Can't beat the location if you want to be near Savannah. The wooded area is nice but it is near a highway that can get noisy. But it was no problem. We have stickers on our motorhome and tow vehicle so it could not have been easier to get on base through the Rio Gate. The gate is open 24 hours. The grounds have been mowed and cleaned up but it is a bit sparse. The large trees were no problem for our satellite dish in site #2. There is no camphost or office nearby and no laundry. The campground has undergone an upgrade to the infrastructure with new concrete pads, new water faucets and electrical 30/50 amp posts. Many sites are pull throughs. We went over to the Outdoor Rec office to pay for our site which cost us $16/nite. We have a National Park pass which they acknowledged. Can't beat the proximity to Savannah. Perfect time of the season to be here. Few campers and no neighbor noise. Bass Pro Shop, Wal Mart, Target and other stores near by. We will be back.

After reading the previous reviews, we almost didn't stay here. This is a great location to visit Savannah and the surrounding areas. The sites have plenty of room. Our picnic table was dirty, but with just a little work it was in fine shape. Our satellite wouldn't pick up a signal because of the trees, but the cable service provided many channels. We enjoyed walking and playing golf on base. Overall we enjoyed our stay here and if in the area again, we would stay here.

If you have a sticker on your camper you can enter via rio gate - if not, expect a long drive on the perimeter road and the trees are just the right height to twang your antennae but not low enough to do any damage. The campground is in need of a good cleaning and mowing, agree with former posters that we (the users) need to do our part and leave it cleaner than we arrived. It is very quiet here most of the time, you are near a hospital (off the base) and the occasional siren will break the silence. It is very crowded right now, all but two sites are in use, snow birds going home I suspect. With a big rig, the "pull-thru" option does test your skills on some of the sites. I'm in site 6 which is a back in as are about 5 others. Overall a great option if you're visiting Savannah or traveling North on 95. Don't forget to show your "America the beautiful" or Senior pass to get another $2 off the usual fee.

Park has not changed from last year except lack of active on-site host. Weeds are not cut back. Cable TV was converted to Verizon and it is very basic. Over air TV, we got 9 channels. Office personnel very friendly and helpful. Campground needs attention. Many campers had no idea where office was which could be easily resolved by on-site host. We like this campground for its location. Price was raised from our stay of last year which did not reflect in any improvement in the campground or ammenities. I also agree with comments by sbaker, we need to ensure we clean up after ourselves as a courtesy for the campers that will utilize the facilities behind us. Lets not ruin a good thing. Remember to visit the Exchange/Commissary while here.

Tables could be pressure washed and concrete pads blown off. The worst was the fact that the fire pit was full of garbage. I would say this is fault of campers not facility! It's a fire pit people. I see alot of people complaining about cleanliness of the campgrounds but how about taking a little responsibility and clean up after ourselves. OK. Very quiet and peaceful. Nicely wooded. Stayed at site #9. Cable not working. (took $2 per night off) If you don't have DoD sticker on your vehicle, you have to go through Montgomery Rd gate. (can get temp pass here also) Motorcycle riders make sure you have reflective vest (not belt) and ALL of your info. Overall, great stay. 3 stars for cleanliness/hospitality: No host.

We stayed here before and things have not improved. The cable system is terrible. 8 channels and 4 of them are infomercials. Comcast is the provider and should be ashamed. The sites were good but the tables could stand a good cleaning and the concrete pads should be blown off occasionally. Why not have a volunteer host to stay at site 16 (the 1st one on the left) to accept payments, and do what a host would do? It would mean the loss of one site but would make it so much more convenient for the customer. Still the same on paying except this time I was told they would accept Golden Age Card which made the payment $18 instead of $25. I would hope that the cleanliness of the campground will improve in the future. This can be a beautiful campground with a little help.

Stayed 3 nights. Very convenient to downtown Savannah. Sites have good space between them. Campground was clean with concrete patios and new power pedestals. No restrooms but we use our own facilities. Lots of shade trees. Relatively quiet. Savannah Mall and other shopping right outside Rio gate. Must have DoD decals on your vehicles (including MH) to use Rio gate which is open 24/7. No staff at the RV park. Must check in and pay at MWR Outdoor Rec office. Directions to MWR: Leave campground and turn left on Rio Rd. Turn right on Perimeter Rd. Go 1.2 miles and turn left on Stratofortress Rd (follow signs to skeet shooting range). The office is at the end of Stratofortress Rd.

Well we missed the turn at the gate. We went about a mile to the end of the road and looped thru the park there and returned to the campground. There were no directions about how to check in. I found a camper that told me to pick out at site and set up. Then go to the office and check in. The office was a little hard to find and the credit card machine was broke. The staff was real friendly and helpful. The price had gone up to $25 a night without Wi-Fi. We had just left Camp Lejeune that had everything for $15 per night. The site was real nice and the hookups were great. Overall, we will stay again.

Pros: Absolutely close to everything, Walmart, Target, Library, banks, Savannah. Liked the location from the gate. Cons: When We came in, there was no info as to where to pay. When we did find the MWR we were told that there was no credit cards or checks, cash only. Also there was no receipt given. (Kinda fishy to me) When asked about the Golden Age was told "NOT HERE". So we paid $25.00 per night (IMHO quite expensive as compared to other campgrounds). The Cable TV only offered about 12 stations with 6 of them being educational, weather and selling stuff. I can't imagine what the roads would be in the heavy rains. They really need to be paved. I doubt that we will be back unless we hear on the forums that there is an improvement in the pricing.

