided to leave on original time and go to another CG. My gripe is during my 3 days there I physically sighted numerous personnel in uniform and some not in uniform departing early for work daily. I thought this was a CG for recreation not housing. Maybe I should question this on ICE. April 20121 of 1 people found the following review helpful
Access instructions right on target. Older location and not really bigger rig friendly due to tight maneuvering into the back-in spaces. Power advertises 50amp with 50 amp outlets and breakers but only 30 amp delivered. Water is shared between sites...make sure you have a long hose or get the site closest to the water. Lawn mowing during our stay was not happening. Seemed like a lot of long term active duty occupants. Okay place...nicer also not far away. Dec 30, 20111 of 1 people found the following review helpful
Hello my name is Cindy Pultz, I am the new recreation assistant in the RV Campground office. Along with Dick and Peggy we would just like to wish you all a Happy New Year and Safe travels. So please come and stay with us for a nice a relaxing and enjoyable time. I am very excited about being on board with my sisters Flip and Heather from Fort Story Campground. We have some very exciting new improvements we will be implementing at both campgrounds and can't wait for you to come and visit. See you soon.... The location of this park is perfect to enjoy the sites in and around Virginia Beach. The prior park managers, Dick & Peggy were the perfect campground hosts. Their experience with military RV campers and their willingness to go out of their way to make the park an enjoyable experience will be sorely missed. Little Creek MWR has missed the mark by not offering a "monthly rate", increasing the monthly rate to over $600 a month and not providing needed campground upgrades (upgrade electric service in laundry to accommodate all washers/dryers, install a change machine, repair 50amp service to several of the larger RV sites). More importantly, if MWR believes they need to hire another person to run the office, please hire one that has some experience with RV'rs. The current person lacks the personality and communication skills required of that position. July 20111 of 1 people found the following review helpful
Peggy and Dick are great. They will go out of their way to help you with whatever you need. BUT, I am not very happy about it only being a daily rate park. MWR should really re-think bringing back the monthly rate, especially for active duty members. April 11, 20111 of 1 people found the following review helpful
We only visited...did not stay....Yes, the price per day has gone up to $22/day/over $600/month. Sites are all back ins and close together, which looked to us as a tight turn during backing in. Peggy & Dick do a good job running the place. For $22 a day, thou, we would look at other places to stay in the area.... 20090 of 0 people found the following review helpful
Nice RV park but hard to get a RV space... :( Jul 30- Aug 5, 20102 of 3 people found the following review helpful
All in all a good value, but there are a few things that could be better. First let me say the directions were excellent and everyone was helpful. 1. Access to the Base is not well managed. There was no consistency in rules. Between the various installations in the area, and depending upon which guard is at the gates the rules changed. The Navy/Marine bases around Norfolk still want to see a "base sticker" on the car. My son, who is active duty stationed in Canada, does not have one. After getting a lot of run around, being issued several temporary passes, and having the vehicle "strip searched" twice, we were finally told by another visitor how to solve the problem. If you do not have a vehicle sticker, go to the vehicle registration office by gate 3 and get up to a week pass that will work at other locations as well. It would have saved a lot of problems if someone had told us to do that day one, or make that a part of the on line instructions. 2. The camp is very small entry, exit, and parking can be very difficult. The person next door had a large Ford 450 dully with a front end "rack" which really stuck out into the road. He was not present until two days after we arrived, so I had to back up between several trees and his truck. It took a lot of maneuvering and the neighbor across the road had to move his vehicle. Before I departed the neighbor came back, moved the truck, and all went well. It was unnecessarily difficult because he was allowed to leave his truck unattended blocking another site access. 3. I read several talking about the WiFi. We could not get it to work. 4. If it rains a lot there are several water issues. Again, all in all a good value and a great location. NEX and other facilities are great. If you need the Post Office, like I did, it has moved over by the Chapel. The CG is small and I recommend a recon, if possible, to pre-plan your site access. Once you enter the CG you can't turn around. June 19, 20102 of 2 people found the following review helpful
The campground looks great and well taken care of. Paved roads and concrete pads at every campsite, all backin but should be easy for all but very long RV's. The bath house and laundry room are clean and well taken care of. The staff is friendly and seem to be htere to assist if you need them. Cable, WIFI, and all hook-up’s are included. The Exchange and commissary are open 7 days a week are good size and well stocked. Definitely worth what you pay for this campground. Use gate 3 for entry, it will accommodate large vehicles and just a few hundred yards from the campground. Make sure to take the fourth driveway into the campground as it has the most clearance. Very nice campground, well maintained, clean and neat. The camp host, and her husband, went out of their way to make certain we felt welcome and satisfied. Commissary and Exchange were nearby and the golf course was in good shape. Will definitely return. Thank you Peggy and Dick. March 15-21, 20102 of 2 people found the following review helpful
When we arrived, was told they were not expecting anyone in that day. I showed Jerry an e-mail from Peggy confirming a site, things changed and I was welcomed with open arms. Found everything to be very clean and well maintained. There seemed to be several (about half the sites) occupied by long term visitors. The exchange and commissary were well stocked and an easy drive. My only criticism, MWR nor the camp hosts have any control over, is that the clinic at Little Creek does not accept walk-ins or emergency. An area, MWR does have authority over though is the speed bumps in the campground. With narrow close quarters inside the campground, why are so many speed bumps needed? Would stay at Little Creek MWR RV Campground again. July 30, 20091 of 1 people found the following review helpful
