We stayed three days and got a great campsite. We were right on the water and had a campfire. The staff had cut firewood stacked nearby which was a nice touch. The campground had been recently mowed and the grounds were in great shape. The lake was down but we saw a few boaters and fishermen and saw a guy catch a big one 100 yards away. The laundry is good although it is ways from the campground. Plenty of parking and a good turn around point for checking in before heading to the assigned campsite. My Verizon Mifi worked fine. My AT&T did not work. The campground is 35 miles away from Augusta and Fort Gordon so it takes a while to get there. We went downtown to the Visitor Center and played golf at Fort Gordon one day. The golf course is a real gem and was in great shape. We camped in a 40' MH.

We have stayed here several times, and it is always a great time. The management of this facility should be commended, as well as the staff. Upon our arrival we were greeted by Crystal James and although she was very busy with many customers, she was polite, efficient and very helpful! The lake is down but not much the camp can do about that!

The only thing I have to say is that the sites were crammed in a little close for my liking. For the price I can't complain to much. I enjoyed the stay while mom and daughter were prepping for the wedding in nearby Thomson. Overall nice place but wish they would get lots of rain to fill the lake back up to its original levels.

Stayed here 5 days. Very quite and relaxing, Water is everywhere. Has a small beach for swimming in the lake, fishing, & walking trails. Had water, electric, & sewer hookups at our site. Direct TV, Verizon cell & Internet worked great. Paid $ 12.00 per night. Campground in not on base, but not far. Also not far from other shopping and dining out. I don't consider 15 miles far. Has a small store at campground, basics only. Had laundry at campground .50 wash & dry, and it still leaks. I'm not a numbers rater, either I like a FamCamp or not. Well I like this FamCamp. Will stay here again.

Had a real good stay on our first attempt at RV'ing. Rented canoes for $3 an hour, had a fire ring and lots of firewood available. We had a full hookup at the site, and the kids could walk down and fish from where we could see them. They didn't catch anything, but that is probably just using the wrong bait. No cell phone 3G service (did get AT&T EDGE, so it was a bit slow, but doable). It is a bit of a drive if you want to get something to eat or go to a grocery store. The staff was very helpful and we were pleased with how well the site was kept up.

Decent facilities, clean, well stocked bathrooms. Sites range from good size to small. Not all sites suitable for longer RV. Main roads are paved but drives leading into camp sites are gravel/dirt and can get dusty or muddy depending on weather. Tents mixed in with RV's on full hook up sites but lots of sites available this time of year. There was firewood stacked up at each camping area, looked to be 9 separate areas for camping, water view from a lot of the sites. There is a small camp store, don't expect much, looked quite bare considering the number of camp sites, cabins and rental RV's available. They do rent boats, canoes and other recreational items. Overall a good CG and only about 30 minutes from Augusta.

We arrived on Christmas Eve, 2011 for a 30 day stay. Having stayed here before we knew how to get here and hoped our favorite space was empty and waiting for us. To our delight, the office was open and cheerfully staffed, even though it was Christmas Eve afternoon! The winter season is a discount season, we paid $10 per night for a full hook-up site, Merry Christmas! That's from the beginning price of $18. We were given discount ($6) for our being seniors, and ($2) for it being winter. Winter discount stops end of February. If you come during the winter, expect a skeleton crew, few people, facilities needing attention (cleaning) and mild weather. We regard this camp as one of the best kept secrets (not anymore after this writing) for winter RV'ing. The new manager has been able to put many $$ into new facilities and upgrades. We stayed in section 2 in a 5th wheel. We have a Porta-Bote and launch it from our camp-site, perfect! Did not catch fish, though, as we did in fall of 2008. NOTE: This park has a 30 day in, then 30 day out policy. Leitner Lake on Ft. Gordon is a great place for the other 30 days, it's been improved, too!

Just did an overnight here on my way to Florida. This is a beautiful campground. I asked for a pull thru site and they assigned me one that was back in. After maneuvering around the trees into the site I find out that the electric, water and sewer connections had been installed on the wrong side of the campsite as if it were a pull thru. However, they told me I could pick any site if that one did not work. The campground is not really big rig friendly but I did manage to get it. At $12 a night and the beautiful area I would say this is a great campground.

Loved this RV site. Right on the lake. We carried our inflatable kayaks to the shore & off we went. Only have a 20' trailer so site was plenty big. Camp & restrooms clean. With less campers at this time year, of course things are better maintained. The view & the sunsets will always be remembered. There is a hiking trail, but not well maintained.

First time visiting this campground and let me start by saying if you are into boating this is the place for you. After arriving we were placed in a site way too small for my trailer (34ft.) went back to office and given a second site, still too small. went back a third time and was went to area # 2, 90% of the sites had cars and trucks parked in it with boat trailers and they were all camping spots, several had tents in a full hook up site; had to settle for a site way in the front just so I can get into one. Now..took a ride around the entire place, not too clean, most of the tent sites had trash on the ground, grass uncut, my site had trash on the ground also. The saving factor was the price, very good for such a large park, and it is very quiet. Would I return to this campground? most likely not....

