We stayed at Shields FamCamp Mar 2/3 after stopping by nearby Keesler AFB. Keesler has no facilities, is off base, and hard to find. Shields is easy to locate, has nice, wide cement pads, nice laundry. We were able to bike to the BX/Commissary facility and use the beauty salon, who accommodated us by bringing in a hairdresser a half hour before opening. We did not use the fitness center which is also nearby. We rode our bikes to the Gulfport beach area, about one and one-half miles away. Beautiful area that appears to have lots of recent improvements and historical markers. Wifi was spotty, probably due to the time of day when most users are on line.

W.P. left this review using the Directory software: - This is a very nice and clean RV park. Our stay was for a week in mid-April 2013. The only problem was my motor home sticker had expired and we were told to park in the parking lot next door and register the motorhome. The sticker on the van was still good. The parking lot was designed for cars and not for motorhomes and especially towing. Luckily a couple of cars were pulling out as we entered so I blocked part of the drive and 4 parking places. I am not critical of the security requirement of registering, but of the parking not designed for RV’s. Fort Jackson in our home area and where our vehicles are located has closed the registration office and no longer requires post registration. This is the reason my motor home sticker had expired.

Only stayed one night, but will come back for a longer stay next time. Campground is very clean with very level pads. Nice small base with very thing you would need. Exchange / Gas Station / Commissary close by for all your needs. They have wifi by it is gowifi, which has limits. The only strange thing about the campground is that they will not talk to you in the office until you show an ID card even tho you have showed your ID when coming on base about 5 minutes before. Also the wife and I went over to the office to get bathroom codes and they would not talk to me without my wife showing her ID card and I had just checked in 10 minute before. Overall a great place to stay and we will be back.

Modest campground. Very good facilities - very clean, good water pressure, cable, level concrete pads, etc. Were not bothered by noise from music or train whistle, just from traffic from road next to campground - motorcyclist continually gunned motor each time he/she went by, which was often. Other than that small annoyance - no noise problem. Probably won't have heard him/her if windows were shut. We were lucky and got a pull thru near the office. Easy check in at RV office but lengthy amount of time to get "visitor" pass. Gate guard didn't see joint base sticker on coach so he sent us to get visitors pass, which we found out later that we didn't need. Staff was courteous and efficient. Commissary is a decent size and had most of what we needed. Subway right next door when you don't feel like cooking. Great place for the price. Will come back again when in this area.

P.C. left this review using the Directory software: - The facilities are nice - nothing fancy but much more than just adequate. Web site says weekly rate is $100 but we were charged $120 and $120 is posted in the office. Spaces are large; power is good; our water pressure was fine; campground is extremely clean and well kept. Staff is very friendly and helpful. Commissary and BX are good - we never felt the need to go to the AFB for shopping. WiFi is only OK - tends to go in and out fairly frequently. We won't return for 1 reason: planes, trains and automobiles - you get noise from all of them. It's not the CG fault of course, but this is the noisiest place we have ever stayed. Trains with loud whistles 24/7; heavy truck traffic on an adjacent road; sirens day and night; most irritating - a local off base "recreation center" next door to the Pass Road gate plays music and literally ear shattering levels several times a week. Since it's only a few hundred yards from the CG you get full "benefit" of their music selections. A shame since otherwise this would be a really good place to stay.

Easy to find and convenient to I-10. Easy check-in and Shirley at office was very pleasant. No hassle getting in gate as we already have a base sticker. Nice to have commissary and exchange close by on base. All sites for short term stays are back in while the long term stay folks get the pull throughs. Go figure. Lots of road noise close by as well as seemingly non-stop trains with whistles blaring even at 6:00 AM on Sunday morning. Surprised no one mentioned that in their reviews. My site (9) had very low water pressure. This is not somewhere I would chose for a destination but it's certainly more than okay for a few days stay. Bathrooms were not heated even though it was in the 40's overnight during our stay. Wifi worked great and was easy to connect to. Small, clean laundry and only .75 for washers and dryers.

This is a very clean, well maintained facility, sites are spacious and it is a great location. Now taking long, very long term reservations which means for those who travel and move a lot it will become unusable since it will be full of long term stays. For example you can stay six months, leave 30 days, come back for six months so in essence it is now a "permanent residence" campground and will have very few sites for travelers. Good for those who just move a few times each year or need to live in the area; not very good at all for those like us who move around a lot across the country. The online reservation service is still not active so call if you need a new home site. Rates are reasonable for long term stays. Personally hate long term stay camps but others like to live in a place; if that fits you this is a great place. Some number of sites seem to be reserved for short term stays so tempered a bit. The dog park a few miles from the RV park is great place for your canine friend to burn off energy; large with high fence.

