We did not know that this FamCam existed until we went to the visitor center in Fort Walton Beach. A volunteer who was ex military guided us expertly. Luckily a vacancy was available and we loved it. We paid $20 for the night. No commissary etc, but that's OK. A diamond in the rough for us, but a staple for anyone who is local.

We were in the area and just dropped in for a checkup. We stayed here I think about 5 years ago. At that time we found the sites a little small for large units and decided we probably wouldn't stay here again. They do have some larger sites on the ends that would be fine but for some reason they save them for the smaller units. I was hoping they would have found a way to enlarge the sites but seems impossible. I'm not going to knock it to much. It's a nice park, just not right for us. It appears to be a great place for families.

The park is a little tight and I wouldn't call it big rig friendly, however we were able to get our 40' 5'er backed into site #33 with just a little maneuvering. The folks in the office are fantastic who go "above & beyond" to make your stay pleasurable. Be careful driving in the park as there are a lot of kids riding their bikes and playing. Rules for dogs are not enforced as they should. Dogs are left tied up with no one at the site, several off-leash and some folks don't pick up after their animals. We got a solid Verizon 4G signal and our rooftop satellite got a good Directv signal as well. We will be back.

We were not going to stay here but decided to when we could make reservations. That is a real plus. I found out I could make them on Facebook which is great. We are getting our RV repaired in Fort Walton Beach at Fleet Maintenance and waiting for the part to come in a few days. The major issue I have with this campground is the tight quarters. It is almost claustrophobic. Very tight turns and really no space between sites. The facility is co located with suites and rooms and they have really jammed a lot onto this property. Last year we were here at this time and the front office area had all kinds of T-Shirts, sweatshirts and souvenirs. Not sure what happened this year by there is nothing here. Like empty nothing. Word is that "we have everything on order". If we could have made reservations at Hurlburt Field we would have done so and not stayed here. Still, the location is great, the price is right and the scenery of nearby Choctahathee Bay is great. We could do worse. It was OK here, just not my favorite. We may be back but not sure. We camped in a 40' motor home.

RV spaces are old and not made for todays large vehicles but we were still able to park our 37ft 5th Wheel here. The rest of the area seems to be well taken care of. WIFI was only at the office/Conference Center but no problems hooking up and using. Staff was great and very helpful. Would have no problems coming back to this area again.

It was our first time at this location, and although the sites are close together, they are not too bad. The grounds are very nice and clean, and the staff is very helpful and nice. Overall, it was a very pleasant stay for us. I do wish that some of the equipment would be available, such as bicycles, and kayaks up at least until after Christmas.

Well just arrived and pulled up to security gate, she saw us and popped it open then went inside to check in, $19 a night for 50amp, cable & full hookup. Looped around the corner, plenty of room and then got to my spot, disconnect the toad and backed right in with tons of space for my 37'er, Showers are awesome, super pressure and tons of scolding water, laundry .75 per, nice pool and splash park for kids I might play also. NO WI-FI, other than in main conference room and a small spot by the showers and pool, that's why I gave a 4 for amenities. Fishing Pier and charter boats and waverunners available right here. I made reservations for all of Jan 2013. Come on by and we'll charter a boat for a fishing excursion and split the fee, lol.

We have stayed at Destin before and just recently visited the area. Many improvements have been made, such as the new water park and pool. Great place to vacation for the military. I get a kick out of all the complainers especially the ones about the RV sites. Read the info about the RV park on their site, it tells you about the size of parking spaces and it is a small area. Read the info and you won't be surprised when you get there.

We were at Mid-Bay Shores and decided to drive over here to check things out. We had stayed here 4 years ago and I had said then that I would never stay here again. They are not big rig friendly and today they are still not. The sites are just too tight to get into. They do have a couple of end sites that are a little more roomier but 4 years ago for some reason they were empty but not available to me. I figured they were saving them for friends. This is overall a very nice resort also with cottages and a motel type facility. It is in a great location. I haven't changed my mind about staying here.

We stopped here for 5 nights in a 39' motorhome, NO DINGHY. They accepted reservations via internet. Check-in & check-out was smooth. Very CLEAN and Staff were very cheerful & friendly. On the downside, luckily we didn't have a tow vehicle, because we would not have been able to park it at our site. Some sites were too small, even for the smallest of trailers to fit on the site. There is NO public transportation to get to Destin shopping. The walk would have been many miles round trip, no including a walk around the town. Finally, the gate of the entrance was always open & unsecured. Anybody could come & go as they pleased, without being stopped!!! Overall, very quiet & clean. They're working hard on the water park and it looks good.

Spent a couple of weeks here. We are full timers and this was our first visit to the area although we home base in north central Florida. Not crazy about the town of Destin. Just another FL tourist trap. Lot's of shopping here though. Has all the "big boxes". Park was very clean and staff very friendly and helpful. The downside is that the spaces are very tight to get into and very close together. Very little room to park a vehicle. Overall good experience but very cramped feeling.

