May 2013
This was our first experience at a Fam Camp. It was a good choice. I arrived late and found the site that was reserved for us. Clean, quiet, and well groomed. We are scheduled at several other camps this summer, hope they measure up.
Feb. 2013
We have stayed in this part several times over the past few years. We always look forward to our stay at Ft. Sam. The staff is very pleasant and helpful. Baker is wonderful. The facility is clean and well-maintained. A lot of construction going on throughout the base. We plan on staying again for a week or two this summer.
March - May 2013
Baker, the camp manager, was an outstanding help in every aspect from arrival directions to checking out. We left for seven days as required after we had been here for 30. The spots are mostly level and all concrete and pavement. Some shade trees are scattered around. There is a nice dog run and two very well maintained bath houses. Nice playground for the kids to use! Although this is only the second military campground we have stayed at, I think this is top notch! To update a previous reviewers comments about bad roads: yes the roads all over San Antonio are horrible! However, the section of road between I-410 and the base, which is Harry Wurzbach, is now complete. We first arrived in March when the road was horrible and I was shocked that this was the preferred route. When we came back in April, the redone road was the best drive in the city! To avoid all the roads, if you arrive during duty hours between Monday and Friday, you can come in the road right next to the FamCamp which would be the BAMC hospital exit off I-35.

We have stayed here a number of times and have always had a great experience. The golf course is very close and the BX and Commissary are top notch. The slots are wide and paved. A very good place to stay.
January 2013
Great campground. Will stay again. Only fault was it was very difficult to find. The construction in the area was terrible. When visiting this area there is a lot of history and good restaurants.
14-21 Feb 2013
We just really really enjoy this place, great staff, super clean bathrooms, great laundry machines and priced right. Site was perfect. Only thing that was bad was the no WIFI at the park. I did go up on post and used the wifi at the mini mall...3.50 per hr to get online. That really was a let down. Someday the road construction will be finished on Ritiman road. We used the Holbrook gate off petroleum drive...it does close at 2200 and weekends and holidays, so we arrived on a Thursday.

The RV Park is great, staff is friendly enough and facilities are nice. The only down side is the route in. Per direction you take the exit off of I-35 and travel Rittman Road for 2 miles. The road is under full construction, down to 2 lanes that are so narrow that we clipped mirrors on a passing truck. The construction area is extremely rough and we actually thought it would shake our rig apart. I would suggest that you take a longer route to I-410 and Harry Warzbauch and travel South on HW to the entry as stated in the directions.

We stayed here in a large 5th wheel. Great facilities in a great location at a great price. The only detraction is that access roads getting onto the base are narrow and it is easy to scrape up your coach (tree limbs) if you aren't careful.
December 16-19, 2012
Great staff. The campgrounds are clean with nice trees here and there. Our site was convenient to the restrooms and laundry. Both were clean and warm, while cold outside! Water pressure was great, concrete pad was even clean and clear of debris. No fire pit, but they did have a BBQ grill. During the holidays a lot of the rigs had their Christmas lights up and or decorations on their site. Made for wonderful evening walks! The library in the office was wonderful, but the coffee was terrible :)

Just stayed here in a 37 Ft motorhome with a Jeep toad. The grounds and facilities are well cared for, and the staff is excellent. I thought the staff a little rough when we were en route and spoke to them over the phone, but they immediately warmed upon meeting them face to face. This was understandable, as standing and speaking with them for any amount of time is a task in pausing the conversation so they can answer the ever ringing phone, or to answer a question from a park resident. They never hesitate to help and often gave us the local gems to try out. Joe, Baker and the hosts Steve and Bryant are great! The park is excellent and would be at $100 more a month. For those that are considering this park, I would absolutely recommend setting a reservation. The first day we were here the ladies up front indicated that they had not had an open spot in a month! Additionally, don't plan on staying for more than 30 days. They strictly enforce the 30 day stay limit, and require you to leave the park for 7! days before returning. I thought this a little excessive, especially for the Active Duty folks, but it really shows in the parks appearance. I didn't see any roots growing from the trailers and coaches! This park has no cable or WIFI at this time. They say they are trying, but I don't believe this will ever happen. With the costs involved and the militaries steadily shrinking budgets, we should be glad to have these amenities at all. The installation's infrastructure is HORRIBLE!! The roads are trashed, just getting the coach in was extreme. Additionally, if you intend to use the Winans Gate ensure you arrive prior to 2200, as it closes nightly. Also, DO NOT attempt to arrive during rush hour 1500-1800, it may take you 2 hours just to get from I35 to the gate! Also at this time Rittiman and Harry Wurzbach streets are under major construction. If you have a wide body coach, a weekend approach may be the best for you, as the weekday traffic is insane and they don't give an inch, even to a 40k pound motor home. Finally, Ft Sam is a training base with fresh Soldiers and Airman learning medicine. This is to be read as a warning to keep on your toes while driving the base. The little guys are everywhere and where this stuff called Camo that makes them hard to see. Would whole heartedly recommend this camp for future stays!

