It was a very nice campground, friendly staff, free firewood and ice. Full hook-ups at each site to include cable TV. There is a nice hiking trail starting near the campsite. The campground seemed to be about 50% long term residents and is very well maintained. There are washers and dryers for 1 dollar per each load. There are two shower facilities and bathrooms, the lower shower is ok while the upper shower house has excellent water pressure! The base has a nearby dinning facility and a small PX, post office and Subway about 1 mile from campsites. Camp Atterbury is also host to a correctional facility. The base has a nice static display of vehicles but must be accessed from outside the main gate. The campground seemed to be about 50% long term residents and is very well maintained with a nearby pool. August 20122 of 2 people found the following review helpful
Great place to stay. There are a number of long term out of state National Guard staying at the park while training but they leave plenty of pull through sites for the rest of us. The price is right and the camp host is outstanding. This is a great location for visiting Columbus, IN and Brown County. I arrived from the south and left by the east road (252). I had no problems using 252 with a 40ft coach. Just do not get in a hurry. I appreciated the additional on base directions from a previous reviewer. Those should be in the campground directions. A.C. left this review using the Directory software: - This is a great place to visit. The hosts are very friendly. Laundry is $1.00 to wash and $1.00 to dry. Nice level sites. Aug 16-22, 20122 of 2 people found the following review helpful
Another great campground opportunity. The bathrooms were very clean. The laundry was affordable at $1 per load. Full hook-ups including cable available on each site. Everyone was friendly. Our only issue is the heavy smoke smell in the office and day room. Be sure to visit the museum about the camp's history (across from main gate in the welcome center). Better to use exit 76B, go about 4 miles then turn left when you see the arrow for the Camp. Ignore your GPS if it mentions taking a U-turn. Several restaurants and outlet shopping at the interstate exit. In addition, Walmart, Kroger and numerous restaurants are about 10-15 miles north on Hwy 31. Consider hidden jewel! Full hookups, great town for shopping, base facilities, super clean restrooms. Awesome. Only downside was smoking in office/lounge areas. Definitely return. Really 5-star. May 29, 20122 of 2 people found the following review helpful
A nice, very well-maintained campground. Large spaces and easy to park with most spaces being pull-thrus. The staff are very hard working and friendly. If you visit; take my advice and exit 76B off I-65 onto US 31 North. Follow it for about four miles and there are signs to Camp Atterbury (left turn onto County Road 800). Stay on CR 800 for about 2.5 miles; gate will be on the left. Once thru the gate, go about one mile and turn left onto 5th Street (you should see the swimming pool down 5th Street. It ends at the camp ground entrance. This saves you going thru Edinburgh and making many turns to stay on IN 252. My GPS had me bypassing the left turn at CR 800 and making a U-turn. It is a cross-road at US 31 and IN 252/CR 800. The only bad thing for us was the free firewood. Our neighbor enjoyed the smoke and kept a fire going all day long. The newly found campground was exceptional.. Very clean, large camp sites,,wi-fi and a pool nearby. friendly staff, the base is immaculate and a pool is there as well as a gym. The bathroom and showers at campground are very clean. Would recommend to all. Great place. We'd come back. May 19-25, 20111 of 1 people found the following review helpful
Follow the directions on this site (although the car lots mentioned are gone.) Our GPS has us traipsing all over the countryside! This is a training camp, so heard lots of artillery and small arms fire. Nothing close by, but audible. The campground has a fishing pond, laundry facilities, group meeting area. Sites are gravel, each has a picnic table and fire pit. Everything is well maintained. Camp host was friendly and helpful. There's lots of day trips in the area: Indianapolis Motor Speedway, of course, plus museums, zoo, lots of caves and distillery tours. The Louisville Slugger Factory Tour is a pleasant day trip. We definitely recommend a visit to the Ripkey Armor Museum in Crawfordsville, IN. It's an impressive private collection of refurbished tanks, planes, etc. 13 & 24 October 20102 of 2 people found the following review helpful
We "stumbled" upon this facility looking for a one-night stopover on our way to Nashville to visit family. WHAT A FIND! Definitely a Five-Star. We agree with the comment about not taking Exit 80 off I-65, but it's not too bad. Our GPS got a little stupid when arriving at US-31. But if Exit 80 is taken, just continue across US-31 and that will put you onto Hospital Road. When approaching along US-31 from north or south, there is good signage to Camp Atterbury. All previous comments are right on. Of course we couldn't take advantage of the pool, but hope to be there for a few days next summer. Very nice campground. A bit far from Indianapolis but we had business in Greenwood. Nancy and her staff keep a nice campground! The laundry was nice and well keep and reasonable. Did not use the bathhouse so I can't comment. We had a nice time and for the price we would go back. Thanks Nancy!! 24 June to July 1, 20102 of 2 people found the following review helpful