This is an excellent facility with a great location and lots of amenities. The staff is very friendly and exceedingly helpful. This was our first visit to the Florida panhandle and we are recently retired/rookie RVers. The RV spaces are close together but we had no problem backing our 34' travel trailer in. There was enough space to put out our slides and awning but barely had enough space to keep the pick-up off the street. There is a new water park/pool currently under construction that will be a big plus to the facility. My wife and I took lots of day trips to check out the other Military Campgrounds from Pensacola to Panama Beach and the Destin Army Recreation Area was by far the best.
Oct -Nov 2011
This is a nice campground. I was expecting it to be very tight based on previous comments, but we had no problem with our 41' class A with 4 slides. We had #18 which might be a little larger than some, but there were other large class A's there. It was spotless. The office personnel were very nice & helpful. Prices have gone up & there is no weekly rate now. My only complaint was all the sand burrs! We have a small dog & she was always getting them in her paws. I tried to keep her mostly on the street, but even there you'd find some strays. They need to put in some sod. They're in the process of building a new pool so things along the bay were loud & messy. However, the view is nice from the bay, no RV spots there tho, & you can't get into the water there. It is close to the Destin beaches, with plenty of choices, including a Military one where there were hardly any people. It has great rest rooms, showers & pavilions. You do have to pay $3 for parking. I would definitely go there again.
Nov 1 - Feb 2012
Great place to stay. Will be staying for 3mths. Can walk and sit by the bay. Some think the sites are located too close to each other. This is true but it does not bother us. WiFi reception is limited from the rv spots and you have to go to the office or another building for the 'hot spot' We did not have too many problems. At the time I am posting this there are empty spots and they do not rotate like some other Florida campgrounds. Will be sure to come back if given the chance.
August 2011
We arrived with no reservations, only wanted to stay 3 nights and they could not accommodate us so we went to Eglin. We did not realize they accepted reservations. It looked like a nice facility, GREAT location. The only thing i didn't like was the sites were very very small and your neighbor is very very close. No pull through sites (if you are towing).
August 20 - 26, 2011
By far the best MWR site we've stayed at. No issues at all. I'd have given a 5 on Amenities/Facilities but the wifi is not very good. Not a complaint, just a fyi. I will return in Jan for a month hopefully. This MWR is very well kept and the workers are friendly and helpful. This location is perfect for all the attractions in Destin. We rented a pontoon boat and the people at the marina were so helpful and friendly. Don't miss this one. It's a great place.
June 18, 2011 to July 20, 2011
When we arrived the RV grassy areas had been neglected for the entire year, grass was 12" tall, RV laundry room was dirty, and some employees were less than friendly. Ft Benning MWR was notified and some corrective action was immediate. The Manager advised that he had intentions of remodelling the RV campground this coming winter with "pull throughs" and reducing the number of sites from 46 to about 23! He said he would ultimately would like to do away with the RV sites and build a "highrise" facility in it's place. The RV community should let Ft Benning MWR know what they want or don't want ASAP!

D.P. left this review using the Directory software: We really love it here. Lot's of things to do in the nearby areas. The facility has plans for some exciting upgrades in 2012.

J.K. left this review using the Directory software: Arrived here today for a one week stay. With one exception (more on that later), this has to be the finest military campground in the Florida Panhandle. Easy access to the resort, gated community with key card access, immaculate landscaping and maintenance, and a good combination of RV sites and motel type buildings. There is a nice pool within the resort and a water sports rental facility for everything from a kayak up to pontoon boats. The resort is sited right on the bay and there are picnic areas and Adirondack chairs in grassy areas right on the water. All of the RV sites are paved and level and include a patio with picnic table and charcoal grill. The utility poles are well placed and easy to access and include CATV at each FHU site. The entire RV area is well lighted, but not obtrusive. I saw WIFI antennas located around the area, but I don't know how well they work. I use a Verizon MIFI card and reception here is excellent! Same for Verizon cellular service. Now for the one exception that keeps me from giving this CG a perfect score...the RV sites are small and really packed tightly together. I have a 30' Fifth Wheel and it takes up the entire pad from the fence in the back to the street in front. I have to squeeze my truck into the space alongside my camper, open the door, and walk around the back of the camper to get to the door. I can't open the awning...there's not enough room between my camper and the slide out of the folks next to me. Supposedly this resort is Big Rig Friendly, but you better be REALLY friendly with your neighbors. There are a few longer Motorhomes here, but no place to park a TOAD on your site. There is limited additional parking within the RV area. I'm not complaining though...you're in a great military campground at a really reasonable rate, close to some beautiful beaches in a high priced resort area, and served by a staff that goes out of it's way to make sure you have the best stay possible!
1 -15 May 2011
Outstanding! The only reason I gave it a 4 on amenities is due to the small size of the sites, but keeping everything in perspective, it's a great place.I did notice the water pressure was a bit lower than we're used to. Very clean with just about all you need for a great vacation. I had my own internet (MiFi) but others had to go to the bathhouse/laundry area to connect. A friend advised me about size limit on dogs, but I found no issue. Dogs of all sizes were present and everyone seemed to be respectful and cleaned up. They have posts with bags and trash cans that make it easy and convenient. The new office is open, but they still have some work to do to finish up the remodeling. I was able to extend my stay a few days with no problems. Awesome sunsets over the bay!