G.G. left this review using the Directory software: - We will be stopping at Ft Sam again on our way to our Winter home in Mission. We have spent MANY nights/months there over the past 10 years and have never had anything but a great experience. The staff and hosts always go beyond your expectations to make your stop enjoyable. The only draw back is the over all condition of the streets/roads on the base proper. I have never attempted to traverse them with my unit. By coming in the back gate and dropping the unit at the site I have never had a problem. We must understand the priorities. As a retired E-7 (USAF) I prefer to build housing for the kids who are our future rather than trim a tree for a million dollar motor home!. Old Sarge 38

Nice campground, could upgrade with WIFI.....the trip into the base was a pain in the rear because of all the construction, and yes you get used to the trains at night time blowing there horns. But overall was a nice visit, very close to downtown....Alamo, and the Riverwalk. All the military facilities were close by and not hard to find.
Jul 28 - Aug 5, 2012
We have stayed here multiple times and never fail to enjoy the experience. A very good central location to see San Antonio and the staff have always been accommodating. They are working on many of the base infrastructures, so there is construction, but the end results will be worth today's inconvenience. Will be returning next month for another 2½ weeks.
July 2012
Very well maintained and staffed. Clean showers, restrooms and laundry. Lots of construction on the facility (roads, etc.) but directions to the RV park are well-posted once you get on the military facility. Expect to hear the train fairly regularly, but can be tolerated considering the location and other amenities.
May 6 - 15, 2012
This is a beautiful park. Base is undergoing lots of road construction and it has been hard to get around base. Staff has been friendly, we were planning on 5 days and had mechanical problem with coach and ended up staying longer; staff was great accomadating us for longer stay and referring us assistance with finding parts to fix our slide. Nice level cement pads and laundry on each side of ca mp. If you have medical problems (surgery) VA does lots of back surgery. Location is close to downtown area and 2 golf courses on base.
1 -30 March 2012
Getting to the park is an exercise in pothole and maintenance cone avoidance, but once on the post the roads, while bumpy, are fairly well maintained. The park itself is extremely well maintained; level concrete pull-through sites and large patio with table and grill, convenient hookups, and lots of room. Propane is available M-F and there are a few RV items in the store. There is no park WiFi or cable, but you're in the middle of a metropolitan area so there is plenty of broadcast TV, and our Verizon data card was on 4G during our stay. If you have mail forwarded, be prepared to navigate a maze of warehouses and loading docks to find the mail room - we opted for the main post office instead. It's one of the best parks in the military, but what makes it less desirable for us is the the train noise. Be prepared for all day, all night trains loudly sounding their horns as they pass within 1/2 mile of the park.

My wife and I would like to express our appreciation to Baker and the camp host, Jim, for making our first camping experience at a military camp grounds, nothing short of fantastic. We truly have no complaints about any aspect of our stay and will definitely be returning in the future.
25 Feb 12
This is a beautiful park in the middle of a construction site. There is NO good road into the park. Once you get to the park, things could not be better. Jim, the park host, met us after the office was closed, and showed us to our site. The sites are concrete with plenty of room on both sides for slides. There is plenty of room to walk your dogs, and the free run is pretty good sized and is well kept up. We are planning on staying here again in the near future, just to spend time in San Antonio. If you are coming here, there are two things you must do: 1. Call for reservations. 2. GET GOOD DIRECTIONS ONTO POST AND TO THE RV PARK. It seems that all of the gates onto post are under construction, and there is construction all over post, so be prepared for a BUMPY ride into the park. We stayed in a 5th wheel.

J.H. left this review using the Directory software: - A real FamCamp. Facilities are very good plus plenty of space between rigs. We'll come again if we're out this way.
Dec 1 - 31, 2011
Stayed for the month. Convenient location to downtown. Great rv park. No wifi. Lots of room between sites. Laundry is .75 to wash and dry. Nice restrooms and showers. Office is organized and also sells a few rv necessities. Roads on base are awful. Lots of construction, but not on the roads. Nice exchange and commissary. Will return if in the area.