Close to home, camped here before. Went there for shake down camp with my new (to me) trailer. had choice of area 2 or 3, went with three because closer to beach and it was my son's 16th birthday, took him and his two friends. spots are level, which they made effort to make them that way on hilly terrain. great view of the lake. no WiFi at site or cable, but great park and great location. my favorite local spot for camping.

Beautiful facilities and outstanding surroundings for the outdoors. Very quiet area, and great hookup accommodations even if it was below freezing at night. We did get a satellite signal but only in spot 4G. Would like to stay longer but was traveling through. The park itself is very clean and surrounded by the lake of about 1000 miles of shoreline. BIG is the word here! Would stay there again.

Only complaint is that it is far away from I20, but I didn't research it good enough for a 1 night stay in route somewhere else. This camp is great for someone that likes fishing and just the outdoors. The big lake is almost at your front door. If you have lots of time to just relax or fish, this is the place. When I have more time to stay I will be back, just not for 1 night.

May be big rig friendly but certainly not little rig friendly. We were put a quarter of a mile from a bath house and the nearest water was at the bath house. Electric gave us trouble. Old wiring and bad connections caused A/C to trip breakers frequently. Will pass it up next time. I guess all the places have been cutback on funds and its showing.

A pretty nice place. We didn't really take advantage of the facilities as it was just too hot & humid! Our oldest son is stationed at Ft. Gordon, so we spent all our time in AC! Our grandson enjoyed the "beach" at the lake. I saw the golf course on base & while it was just too humid for this desert rat to play it, it looked like a really nice one! The RV sites are "ok" & there are a lot of them & NOW that they TAKE RESERVATIONS, highly utilized! Thankfully when I called early on the 19th they had 2 sites left which I gladly gave them a credit card # to reserve one! It was a wooded one, in section 3, but no satellite capability because of the tall & thick pine trees. The next day a few weekend warriors left & I was able to get a more open site in section 2 over looking the lake. I noticed that a lot of sites were reserved for 30 days, but no one utilizing them. It seemed that they were weekend warriors wanting to make sure they had a site for the weekends. It can be a bummer for "us" retirees, but the Fam Camp gets the "bucks" for the entire 30 days! We will go back for several more visits as our son will be at Ft. Gordon for several yrs, but NOT in the summer!

T.L. left this review using the Directory software: Sites are dirt, some are pullthru, almost level. Roads in camping areas are mostly dirt good to fair condition. Other roads are paved in good condition. At site 3H I had to use my 50 amp pigtail adapter because the 30 amp receptacle was installed upside down.

The Park is NOT BIG RIG FRIENDLY!! with far too many trees to be able to park with the exception of a select few sites. The park worker (a black lady with MWR on her shirt,) told us to go and pick a place on Trout road. It was a small cramped place that had several open places ALL too small for a 36' big rig. The turn around wasn't big enough to turn around. I had to unhook and maneuver the rig so I could get out. I went to area 2 and selected a place, also very hard to get in. I went to pay and the MWR worker said that place was taken. I asked how could it be take and she said someone came in a few days before and paid for it. There was no notice on the site. The lady was very unprofessional and not "user friendly" with a bad attitude. They don't take reservations but there were many sites that were empty with reservation slips on the sites. Never again!!

We called and spoke with Ruth and she said they were full with the exception of a few sites with only electricity. She said that they do not take reservations that it was first come first served at all times. We were willing to go for that, after all it was a holiday weekend starting. When we arrived, we were greeted by Ruth and Larry and they were very helpful. They both told us they would check and see if there was a possibility of a site with full hook-ups available. We waited a few minutes and Ruth came out with the "good news". She said they had checked and there was one empty site with full h/u. We were happy. We paid for 5 nights, she fixed us up with a little plastic bag to hang on the pole at our assigned sight. We drove to it and found there was one already hanging on the pole. We just got out to unhook the car so that we could back the MoHo in when Larry drove up and told us that he had made a mistake and that someone was already checked into the sight, their "reservation" had already began. Slip of the tongue I'm sure. So we drove back to the office to get changed to a partial hook-up site. Ruth said she was so sorry. I told her that I understand how difficult it is to keep up with so many reservations. Both she and Larry came back with "we don't accept reservations". I said maybe that was the wrong word. If you pay in advance and hang your little plastic bag with the paperwork inside on the pole the site is yours, but it's not a reservation.
There were 5 sites not reserved when we arrived. Then Larry told us that he didn't think the site would be big enough for our rig. Sure enough it wasn't. They refunded our money and said "sorry". Larry called and checked on Leitner Lake on Post to see if they had any sites and they said yes and that they would hold one for us. For that review you'll have to look at the Leitner Lake site. Oh boy.
