What a hidden jewel. This is a fabulous campground. If you like a quiet, beautiful beach this is the place for you. It is quite a distance from the main interstate north, south travel route so this would be a destination campground. It is such a tremendous value. We had a full hook up site (electric, water, sewer), multi channel cable, very fast wifi and a tin roof covered picnic table. To top it all off, it is a short walk to a lovely beach or to the pier at the intercoastal. The check in staff was very helpful. In fact my husband was experiencing some eye problems and they were extremely helpful in finding proper medical care. Also, our motorhome was experiencing some mechanical problems and they worked with us with no hassles to adjust our departure date and provide a refund. The sites are gravel, somewhat spacious but they do slope to the rear. Our Verizon signal was exceptional and we were able to easily use our roof mounted satellite. The base exchange was very large and also the commissary was outstanding. Hated to leave this bit of paradise but hope to return soon. May 3-8 20122 of 2 people found the following review helpful
Decent sites with gravel. Water connection is located behind next site picnic areas. Cable TV is excellent. WiFi is excellent and responsive. Camp Host walks the entire CG at least 3 times a day and is ready to assist in info. Temp CG office is South of CG. New Temp Mini-mart is convenient if you don't want to drive to the MCX/Commissary which is not exactly around the corner. Head/shower facilities very clean. Laundry facilities also clean. Ocean breeze is very nice and cool during the day and makes for ideal sleeping weather. Boat traffic on the ICW is nice to watch. Office asked about dog but didn't require proof of shots even though I had the entire record. This CG is great for relaxing and tanning on the beach. Highly recommended. EDI left this review using the Directory software: - This is a real stickler! I stayed on Military Campgrounds all across the country and never had a problem with my dogs. This place requires that you present actual shot records from the vet. I am all for having pets shots up to date but you had better have your shot records with you or you will not be allowed to stay. Loved the fenced Dog Run! Nov 1 to Nov 30 20110 of 0 people found the following review helpful
I'm not a number rater, either I like a campground or I don"t. Well, I like this famcamp! Fishing, beaches, Great people, Full hookups (all of them). Will certainly come here again. Oct. 24 to Nov. 7, 20112 of 2 people found the following review helpful
This is an awesome campground. Stayed here 2 weeks in the off season. The park and facilities were spotless. Friendly staff to assist your needs. You are right next to the beach and can hear the ocean at night. Can't beat the price. As stated previously go over the draw bridge and turn right to check in. They are in the process of building a new beach bx/annex. Main exchange and commissary is on the mainland about a 20 to 30 minute ride. Base traffic is very heavy at times so expect delays. If entering from main gate off NC24 travel about a mile or better to Sneads Ferry Rd on left look for signs to Onslow Beach. This is a very active Marine Camp so you can expect to hear and see Marines training. During our stay they were firing 155's about a half a mile from the campground and Ospry helos were flying overhead day and night. I am not complaining as this was music to my ears but let the spouse know there will be some noise and some nights into the wee hours of the morning. During your stay be sure to check out the $3.00 movies on base also a well stocked commissary with great prices. Oct 21 - Nov 4, 20112 of 2 people found the following review helpful
Just stayed for two weeks that ended Nov 4th. It was great as usual. My wife and I both love it there. They have changed one thing. Now from Nov thru March you can rent for a month or more and get an additional 10% off. The only drawback we had was the Wi-Fi was slow this time. I've heard that they have had problems since the Hurricane. Still the best bang for the buck. 15-30 Sept 20110 of 0 people found the following review helpful
I was able to stay an extra day normally it is 14 days but on the off season you can stay longer if there is opening. I enjoyed the hospitality, the Atlantic Ocean which is only about 75 yards with swimming, sunning, surf fishing (10 days for 10 dollars) or you can fish off the pier in the Intercoastal Waterway the PX/Commissary is great with plenty of activities right on the base. I would mention the WIFI is not working well since the Hurricane but Cable is great. All in All I wouldn't hesitate to come back. 25 Sept to Present (Sept 27, 2011)1 of 1 people found the following review helpful
Fantastic as always. Posting mainly to advise that the check-in office is not in its usual place behind the (temporarily closed) exchange. After you cross the bridge turn RIGHT and go to the end of the parking lot where you will see the temporary office. Plenty of maneuver room, at least in the off season. Currently staying here and loving it. The beach is very close to RV park. We have to drive a bit to the park we use to take our dogs but the fact that you can is awesome. Very friendly and helpful staff. Only drawback is the very loud beeper that goes off every time someone goes into the ladies bathroom. Will certainly come here again. Still have 3 nights left in our current stay. Pros: wonderful people here, beach is CLOSE. Ran on the beach 2 days in a row and jumped in the ocean after, walked 75 yards back to RV. Can't beat that! Cons: Beach exchange has been closed now for an hour, not to open again until next season. Regrets: cannot stay longer. 9 Jul 11 thru 23 July 20112 of 2 people found the following review helpful
WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We loved this campground! The staff is really friendly and helpful. They are building stuff all over Lejeune. The MCExchange is undergoing a facelift but still well stocked. Should be finished by the fall. I got a chance to play golf on one of the 2 courses there and it is well maintained. Best days to play are Monday thru Wednesday. If you have never been to the protestant chapel you should make the time to go. The windows are beautiful!!! Each Marine Division is represented with the major battles fought and their parton Saint. If you are coming from the south you can get to Onslow Beach off Rte 172 and miss the base traffic. We plan to go again next year. July 16-18, 20110 of 0 people found the following review helpful
Still a great CG. They are in the middle of getting a new office building so for now they are in a temporary building to the RIGHT. Look for the signs right after you cross the bridge, otherwise if you follow the GPS, it takes you right to the vacant lot where the office used to be. Our only hitch was that the beach bath house now only has cold water...? The bath house in the CG had hot water for days. June 3-17 20110 of 0 people found the following review helpful
One of the best campgrounds we have experienced. The cost is excellent. We love meeting new people, and the beach is the best! The rules of the campground could be more consistently enforced. Office personnel all need to be told the rules, because there seems to be different interpretations. The rule for pet "pick up" needs to be enforced! One of the best Military RV parks we have stayed in. Beach is about 75 yards away. Good facilities in the park, catv, good water pressure. Only drawback is the occasional late-night Oprey and Helo ops but that is a truly minor drawback. Base is huge and has ample facilities. We have stayed at quite a few military rv parks and this one ranks up there in the top three. Getting reservation wasn't hard; in fact, we were able to extend our stay here. Would recommend it and will stay here again. We stayed from May 11-22, 2011. Excellent cable and wifi service. The price cant be beat. First time back in almost five years. Many additions since then. Paved roads and even tho the sites were still dirt they were very level and spacious. They have added Wi-Fi and Cable TV and still only charge $15 a night. Great place to visit. Will return next year but will stay longer next time. R.O. left this review using the Directory software: This was my first visit to Onslow Beach Campground. I was pleasantly surprised how much I enjoyed it. Staff was friendly and courteous. Restrooms were cleaned each morning and were in good repair. Pets are welcome. The pet beach is approximately 1/2 mile from the campground. Fishing in the inter coastal seems to be pretty good (I did not fish) a license in required. 30 Aug 20100 of 0 people found the following review helpful
Just keeps getting better. We had not been here for a year or so and were even more happy this time. Ocean a short walk on one side and Intercoastal Waterway on the other. New this trip was excellent, free, WiFI, and more pet friendly on the whole island. Used to be that pets could not leave the RV Park...had to be transported to the pet area. Now, on leash, with usual clean up rules, they can go anywhere except on the beach. One exception: they have a pet permitted beach area and informative signs point to it. The sites all have a pavilion next to them and they have level marl surface. Excellent electric, water and, even, cable TV (and the aforementioned wifi throughout the island). I've paid a lot more for a lot less!!! Pssst: 15/day!!! We took the MH down to the dog permitted beach area since there is ample parking. Made a nice day base camp. We got a 1 year permit to drive the Jeep on the beach but, it was closed for training while we were here. No big deal. I also liked hearing machine guns and artillery firing just a short distance away...like Music to this ole soldier. It only happens now and then....never disturbing. Great seeing the young Marines. Excellent PX, Class VI, Commissary about 20 min away. Would be remiss to not say that the staff were excellent. Host Curt was, as usual, most accommodating. Look up "Good deal" on wiki and you should find Onslow Beach. June 20100 of 0 people found the following review helpful
This was our second visit to Onslow Beach. The biggest asset of this CG is the beach. You really cannot ask for a better, bigger, cleaner beach experience. During the high season there are actually lifeguards posted at various locations. The sites themselves are Spartan. If you are looking for a beautiful site to camp, this is not it. The camp host friendly and helpful. We did not use the bathhouse because it smelled. That seems to be a common problem for many CGs. Don't know why. I have a 32' FW and had no trouble backing in. And I am not a great backer! 08-10 Jul 100 of 0 people found the following review helpful
Awesome! This was our first visit to a Marine Corps Base fam camp, the gate guards were great, opening an extra lane just for us to come through. Camp ground is clean, neat, and well organized. Less than a two minute walk to either the inter coastal waterway or the ocean side beach. Camp host was up at midnight when we arrived, knowing we were coming in late, and had us taken care of. The only thing I could possible complain about is that you have to see the whole base before you get to the camp ground...but well worth it. The only person that won't like it here is a person who hates being near the water. It rained on our second day (can't do anything about that), but that's how I found out that the wifi works lightning fast. We will definitely repeat visit and bring friends. |
