Stayed here as we moved to Fort Jackson for my new assignment while we waited on permanent housing. Was a little confused about the process of checking in, but after calling as we drove in went straight to the sites, found one we liked, parked, and then went to the office to check in. Very courteous staff. New sites are concrete pads with lighted power posts, old sites are asphalt that are better suited for a smaller camper. We lived out there for 2+ weeks while I in-processed and took over my new job until our on-post house was ready and we received our household goods. We kept the camper a few extra days out there for family to stay who visited for a couple of days. March 1 - 3, 2013 and March 13-15, 20130 of 0 people found the following review helpful
We really enjoyed Weston Lake. The sites are fairly close to each other, but it was low attendance both times. We came up to visit our son who was temporarily at Fort Jackson. The base is close and has a very nice exchange and commissary. There is a Food Lion just down the road from the campground and of course there's a WalMart near by. It was chilly during our visit, but the office sold good firewood. There was only one trail to hike, but basically it was nice just to walk around the lake and the campground. We had a very good experience and expect to return. Nov 10 and 11 20121 of 1 people found the following review helpful
We were thoroughly impressed with Weston Lake. After reading the previous reviews, we were a little leary, however, the trip there was outstanding. The staff was very friendly on check-in and made us welcome. PROS: The park along with directional signs, has obviously been upgraded from the reviews I have read. The area is picturesque. The lake with all the rental equipment is the center point of the park. The new RV sites have concrete pads with both 30 & 50 Amp service, water, cable and sewage located on an illuminated post so your spot # can be seen. There is plenty of room between neighbors and each of the new sites has a new table, grill and fire ring. CONS: Directions are poor. When exiting I-77 like we did, start following the signs for Hwy 262 (Leesburg Road). Once on Leesburg Rd, it is in fact 9.1 miles. Keep looking left for the sign for the park. The wifi is the other con. It worked good for the first couple of hours then went dead and was local only(?). A call to the staff reported that sometimes it drops out. Overall, a great stay in a clean, well maintained park with a lot of friendly people. We will be back in the summer with the grand kids. Thanks. Based on the previous reviews we decided to stop here overnight on our way north. The park was relatively easy to find and although it is a fair drive off the Interstate that was not an issue. However, once we were in the park the signage was inadequate to help us find the office to sign in. We finally found it and the sign in process was relatively easy. Our biggest problem was that the power level was very inadequate. The park has 50 Amp service, but although the park was less than 50% occupied, power was marginal at best. It was VERY hot the night we were there and we were only able to run our small a/c. In addition, the sites are not well marked and the map they gave us was very inadequate. Luckily another resident was able to direct us to our site. Although we travel this way every year, we won't be staying here again. June 8-11, 20120 of 0 people found the following review helpful
G.G. left this review using the Directory software: - First time at this campground. It's a bit out of the way, but the new sites are large and flat. They do need to update their check in procedures. They just opened their new building on the lake. Parking lot was full of people using the lake and picnic areas. There is no place to park a big rig. They didn't know what sites were available, so after check in we were told to go pick out a site then call them and let them know which site we were in. It would make more since to go pick out a site, drop the 5th wheel then go check in. We were told in the year since they opened the new sites they have never been full. 17-27 June 20120 of 1 people found the following review helpful
My wife and I just left the new campground. It is nothing like it was when I was last there 3 years ago. The facility is clean and well maintained. The staff was friendly and courteous and answered all my questions. All the homesteaders are gone and all camp sites were clean and most sites had satellite set up. Cable tv was also furnished with limited channels. Ft Jackson has added a new water park on post that is really nice and reasonable. It cost me, my wife and grandchild a total of $13.50 to get in. We heard very little firing on the ranges. We will definitely return there when we are in the area. May 24 - June 6 20122 of 2 people found the following review helpful