The camp host and her 3 asst. host do a great job on keeping this camp clean and safe. The pool is across the street from the camp entrance, the all ranks club is at the next block, and the library is in that parking lot. Across the street will be the chapel and gym. The USO or Post day room is a short walk from the chapel. The PX is the only long walk we found (15 min.) from camp. Across from the PX was a Subway. The PX is actually a shoppette so it is limited on what it carries. We did not tow as this was a short trip from home, less then 200 mile, so we walked to everything. There is a nice nature trail behind the camp and a jogging track and a wooded fitness trail (PAR COURSE) near the PX. Be advised that most places do not have public restrooms there are porta potties along major streets and in parking lots. We had a great week with Nancy and her team and even got some help and advice on some problems we were having with the MH. NANCY! we will be back. I've noticed no ratings since Oct '09, and I know a lot of people have stayed there since, so, in the interest of good relations, I am glad to endorse this campground as one of my favorites. Memorial day weekend was great there, and it turned out to be my last hope to spend the weekend camping..... Nancy and all the staff are excellent hosts, and made us all feel very welcome. Facilities are top notch and extremely well maintained... On Memorial Day, they hosted a pitch-in luncheon which was excellent... Lots are big and all are RV friendly. The only detractor is that, they are located inside the post so you have to contend with Security upon entering the facility, but that really isn't that difficult..... Nancy and Staff, keep up the excellent work, and I will be back soon...... 6 to 7 October 20092 of 2 people found the following review helpful
I totally agree with all positive ratings. Just a word to call ahead because military activity is at a high tempo and many TDY folks are using the CG. Call ahead and let them know you are panning to be there. Sept 10 - 17, 20092 of 2 people found the following review helpful
Excellent does not begin to describe this campground. From the minute you enter the campground you know that it is going to be a great place. The greeting by the host is "top notch", and the appearance of the campground is excellent. Sites are gravel and level both side-to-side as well as front to back. Nice long pull-thru for even the largest rigs, great large patio with picnic table, fire pit and free fire wood. Directions are right on the "money". Don't use exit 80 from I-65 as that takes you thru Edinburgh on a very narrow SR 252, with numerous turns. Reservations are recommended as the base is very active with training activities. Unfortunately there is no commissary and a "very limited exchange". This is developing into a top 2% military campground. July 17-24, 20092 of 2 people found the following review helpful
This has to be one of the top campgrounds we have been to. Nice place, nice people, felt good to be back on a post. Some of the BEST BBQ within 500 mi. just down the road on 31. CALL ahead they could well be full! And if you are going to get there early in the am call the day before to see if your site will be open. Please do not tap on the host door at 7:30 to see if it's ok - "she told me to say that". Hope to get back there soon. 14-15 June 20090 of 0 people found the following review helpful
As soon as we arrived we wished we could have stayed longer. We were met by the most gracious hosts of any military campground we've stayed at, and were directed to our site, which was a large, long pull through with a huge gravel patio, picnic table, fire pit and free firewood. The park is immaculate and easy to find. The hookups are all in the right spot and the 50 AMP power is about as perfect as you'll find. The hosts keep this park clean, and you'll never find the trash cans full. Finally, campground hosts that actually do work for what they receive. We'll come back here just to enjoy the pretty lake, the hospitality and the convenience. Do call first for availability. This base does a lot of training, and the sites can fill up quickly with active duty on training. We called a week in advance and had no problem making reservations. The camp host/hostess was excellent - above reproach – she met us at our campsite upon arrival with a warm welcome. An added touch of class was the Memorial day weekend potluck which really made me reflect back on my days of being a 70’s solder as it pertains to team. The camp host family made everyone feel like a member of the family. The sites are level and spacious, with a large picnic table, grill and fire pit and firewood. This is a great family environment with a fishing pond on-site, the post pool only a block away, a large and very comfortable day room with kitchen and dining facility, with high-speed DSL internet connection and movies for the family. This is a model famcamp – one that other facility should try to emulate. The family and I cannot wait to return. Aug.29-Sep.1, 20080 of 0 people found the following review helpful
The hosts were awesome! The new shower/laundry/rec room is excellent. The layout of the CG is good and sites are level, and utilities well placed. The kids had fun at the free pool (just outside the CG gate), and this was a great stay for the few nights we needed to catch our breath and catch up on "housekeeping." Loved the pot-luck BBQ, and free fire wood. Would definitely stay again. 12-13 September 20080 of 0 people found the following review helpful
This was an overnight stop. I agree with previous reviews. Hosts are friendly and helpful making our quick overnight a very pleasant experience. There is one item that surfaced during our stay that needs to be watched. It appears that people are starting to homestead here. The pull through sites are large and well kept. |