We visited on 29 Sept. and spent the night. Had no problems getting in the gate. We were here once before so finding it was no problem and the directions are very good. The day we arrived they had just started their new reservation program. They had a few problems getting us in the computer but after a few try's we were in. New Wifi system, no one explained how it worked till the next day when we were leaving and it still didn't work for me. I have Verizon computer service and that worked great. All in all we like this site and now they take reservations it is even better. We were also told their was a 6 month limit on stays now. There were people staying longer but you would never guess witch ones because the camp is so clean.

A great famcamp. The staff is courteous and helpful. The laundry facilities are clean and fairly priced. The area next to the road in the back of the park (sites 60 plus) a have quite a bit of road noise. However with the a/c running it is not to bad. Have your vehicle registration, insurance papers and ID ready to check in at the Pass office. It make base access a lot easier. A great experience either short or long term. Reservations should help quite a bit.

Still a great rv park. Clean, well maintained grounds and facilities. Now take reservations online, 800#, or by calling park office. WiFi, laundry, cable are great. Close to Keesler AFB and its exchange and commissary. On base exchange and commissary are smaller but have all the basics. New gas station/minimart are being built, but old facility is fine. Just a real nice park.

We are new to this world of RVing, so please forgive the mistakes. We had a wonderful stay at Shields, we really hated to have to leave, but had to go home to Chapin, SC. The staff was just wonderful, always helpful and ready to keep everyone on the straight and narrow, they run a clean, quite, and ultra modern park. The Navy base has everything you and the air base is just down the road. Don't arrive after hours on a Friday-- getting on base is a real hassle, it took us over 90 min to get a 24 hour pass and we had to come back the next day and do the same thing again. We went to the on base vehicle registration and registered our vehicle as if we lived there. I think that was a bit much. But I would do it all again. Loved this campground. Bob was great!

We spent two days at this park. We enjoyed our stay and talked to other guests. Most people were there for the Casino's. There were some "Homesteaders" and even with 64 spots they say in the winter it fills up with "Snow Birds." But you can't tell the long stay sites unless you look real close for wheel covers and heat strips on the water lines. We know these long term guests help pay bills year round. There are a lot of sites marked "short term" So I'd hope they go by the rules. The park is new, it was the mobile home park, it is just inside the gate and about two miles from the BX ,Commissary and everything else. No tree's or shade but they are planting tree's. Maybe in a few years there will be some shade. Bath house was nice and clean except for mildew on shower curtains. The golf course has been cut down to three holes, a dog park and trails added. A few places to eat on post but a lot of places right off post. It isn't a long drive to nice beaches and you have Keesler AFB right down the road. I'd say this is a good choice.

This is one of the cleanest camp sites my husband and I have ever visited. The office staff, Diane and Verna will go out of their way to help make sure your visit is enjoyable. The laundry facilities are spotless as are the bathrooms. Each site has it's own concrete level pad and there is plenty of space between sites. The base is quite big and has a nice commissary, NEX, thrift shop and gas station. It is a 3 minute drive to the beaches, twenty minutes to the casinos. We stayed in a short term space but you would be wrong if you thought we will be trying for a long term space next year. A+

Just a great little park. Newer than most parks. The sites are very large with lots of space in between rigs. Great amenities. Great staff who go out of their way to accommodate guests. .75 to wash/dry. Free wifi, nice cable tv channel selection. A few homesteaders, but mostly snowbirds or full-timers. Plenty of shopping, nice exchange and commissary on base, but bigger facilities at Keesler AFB just 12 miles east. This is a gem of a park. Will definitely stay here again.

You can't call this campground a famcamp or a recreation center when you allow dod civilians to stay there for 7 or 8 years running......should be called dod housing area!

The famcamp is a nice facility and the staff is very friendly. However, we were traveling with a non-military (but retired govt) couple and to get them on post was a little bit of a chore. So if you travel with non-military be sure that you have everything you need (insurance cards, registration, length of stay, etc) for however long you are staying so you don't run into problems like we did. Getting on base is not as user friendly as Corpus Christi NAS or other military bases or posts that we have been too.

This FamCamp has been completely upgraded and is very clean. We stayed for three nights and found the only draw-back is the sounds of trains nearby during the nighttime. The spaces are level, concrete pads but there is asphalt at both ends of the concrete pads and we were warned to make sure our jacks only come down onto the concrete pads otherwise they may punch thru the asphalt. The sites are very good sized and there is plenty of room between sites. Office personnel are very friendly and go out of their way to make sure you are able to get into your site. This base is very easy to locate by following Pass Rd to the west which runs directly into the entrance gate of the base. We were very lucky to get a site this time of year. We were traveling with another couple and we were able to obtain the last two sites available before the campground was full. We will certainly stay here again in the future.