Stayed here 2 weeks. Very quite and relaxing, near the water. Has a small beach for swimming in the lake, fishing, & walking trails. Had water, electric, & sewer hookups at our site. Direct TV, Verizon cell & Internet worked great. Paid $ 11.00 per night. Campground in not on base, but not. Also not far from other shopping and dining out. No laundry at campground, but near by down Rt. 262. I'm not a numbers rater, either I like a FamCamp or not. Well I like this FamCamp. Will stay here again. We really enjoyed this famcamp, big sites, level concrete pads, view, water, quiet (except for much artillery). Only negatives would be longer drive to get to shopping, and the staff seemed pretty unhappy about something. April 2-6 20120 of 0 people found the following review helpful
We began our trip around the USA at this location. This was our very first camp site to shake out our new RV. The folks here were very friendly and they gave us our choice of site. We picked one of the newer upgraded sites that was equipped with a lighted electric box with TV cable, which was able to pick up 7 channels. Cost was $17.50. The lakeside view was fantastic as was the mountain biking "fire break" trails. There is allot of upgrades being done to the local area though. It was a long drive to Columbia to get to the shopping district too. November 4-6, 20111 of 1 people found the following review helpful
D.M. left this review using the Directory software: - I too had read the review from before 2011- MWR has made a HUGE improvement from 2009 and earlier- I had planned a 20 year Desert Storm Reunion at the Community building at Weston Lake - so the new RV sites worked out great-I have a 36ft Thor and we had cars parked on site and out of everybody's way easily- Yes, it is a ways back to main post-appox 7 miles to Semmes Rd entrance - but Leesburg Rd access is pretty quick(55mph)-Cabins on the lake -VERY Nice- $65 for fully furnished 2BR and $80 for 2BR with a loft= Folks in my group already made reservations for next summer(2012) We had a great time! Stayed at the new camp ground. Huge sites with full hook-ups, 30/50 AMP service, cable TV and WI-FI. The sites have large concrete pads that are level. Everyone was helpful and wanted to make sure our stay was enjoyable. The only draw back is how far you have to travel to use the base facilities. It's about a 20 mile round trip to the PX and commissary. July 23,20111 of 1 people found the following review helpful
We spent one night here while we were traveling to FL. If you want a campground near “planes, trains and automobiles” this is not the place. This is a very peaceful and nice campground. Each RV spot has new level concrete pads, new fire rings, new elevated grills and nice electric/water hookups. The campground is well shaded. They were working on the cable when we visited so it was not operational. Each site had 30/50 service. We were in an RV so we did not user the bath house. We were driving a 37 foot RV pullng a car and did not have any problems driving in the campground. This campground is a little out of the way but well worth the stop. This was our first visit to Ft. Jackson but won’t be out last. What else can you say other than this might very well be the best Army Campground in the system. Great job to the MWR and staff at the Ft. Jackson campground. Arrived today and had a wonderful checkin experience. Very friendly staff - 21 brand new sites - quite and peaceful. How can you complain about staying on a lake with a beach, swimming, boating, fishing, hiking, full hookups - all for $17.50. So happy we did not go by the comments cuz we would have missed a wonderful campground. Jan - Feb 20112 of 2 people found the following review helpful
In reading the other writer's comments, one thing comes to mind; What do you want for $9-11 a night! It sits on a pretty little lake with loads of things for kids to do, parents to do, and even the family pet. Go for a walk! It's a wonderful place to walk or jog. The showers have hot water and the bathrooms are clean. But if you still aren't happy, wait awhile for the new campground to open. The prices will go up too, but I guess then the gripers will be happy. Feb.20105 of 5 people found the following review helpful
I am so mad at the commander of Fort Jackson. This could be such a jewel in the MWR campground system. Once again people in charge have been allowed to break every rule and there is no oversight. They had people who were living at the campgrounds or who had permanent vacation sites. One camper has a green house with fully grown plants in it. The staff was pleasant but who knows if they care, or told to go along. The bathrooms are cleaned by young people who do a quick job. Their job leaves alot to be desired. The roads in the campground are lousy and should be fixed. The sites aren't level or paved. When you look at the campground it feels and looks like no one has fixed anything in along time. MWR states that they care for our soldiers. This means current, retired, or disabled well shame on you MWR. Dec. 11-27, 20082 of 3 people found the following review helpful
