We didn't stay here but took a field trip to check things out. In the past my opinions have been mostly negative. On this trip I must say that this place has changed so much that I may in the future consider coming here even though I like to have a confirmed reservation and they don't take reservations here. There were no sites that looked trashy and they appeared neat and clean. A big improvement from my last visits. I counted 26 vacant sites and this was the week before Easter. We drove out again the Tuesday after Easter and also counted 26 vacant sites. Postl Point only had one site but I probably wouldn't stay there. So. Overall, Eglin Famcamp is looking good. Enjoying our stay here.... Laundry/restrooms are nice & clean. Wi-Fy isn't working...struck by lightning a few weeks ago & not fixed yet. CG about half full, sites not too level but OK, mostly pull thrus. I like the concrete picnic table & pad. Nice trails around base. Will stay here again if in the area. Plenty of room to move to maneuver around CG. Stayed here in a 39' 5th wheel. March 18-21, 20130 of 0 people found the following review helpful
My daughters (8 & 11) and I tent camped here. Camp ground was lightly populated (guessing less than 50% of RV spots were occupied - total of three tents up including ours). Bathroom and laundry facilities very good/clean. Excellent trail, dirt road, and biking/walking paths on base for kids. Not much just outside the E/W gates. The air museum is great. Intended to stay at the campsite, but since it was a first come first served affair, I did not want to take a chance and not have room. So I went and stayed at the Army RV park in Destin. One recommendation I would make is for Eglin to accept reservations. If I could have made reservations, I would have stayed on Eglin. As it turned out, there was plenty of space available, even though when I have called the folks at the desk said that it was the "snowbird" season and it would be busy. Stopped by the office October 2, 2012 which is down to one person so the open hours are still limited and no plans to expand the WIFI beyond the office area. She did say that COX Cable had been there in the spring to get ready to install cable but nothing else has happened. August 20120 of 1 people found the following review helpful
The Postal Point Campground had no sewer hookups and after heavy rains the campground was mostly flooded. I thought with the water laying around the camp sites made it a safety risk while hooking up the electric. We stayed a week at the Famcamp. It was close to the Exchange/Commissary. The camp sites were big and plenty of space between sites. The office staff were real friendly and very helpful. A few negatives is there was no internet service at the camp sites. You had to go to the office to use the internet and the office was only open 9 to 4 Mon thru Fri and to 12 noon on the weekends. Only got 6 TV stations and the reception to those was poor. The campground looked fairly new. Don't understand why cable TV wasn't installed. The biggest thing to me was I saw two of the biggest cotton mouths of my life. 15 thru 23 May 20123 of 3 people found the following review helpful
This was the first time I've been to Eglin FamCamp where we spent a week, on Postl Point. I was a little hesitant after reading some other reviews and the "spartan, but clean restrooms", but I'm so glad I took the chance. This place was a gem! They've remodeled the restrooms and showers, new tile, fixtures and air conditioning, and they've also upgraded the electrical connections to 30 and 50 amp. Even over the weekend there were never more than 12 spots filled and two of those appeared to be preset rental units, I never saw anyone at those sites the entire week. We set up on site #101, right in front, looking out over the bay. True, this spot is a little distant from the BX/Commissary, but I'll take that for the solitude and beauty, plus, it's an easy walk to the small beach (if you want to swim in the bay). The equipment rental office is located right next to the beach and you could buy soft drinks, beer, ice and snacks right there. Fairly easy access to the East Gate shopette. I didn't know it until I'd arrived, but Eglin also has a beautiful private beach right on the Gulf, located on Okaloosa Island, $3 admission during the week, $5 on weekends. True, it was 20 miles from the campground, but then you're also right there with all the great restaurants. I will be going back and I highly recommend this little jewel. We didn't stay here but after visiting the exchange/commissary decided to take a look around. It was a challenge getting to the campground as they are repaving the access road. It was good seeing the boys in blue doing the work instead of contractors. The overflow and picnic area looks to be closed and used for equipment parking. In the past I've been pretty hard on this campground but this time things looked so much better. I didn't see the trashy sites as I have before. I counted 27 vacant sites. I probably would stay here but I like to have a confirmed reservation when I travel this time of the year in this area. I didn't go to Postl Point this time as I've checked it out before and probably wouldn't stay there. 3 Mar to 23 April, 20120 of 0 people found the following review helpful