I am happy most campers are pleased with this campground. We, however, had a horrible experience. Initially, no camp host was to be found. When the man arrived, he never took the ear plugs out to be able to hear us. Finally Peggy arrived. Our reservation, which was made at least 6 weeks in advance, had been misplaced. She said we never made one with her. It was to have been for 2 nights for a 40 foot motorhome. Instead Peggy told us we could only have a 1 night stay. We insisted that we had a 2 night reservation. She FINALLY found the reservation under extremely messy piles of papers and saw that it was for 2 nights and for a 40 foot motorhome. When I pointed that out, she snidely said, "We'll see about that." They put us in a site for 34 foot MAX units. The front of our motorhome extended into the street. Other campers complained and so did we. We were told that was all they had and that if we didn't like it, we could leave. We immediately asked for our 2 night check back and only stayed one night. If I could have given our Overall Experience and the Hospitality in this review a ZERO, I certainly would have. My wife and I never plan to return. This place should NOT allow elderly, grouchy camp hosts to take reservations without computer assistance, nor allow those camp hosts to play favorites with LONG time campers in a campground that supposedly only allows 30 day stays. Wow - what a great place! Just goes to show what a good (great) camp host can do! This place is spotless and has everything anyone could ask for. Oh ok, I wish the wifi was free but still appreciated even at the price. Peggy and Jerry are accommodating and make sure all campers are happy and that they have everything they need. Can't believe this wonderful spot is even in the same district as Cheatham Annex. Cheatham is worlds apart from this superb place. Maybe people from Cheatham should come here to find out how it is done. June 20091 of 1 people found the following review helpful
We had no reservations but stopped in and were greeted nicely and although the place was busy assigned a great site for our motorhome. We were impressed by everything we saw and experienced and really enjoyed our visit. Gate 3 allowed very easy access, although be sure to turn right into the commercial vehicle/bus area and then proceed to the gate. Verizon internet worked very well. 17 - 20 April 20093 of 3 people found the following review helpful
Had a very good and relaxing time at this park. The camp hosts are a wonderful couple, even though they woke me up by mistake one time....... The grounds are well kept, comfort rooms are very very clean. Any spot seems to be good. No more eating at the Galley for retiree's. We went to the 19th Hole and enjoyed the food and price are great. If you like burgers, try the Par-Burger, the price is good and I am sure you will not be able to eat the Burger sitting. It is very big burger, fresh, and juicy. Gate 3 was new to me since I have not been to LCreek since I left the NORVA area in 96. The New Gate 3 is very nice to drive through, and you do not need to get your RV checked. Just show you ID and in you drive. At the light make a right on the RV Park is on the Right. Very easy to get to. I just wish they had a pool at the Campground. To get to the beach on base just drive pass the 19th Hole and you are there. If u have any questions just E Mail me............. And remember your Host are 2 wonderful people and they do alot there to please you........ April 3, 20094 of 4 people found the following review helpful
We came to Little Creak for a working vacation. The campground is in great shape. Paved roads and concrete pads at every campsite. The playground is in good shape. The bath house and laundry room are clean and well taken care of. The staff is friendly and will help you with anything you need. Cable TV and all hook-up’s are included in the low price. There is a wetland viewing platform across the street from the campground and the Circle H nature trail is only 1/4 mile away. The NEX and commissary are both open 7 days a week and are very large and well stocked. As noted in prior posts: The roads in the campground are narrow. But the sites are laid out in a way that makes backing in very easy. NOTE: Make sure to use the commercial entrance at gate 3 to avoid possible damage to your RV due to the narrow barricades. We would stay here again. June 20084 of 4 people found the following review helpful
Great place. Peggy extremely friendly and helpful. CG spotless. Shower and laundry facilities are so clean it's almost a shame to use them. Gate 3 entrance is fine but roads in CG are narrow. Sites are back in. Really a pleasant CG to visit. Exchange is ENORMOUS! 13-21 June 20084 of 4 people found the following review helpful
Just an update to say that things are still the same as previous reviews for Little Creek NAB. Narrow roads to get in, and all sites are back in, but all your new neighbors will come out and move their vehicles if necessary to help get you in. They will then want to invite you over for a beverage and to chat with you. It's your new neighborhood ... you won't want to leave anytime soon! This is a pretty busy campground. When you call Peggy, she'll tell you if you can get in or not. Just keep calling back to see if something opens up. She's not always there, so keep trying. Peggy and Jerry keep the campground spotless ... well groomed spaces, clean bathhouse and laundry. Top notch! The Exchange is one of the bigger ones I've seen. The comissary is fully stocked, and did you know there is a large Water Park on base? Attention Parents! For $5 per person, you can enjoy Gator Water Park, 11am to 5pm. I would come stay here just to go there once or twice during my visit. The playground in the campground is wonderful. And there is another playground on base across the street from the water park. And fishing in the lake there too. The driving range at the golf course has a covered-garage type canopy, however, the tee box is artificial turf. The base beach is only so-so, and getting anywhere else to go to another beach is a traffic-jam nightmare. So when driving off-base in the area, bring your patience and your favorite music! |