What a great place! Tree cutting is still going on. We had to move on Monday, but they worked with us since we were leaving that day. The campground is right inside the gate, and the facilities are great. We have a 43 foot tag axle and had no problem turning in after the gate and maneuvering into the campground. We had bad weather while there and they came by and knocked on the door to make sure we knew to button down the hatches. We will definitely be staying there next time we are in Savannah!

Hi Everyone! This is Herschel Schenck the former Campground Manager for Lott's Island R.V. Park. I am now at Ft.Sam Houston, San Antonio, Tx, but I am no longer working in the same type of career. I want to thank all the kind campers who encouraged me and said so many kind words about the services that I provided to them as they stayed with us. Also, I would like to mention that in the past we have had some issues with falling tree branches, but we have called in an expert arborist and tree surgeons to begin a step by step program to restore the health of stressed trees and remove dead ones. Do to clearing the land the trees were shocked, but now a 5 year plan has begun to start the process! Branches may always fall, but we have greatly reduced the incidents to 99%! Thanks again! Herschel Schenck (daisamurai7@yahoo.com)

P.M. left this review using the Directory software: This is a rustic campground with no additional facilities. It has a fantastic camp host BUT HE (Hershel) IS LEAVING. Terrific location just inside the gate and super-convenient to lots of places. We could not get a satellite connection due to the trees but there is a VERY BASIC cable connection.

Hershel goes beyond his job description. I contacted him as I was leaving I95 and he waited at the gate for me. He came by every day to ensure we didn't have any problems. Due to some tree trimming the park was partially closed but he squeezed us in. The hookups are new and clean. The spaces are hard dirt. Cable available channels are garbage unless you like shopping. Location of stores and restaurants is excellent. Lack of showers/restrooms not a big deal we used our motorhome facilities. Early morning walks to park/marina are refreshing but do use bug repellent. I plan on staying there on my return trip to Florida. Nice little campground and great location for exploring Savannah.

We called twice trying to find out if they had spaces available. Both times the responses we received were "I don't know." The first time the female said that 1/2 the sites are closed for renovation and she didn't know how many campers were in the campground or if any sites were open. She said she'd have to talk to her boss to "find out what was going on" and we could call back. We called back and she knew nothing more than before. She said her boss did not know how many sites were taken or if any sites were available. She was not at all helpful and made no attempt to be helpful. We stayed at Holbrook Pond on Ft Stewart instead. The young woman at Holdbrook told us the sites at Lotts were now all open. On 11 July we drove to Lotts to look it over. None of the sites were marked closed and all appeared to be usable. The campground had that run down look and needed mowing and some upkeep. Some issues to watch for if a person decides to stay at Lotts. When coming in the gate the turn is tight if you have a big rig. Quite a few of the sites would be difficult if not impossible to get into if a person has a big rig. Trees are close to the site so backing into the sites could present a problem particularly if someone is camped across from the site. Other sites are pull thru and would present no problems.

I don't know what people on here are smoking. Hershel never helps anyone. He has been promising cable with no results. They even say you will have internet, that's a joke. Grass always needs mowed, and you can never find Hershel when you need him. Maybe he's sleeping in that camper that provides no service. Don't worry about the MWR boss, he will not help either. He probably doesn't even know where the campground is, since he never leaves his desk. Stay at the KOA, at least they offer what your paying for. Hersehel must be leaving all these remarks for himself on here.

This is a new RV Park. Savannah has come a long way from the old RV park. No Facilities yet, but in the making. If you don't have reservations you will have to go to the outdoor Rec, they are closed Wednesday and Thursday. There is a host during the day, but not at night. Great place to stay for retirees. Cannot beat the price.

T.M. left this review using the Directory software: - We stayed at the old RV park several years ago and were very surprised at the new park. Although more updates are still in the planning stage, for self contained units the current set up is GREAT. We had no problems with the 50 amp electrical hookup, water, sewer or cable TV connections. Now that road construction is completed, it is a breeze to wisk from the interstate right to the campground entry point. Added to that is the fact the Rio Road gate is now open 24/7. The resident manager, Herschel Schenck, was super friendly and bubbled with enthusiasm about the campground and its future. He had hand drawn sketch maps to guide us around post and made sure we knew where the base dinning facility was located as it is now open to retirees (we ate a most enjoyable lunch there). Will definitely be returning and much sooner than after our first visit made years ago.

Visited during St. Patties day holiday, had a great time. Several Malls out side the gate, retires can eat at the mess hall. $12 a night stay with Golden access card, water sewer, elect, and cable TV, concrete pad with picnic table, hard to top this bargain. No showers, no club house, washer dryer, PX, commissary on base, stone lots. Nick, and Hershel from MWR are there to make your stay enjoyable, and will help in any way they can. 30 day storage for RV $10 top that. $40 for 30 days for undercover storage. 14 day stay, allowed then must be away 30 days . They are on their way to being one of the best kept secrets to stay of Military Camp Grounds. Don't miss, and now they take reservations. Great park, boat dock, picnic area on Lotts Island 1 mile away.