Office personnel were very friendly and helpful. The gentleman by the name of Miles responds quickly to problems but getting the problem solved properly may be a different story. One camper found the dump at his site to be full or plugged up and drained his black tank onto the ground. Miles came out, looked at the mess and stated he was going to have someone pour something on the waste left on the ground....didn't happen. Another camper decided he/she no longer wanted their dump hose and dragged it (with waste inside) to the dumpster, placing it on the ground in front of the dumpster. When the trash people arrived to empty the dumpster, that's exactly what they did, emptied the dumpster and left the dump hose laying on the ground in front of the dumpster. This campground could really use some maintenance. Oct 6-7, 20082 of 3 people found the following review helpful
Typical Army Post campground. Poorly maintained, unlevel sites, dump station hard to get to and water not working. Lot of sites occupied by squatters. Entertained by loud blasting pop music most of the evening. It is located down the road from gate 5, sticker only, the civilian guards want you to go around to the main gate to get a temp pass. Best to stick with AF and Navy campgrounds, the Army thinks all campers are still in boot camp. June 11 20081 of 2 people found the following review helpful
This was just a drive by since i was in the aera on business. Found this place to be dirty and totaly out of date. They have plenty of room to expand and improve. All but a few sites looked like homesteaders. One site is occupied by a log cabin type trailer on wheels. The type you would see permently on a lake lot for a weekend get away. Regular grills, refrigerators, tables and everthing one would find in a bad trailer park. The sites need repair and upgrading. Nice park area with swimming beach but as you drive thru the park everything looks nice untill you see the RV park(Trailer park) a total eyesore. Help!!! this place could be nice, with upgrading and proper management. April 2 to 11, 20081 of 1 people found the following review helpful
The staff at checkin were very friendly and helpful. I enjoyed my stay here altho I did not do any sightseeing. The gate to the base was about 5 or 6 miles from the campground, but very easy to get to. The commissary was one of the best I have seen. Very well stocked and clean. When I left, staff stated that they hope to have more/better campsites next year if I were to come back. There were a few leaky faucets, but other than that, no problems. The pads at the campsites were small, but ok. I did not go into any of the cabins, but they all looked in very good shape with the exception of one of the "park model" cabins. Over the weekend, there was a group camping in the field of the South Carolina Path Finders. Wall to wall tents and young people. The did keep to the field area and were no bother to anyone in the campground. All in all, I enjoyed my stay and will probably stay there again. 29 March 20081 of 2 people found the following review helpful
R.R. left this review using the Directory software: We noticed a lack of recent reviews, so we took a day trip to this CG to collect new intel. Although it sits close to I-20 & I-26 & I-77, overnight travelers would do well to avoid it. The two staffers on duty were very friendly and one of them has worked there for quite some time. The staff says you still can't reserve a site and the CG remains full pretty much year-round, in part due to military parents whose kids who go through boot camp here. Yes, you can call ahead for expected departure dates but be warned: the staff only treats them as estimates, it's not set in stone. We saw no signs of a CG host. One lot had just opened up when we got there and a big bus ventured in to claim it, but we watched them turn around and leave. Even before we could take pictures of that lot, we literally had to step aside so another rig could claim it. This CG advertises 18 lots, but we watched a 19th guest back up his toy hauler RV beside a cabin. We suspect wandering visitors pose a problem here, as the CG sits right next to a community house that hosts weddings & parties. Its parking lot was crammed when we arrived and there was much merriment going on. This CG isn't "inside" Ft. Jackson, so there's unrestricted public access until 20:30L at which time they padlock a swing gate with a combination that changes twice each month. They'll give you the combo when you check in. Lots 1-6 now enjoy 50amp service, but I'd avoid lot #1 just so I don't have to put up with any gawkers at the community center. We honestly don't know if there's a stay limit (?!?) but the CG itself and the cabins look so run down that it may have disguised a homesteader or two. The spigot at lot #18 and the grill at lot #13 obviously got run over at some point. We suspect even the lot boundaries might not be enforced -- one guy spooled out enough coax to place his satdish in the front yard of a cabin. |