Such a nice park to be less than half full. Too many complaints by fellow campers stating they would not return to the park. Rules are rules, however enforcing them at this park is overkill. Additional comments will be added to clarify my ratings. We won't be staying at this park again. Mar 13 - 14, 20120 of 1 people found the following review helpful
L.R. left this review using the Directory software: - Only stayed 2 nights. "Have Wifi when it works"; did not work the time I was there. Crews in process of paving access road TO park, don't know if they will do gravel in park. Quiet and ok for short stays. "Social life" not determined in my short stay. Rule list is long but not uncommon for most CGs. 6 APRIL - 6 MARCH, 20120 of 0 people found the following review helpful
I'm not a number rater, either I like a campground or I don"t. Well, I like this famcamp! Great people, Full hookups (all of them). Very quite except for the sounds of freedom. Will certainly come here again. August 20113 of 3 people found the following review helpful
Eglin had 2 separate RV sites to choose from. Robbins had full hook and internet, no cable but close to the laundry and rv office. It's basically in the woods. Postal point had an ocean view, cable tv, showers, no internet, cable tv, no sewage hook up. We chose postal point because we were only staying 3 days and had our own internet (miFi2200). Some of the postal point sites were sort of flooded with about a half inch of water because of the rain. The cable connection was missing at our site so we chose another and parked with an ocean view. Both sites were very spacious for pull throughs. I recommend looking at both sites before you select one. 7-16 July 20114 of 4 people found the following review helpful
R.N. left this review using the Directory software: Campsites were spacious and level. Some of the tree branches needed to be trimmed or rubbed against your rig. Very little grass area with sand burrs. July 12th to 13th, 20114 of 4 people found the following review helpful
Camp Robbins has uneven concrete pads, no WiFi, poor tasting water, and a LONG list of rules. We will not come back again. It is not user friendly, but the bathrooms were nice and clean. Getting around the base was difficult for a newbie. It was fun to hear and see the fighter jets fly overhead in the morning. April 3 - 6 20112 of 3 people found the following review helpful
The park hasn't changed since the last time we here. I was told that the rates are going up by the end of the summer. The reason is that the civilian park owners are complaining that the base is taking away their business. No improvements are scheduled so no cable. It's a nice place to spend a few days to do FT. Walton and Destin every once in a while. I'll come back in a few years when I want to do the area. January 20114 of 4 people found the following review helpful
About 20 empty spots every day, unlike past years when park was full. Lots of negativity among campers about the staff except Darryl who was well liked. Seems to have been a lot of turnover in recent years. Close to BX and Commissary and not too far from the Gulf and Destin. When here in Nov/Dec 2009, was told that cable installation had been approved and financing was in place, but no cable and no talk of it anymore. Made a friend who stayed in February. She said FSS had a meeting with the campers. They were told, among other things, that MWR was requesting a monthly rate increase from $400 to $475, but didn't know if it would be approved. Nice place but 1/2 empty. Staff friendly and working to improve sites. BX is in walking distance. Close to Destin with lots of things to do off base. Not much to do at campsite. It would be nice to have a dog walk park. Great place to stay. Nov 1 - Dec 1, 20101 of 1 people found the following review helpful
This is a good campground. Our major complaint is that where there is no cable tv - there is NO tv. It is impossible to get a signal for tv with antenna. The phone service is poor as well. But these things have nothing to do with the c/g. January, February 20104 of 4 people found the following review helpful
My husband says that he pulled me away from Camp Robbins kicking and screaming when we had to go home on business. We loved walking daily by the nearby bay and watching the pelicans and other birds, even dolphins one time. The staff were very, very helpful and caring. The site was large and clean. The whole park was attractive and quiet, and the other campers were friendly. I had a feeling of community. Wish I were there still. Next time. It has been interesting reading some of the previous comments. It seems some folks expect a full-blown private resort and if not, they're going to complain about the grass, about the noise, about the rules and about the sites. Actually, there should be two separate review sections because there are actually two parks. Rules are in place for a reason ... and, actually, it's to make the experience enjoyable for everyone. We are currently at Camp Robbins and have been here for several days. It's a great park with huge sites. Some are back-in and some are pull-thru. The managers (I think they are fairly new) are absolutely fantastic!! They are friendly, out-going and want to do almost anything to please. The park is almost right on the bay with trails leading from the campsites to the beach. Love the park .. love the convenience and love the management. Thank you for a good experience. Satellite is excellent, internet is excellent and we would definitely return if in the area. |
